Resident Evil 4 Arriving in Late 2010?
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
July 1, 2009

In spite of what any of the talent involved in Resident Evil: Extinction told us during the press tour (mostly, "this is the final chapter"), the film left the door wide - and we mean WIDE open - for a fourth installment.

Late last year, Paul W.S. Anderson revealed he was indeed writing another film. Capcom was getting involved. Everyone, as he said, was "excited." Well, we've just learned from a studio insider that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil: Afterlife into theaters by September 17, 2010. That's according to an internal memo circulating through the offices there.

Will Anderson direct? Unsure. Will Milla Jovovich be back? I think it would be safe to say yes considering the last entry ended on - SPOILER ALERT - Alice clones getting ready to seek revenge on the Umbrella Corporation which was holed up in Tokyo.

Bunk? Truth? We're trying to get to the bottom of this. More info as it comes in!

Jovovich: Resident Evil 4 Shooting By End of '09
Source: HT
July 2, 2009

Kudos to reader 'HT' for catching this! In a paparazzi video featuring Milla Jovovich out on the town, the actress says, "We're going to start shooting at the end of the year." When asked what she merely replies, "Number four!" implying the next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise.

Sony would need to begin lensing on Resident Evil: Afterlife if they hope to make the September 17, 2010 release date we announced yesterday.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Begins Lensing in September
Thursday, July 16, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth pic in the game-to-film franchise, is slated to go behind cameras for an 8 week shoot September 28th at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto, writes Production Weekly.

The studio has plopped the film on their release calendars for September 17, 2010.

No word on who will be returning just yet, but the plot is said to take us to Tokyo for more Umbrella Corporation zombie mayhem.

Let's hope they kick it up a notch from the previous film and it's over use of CG (man, the explosions looked like crap).

Paul W.S. Anderson Return to Direct Resident Evil: Afterlife
Thursday, July 23, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

Typically I'd be excited to hear that the original director of a franchise is returning for more fun, but not in this case.

Production Weekly broke the news exclusively this morning that Paul W.S. Anderson will get behind the directors chair to once again bring Alice back to the big screen in Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife.

The video game adaptation that is said to head to Tokyo is scheduled to begin an 8 week shoot September 28th at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto.

Casting as it comes in.

Not really. The people in the movie have the same names as the games' characters but these are not the same people. The movies and the games are in totally different worlds.

I'm wondering on who will be returning. I think Ali Larter will probably come back and it sucks that they killed off Oded Fehr.

You should check out Resident Evil: Degeneration. Short time ago Capcom released a straight-to-DVD movie that's all CGI. That relates more to the games. However, it's only for the fans of the games.

Milla Jovovich Talks About Her STARRING Role in Resident Evil 4
Saturday, August 1, 2009
By: Jeff Otto

Bloody-Disgusting spoke to action heroine Milla Jovovich this morning at the press day for A Perfect Getaway.

With the recent announcement of a September 2010 release date for Resident Evil: Afterlife, we asked Jovovich what’s in store for Alice in the fourth movie and what the 3-D will mean for the franchise. Not only does she break the news on her starring role, but she had a lot more to tell us!

"Does everything on me have to come out on Bloody-Disgusting?" Jovovich jokes of her regular appearances on BD. "I’m the lead role [again]," says Jovovich. "There’s the clones and it’s going to be a lot of work. I’m gonna be working every day for the next four months on this and it’s gonna be bigger than ever. It’s super-exciting."

As usual, the specifics of the plot are under wraps for now, but Jovovich tiptoed around the details to tell us as much as she could. "I would feel a little bit weird giving you too much information about the character," she tells BD. "Let’s just say this. The clones are definitely in it. You’ve got multiple Alice’s kicking serious butt. And definitely the real Alice has some pretty major things happen to her that change the stakes a little bit. That’s probably all I can give you in a vague sort of way. It’s definitely going to be a different Alice than who we’re used to."

The same team that did the 3-D work on James Cameron’s AVATAR will be working on RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE. For now, Jovovich is leaving that intense prep work to her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who returns to direct part four. "I have no idea about the 3-D process," Jovovich says, laughing. "Paul just signed a deal with the people Cameron used on "AVATAR" because they impressed him the most. [Paul] has basically seen like every 3-D movie ever made in the last two months to prepare for it. We’re definitely using all the best equipment. All the storyboards are centered around how to make the 3-D the best it can be. We’re really trying to use that medium to its fullest."

