I'm not a big AC fan. I prefer having the windows open and the fans blowing. However, when it's over 80 degrees and humid, I put the AC on.

I prefer the windows open too myself when it's cool enough. But for most of the summer I have to have the AC on. My body does not sweat properly to cool itself down (an inherited condition), so I get heatsick frequently (feeling very overheated, headaches, nausea, fatigue, etc.) without it.

AC isn't a choice here, it's a requirement. Days below 90 for highs and 70 for lows are few and far between May and September.
Whenever it is cool enough however, I do love to have the windows open. Unfortunately it's not often this time of year.

I agree totally! You and I live pretty close to each other, so we both understand the awful heat and humidity around here. It wouldn't feel nearly as hot if it weren't for the humidity!!

I couldn't live without AC. I'd go insane without it. I try to stay indoors during a heatwave.

In Seattle, air conditioning is a rarity. It would be nice to have it right now, but we have ceiling fans in every room of our house, and that is just fine for the most part. Normally there are only about 10 days out of the year where the heat is just unbearable. So it's not really worth it to pay the money for air conditioning around here.

I live in the UK and most houses over here don't have air conditioning. Although Britain can get very hot, it's weather is generally not as warm as the weather the States gets in the summer.
I've been to the US a lot though. I like having windows open but I like having air conditioning too. When I'm in a car in the US I prefer having the air conditioning on than opening the windows because I like to listen to the radio and with the windows open, the sound of the wind and traffic makes it harder for me to hear the music.

AC... it's 100 degrees here today, and about 80 degrees in our house... ergo, it's really not a choice here.

If it's really hot I'll have the AC on. If it's not too hot I just open a couple of windows or put the fan on.

Depends...I have seasonal allergies and having the windows closed as much as possible this time of year helps. On the other hand, at work, they crank up the AC WAY too high. I come in every day wearing layers, and it's the middle of July!!

I love having the AC on.. Especially I enjoy the AC being on during the summer when its very hot outside and hot inside. I also use the fan on inside the house when its hot too.

It's like that up here too. Though not lately. Today it barely got to 70; I'm wearing long sleeves!

Air-conditioning, for sure! All a fan does is blow around the hot air, in my opinion. I love it nice and cool and crisp when it's hot & humid.

i'm in favour of it. summertime-wise, without air conditioning, i'd probably experience heat exhaustion, become more sweaty and more agitated.

Allergies was one of the main reasons we got air conditioning in our church, as well.

Me too!! I don't have air conditioning and have to open windows plus have the fan going.
I am for AC. When I am hot, I need to cool down quickly. However, I can also
understand how some people don't like it because some places crank it too
high.
I live on the top floor of a small 5 story apartment building here in NYC. During the summer the sun beats down on the flat roof and my apartment is like an oven. We try to circulate the air with fans and one of those window exhaust fans, but it's always hot. This past week it's been very hot and humid, so I have my little A/C unit on in my room at night. I can't sleep in hot weather.
OH Nuts!

I LOVE AC. How I ever lived w/o it until I got it I'll never know. But I try to use it as little as possible. I turn it on when I come home from work and when I enter my apartment its like an oven. But I only turn it up enough to just be comfortable. At night though, I just sleep with a fan by my bed. But like TJL said, some summer days/nights in NYC can be quite hot & the poor circulation in my apt. doesn't help.

Like Beautiful Dreamer said the AC is a necessity here. Especially today when the temperature is supposed to hit 108.
AC is a must here. With highs usually in the upper 80s-low 90s from April(a lot)-late September and humidity through the ceiling, I think it would be a health hazard without AC in SC.

I think the AC is a must in all states, well, I don't know how hot it gets in Hawaii or Alaska.

Yeah, same here. I'd rather have a cool day and windows open then a hot day and an AC.

I think I would love to live out on the west coast- mainly in AZ, Phoenix or Tuscin or h/e you spell it. They have the "dry heat" their, and people say it's perfect and a great place to live for people with horrible allergies, like myself for example....The humidity is unbearable, and while the air here is nice, it affects me greatly..
Ah, so you wanna be scortched by 110 degree heat? Do you burn easily. Kyle?
I just went to visit my grandmother in the central valley a few days ago, and it got to 108 there, that we saw anyways. In that dry heat like that, traveling home, or standing outside for any length of time .. it was like I couldn't breathe... But I guess you aren't breathin too well with the allergies anyway huh? I'm sorry, I really hope you feel better!

I've never had it in my house- not necessary to have when you live in Seattle.

I like open window anyday...unless it becomes 90+ Degrees.
But that only happened once this year so far where I live.
