I was thinking about this today and the only sitcom family I can think of with one kid is the Mitchells from Dennis The Menace.

There has to be more shows. Can anyone think of anymore?

I think these all apply:

Lucy and Ricky had one kid on I Love Lucy for awhile.
Greg and Kim had only Sammy for at least the first three seasons.
Christine and Richard have only Richie on Old Christine

Let's see ...

Steve Urkel - Family Matters
Hannah Rayburn - State of Grace
Opie Taylor - The Andy Griffith Show

It was also said that Norma Arnold from The Wonder Years was an only child, but (1) she was an adult, not a child like this thread suggests, and (2) I don't think we ever saw her parents--oh, I take that back! I think we saw them in the episode "Reunion" in which the Arnolds took that flight somewhere for that family reunion!

Ditto with Laverne DeFazio, although her father was on many episodes of Laverne and Shirley.

Oh yeah, then there is Two and a half Men.

Elly May Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Also, I believe Sonny Drysdale on that series had no siblings, but he was quite a bit older than a "child."

Jesse Spano did have a step brother who lived in New York. He moved to California briefly to live with Jessie and her parents. He created a lot of havoc for Jesse and her friends during the short time he was there and then moved back to New York.

Aimee Godsey on The Waltons

The Waltons is not considered to have been a sitcom... LOL (specified in the original post, "Sitcom families").

I was thinking about some non-sitcom examples as well; maybe we should start a thread on the board for Classic Dramas.

Well for that matter, same with Little House on the Prarie, but both shows seem to refered to alot on this board.

Sorry, Dusty's Fan. I seem to mush all the shows in general into one category, even though this site is called SitcomsOnline.com.

I guess my contribution about The Wonder Years is moot now!

Yeah, but more often when the question does not specify sitcoms!

Shawn on Boy Meets World was an only child for many seasons until it was revelaed that his father had a son with another woman. I think he can sort of count as an only child.