In terms of whether this will be the final RESIDENT EVIL movie or if a part five will surface down the line, Jovovich says that’s up to the fans. "You know, it depends," she says. " "RESIDENT EVIL" is one of those things that is very much based on how well the last movie did. The last movie did very well, so of course the company wants to make another one. These films are very organic in that sense. It’s not like a "HARRY POTTER" machine in the sense that it’s already this huge thing and they make three movies at the same time. For us, we make one movie, we give it an interesting ending and if the fans are like, ‘We want to see what happened. We want to see the next one’ and the studio gets enough mail and there’s web site interest then we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s make another one.’"

As for returning to the role of Alice again and again, Jovovich says she if happy for the work and the chance to dip into the intense action scenes every few years. "You know what, every two years I get a steady job and as an actor [and] that’s a huge relief. Then I get to do all my little independent movies that no one sees. I get more versatile things for myself. And then, every couple years you get the "RESIDENT EVIL" to kick your butt and get you in shape and it’s fun and exciting."

We’ll have more from Jovovich on her role in A PERFECT GETAWAY from our exclusive interview next week.

Resident Evil Franchise Gets Quasi-Reboot with Begins
Monday, September 7, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

While Sony Screen Gems is prepping for Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, the 3D sequel slated to arrive in theaters August 27, 2010, Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively (and confirmed) that the studio is already looking forward to the fifth film.

While Milla Jovovich is confirmed for Afterlife, it's got to be getting expensive and (increasingly) difficult to keep her onboard, even though she is married to producer Paul W.S. Anderson.

Instead of moving forward with the ongoing story, the studio is planning a quasi-reboot, which is tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins. While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.

What do you guys think about a reboot only 8-9 years after the franchise began?

Boris Kodjoe Gives More Resident Evil: Afterlife Details
Source: Blackfilm.com
September 22, 2009

A few days ago, actor Boris Kodjoe let it slip via his Twitter page that he'd be appearing in Resident Evil: Afterlife, the latest sequel in the series once again starring Milla Jovavich with Paul W.S Anderson directing.

Blackfilm.com recently had a chat with Kodjoe while he was out promoting his latest movie, the Bruce Willis fronted Surrogates and gave a few more details about the latest movie in the franchise.

"I play the leader of the survivors in L.A.," Kodjoe says. "Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she's wound up in L.A., which has been burning for three years.

She comes across an L.A. jail surrounded be these half-dead zombies, and there's a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We’re trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety."

Although he served as a writer on all the sequels, this is the first time Paul W.S Anderson is stepping back behind the camera since the first Resident Evil.

We also know that Milla Jovavich is set to return as Alice, and this interview mentions that Heroes star Ali Larter will be also be back reprising her role as Claire Redfield.

New to the cast however is Prison Break's Wentworth Miller.

"He’s playing a guy that we actually locked up when we took over the jail because we weren’t sure if he was one of them or not," explains Kodjoe of Miller's character. "He comes into play as we try to find a way to get out with our survivors."

"We call the people in white 'pod people' here on set," she explains of the mysterious figures you can find in a hi-res image here. "They have been used as Umbrella 'test subjects' in horrifying experiments."

The actress also says her Alice costume is the best one yet. "This is super funny, I have this great gun harness made of leather and we incorporated a thing we found online called, get this, a 'butt bra'! I swear, you can probably find a pic of it if you Google 'butt bra'!" she laughs.

Valentine to Return in Resident Evil: Afterlife?
Source: Milla Jovovich
November 9, 2009

Paul W.S. Anderson promised fans a few familiar faces would definitely be returning for Resident Evil: Afterlife. Ali Larter has returned as Claire Redfield, then there is Spencer Locke's K-Mart.

From the video game series? Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) and Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts).

Well, how about Jill Valentine? That's right. Star Milla Jovovich dropped a Tweeter via her Twitter account earlier today that said: "Valentine MAY be back."

We haven't seen that character on the screen since Sienna Guillory played her in Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Insiders told me during Resident Evil: Extinction's production that Guillory didn't return over contract disputes. Is the actress back or have they re-cast Valentine? We'll see.

Jovovich also had something to say about Afterlife's undead today. "The zombie makeup is exceptionally good now, they're rocking it over at prosthetics. But depending on the zombie and what happens to them, sometimes they add stuff to them in post."

Resident Evil: Franchise Future & Fifth Installment
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
November 14, 2009

When director Paul W.S. Anderson announced over the summer that he was in pre-production on Resident Evil: Afterlife - the fourth chapter in the franchise starring Milla Jovovich - this site was the first to talk to him about his creative plans.

We not only learned he was going to shoot the sequel in 3-D, but the story was to begin a new story arc to carry on a new trilogy.

Reports elsewhere claimed it was going to "reboot" the series, but producer Jeremy Bolt doesn't think that's the right word to use. "Yes, we are hoping [we can get the new characters seen in "Afterlife" back], that would be a dream to have another three [films]," he said during this writer's recent visit to the Afterlife set.

"I'm glad [Paul] is talking like that. Either he'd have to direct them or we'll have to find directors on his level. It's tough. But I hope that we can make a few more and his creative brilliance is essential to that. Every time we do it so if it is the last one we're very proud of it, but if it does well enough obviously we'll do another one."

Resident Evil: Afterlife - co-starring Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts and Spencer Locke - wraps shooting in Toronto, Canada in December.

Screen Gems intends to release it August 27.

More Hints at Valentine in Resident Evil: Afterlife
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
November 20, 2009

This week, Shock Till You Drop spoke with producer Don Carmody about a number of projects he has in the pipeline including Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth film in Screen Gems' franchise.

Carmody co-produced the first entry, as well as Apocalypse. He had to bow out of Extinction for another obligation, but he's hopeful Afterlife will pave the way for a bright future with more Evil films.

"Part two made more than one, three made more than two and we're hoping four will make more than three," he said.

"It keeps the franchise strong. What we want to avoid is what's happening with the "Saw" franchise which is going the other way. We're hoping Paul being back in the driver's seat with 3-D and these big action set pieces will keep it going."

And since I've been pressing to find out more about this talk of the return of Jill Valentine (which Milla Jovovich spilled the beans about), I asked Carmody if he could comment.

"No," he chuckled, "it's going to be surprising and it's going to make people think what's going to happen next."

Sorry, Evil fiends. Looks like you'll have to wait until next August to find out.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is now being released in theaters on January 14, 2011. That's according to a release schedule we've received from Screen Gems.

The studio's fourth entry in the franchise is now in direct competition with MGM's The Cabin in the Woods, which was delayed from 2010 so it can be formatted for 3D.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Back to 2010?
Source: Shock Till You Drop
January 11, 2010

A few months back, we reported that Paul Anderson's Resident Evil: Afterlife was moved back to January 2011 in order to give the director more time for the computer process needed to release the movie in 3D.

At the time, actress Milla Jovovich, who has played Alice in all four movies, claimed on her Twitter feed that the release date change wasn't definite. The move also would have put the fourth installment up against MGM's own 3D horror flick Cabin in the Woods, forcing them to split digital 3D screens.

It looks like Anderson won't be needing that extra time for the FX and 3D after all, as ShockTillYouDrop has learned that things are back on track for Resident Evil: Afterlife to be released not on September 24 as originally slated, but two weeks earlier on September 10!

The September release will continue the "Resident Evil" tradition as both of the last two installments of the franchise were released in the month to solid success.

Shawn Roberts Talks Wesker in Resident Evil: Afterlife
Source: Ryan Rotten, Heather Newgen
January 27, 2010

Shock Till You Drop caught up to actor Shawn Roberts (Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead) at the red carpet premiere of Edge of Darkness to talk about his upcoming turn in Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the video game adaptation franchise.

"I play Albert Wesker who is head of the Umbrella Corporation who is responsible for the outbreak of the T-virus, or the Uroboros virus," he told us, hinting that this entry may be extracting elements from Resident Evil 5.

"It was nice to be in a position of sitting back playing with my puppets as they were. We finished in December and I guess right now it's just about making sure the technology gets into the screen so 3-D can happen."

Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and of course starring Milla Jovovich as Alice, Roberts says, "The storyline goes on its own [in terms of its faithfulness to the game]. We made sure we brought elements in. The wardrobe is very similar and as close as we could get it.

We have some fight scenes that are taken directly from the game. We're doing it for the fans so we want to do what makes them happy. The dogs come back. They're my pets which is cool."

"My character is such a favorite character in the games," he adds, "so I'm just like 'alright I don't want to piss anyone off.' You make it the best you can.

The key thing is that it was fun. I would walk onto set and not even have my wardrobe, but wardrobe comes over and they hand me my gloves and give me my jacket. It just sort of takes shape. I'm a fan and I'm not disappointed."
