View Full Version : How do you think Malcolm in the Middle and Everybody Hates Chris will do on N@N?

Malcolm in the Middle is coming to Nick at Nite this summer, and Everybody Hates Chris is coming to Nick at Nite this fall.
Will they fit in with the "new" Nick at Nite? Will they be big hits or will they bomb? Will one do better than the other? Will one (or both) be yanked from the schedule not long after it debuts? What do you think?

EHC is too new for N@N and will bomb and willing to bet my paycheck on that. It will not last to 2010

Both shows will find moderate success. EHC is way too new for NAN? What about George Lopez? It was added to the lineup 2 years ago, after getting cancelled the previous season, just like Chris, and its the highest rated show on NAN.

Does EHC have a laughtrack or Studo Audience?

Neither one. Same goes for Malcolm in the Middle.

It has neither.

What does that matter? Your argument was that Chris is too recent to be airing on NAN. So was George Lopez, and that became a hit for them. I don't think Chris will be quite as successful, but I think it'll do well for them.

EHC might end up one of those shows that does better in syndication, or... it'll be pulled and moved to 6am, lol! In the fall, EHC and Malcom will be their youngest skewing shows, and if both do well, I see them airing from 8-10pm, shifting George Lopez back to 10, The Nanny will remain at 11 and Family Matters will be back at 12. I don't see EHC or Malcom doing well in late night.

That's exactly how I see things happening, to the point. George Lopez will not stay at 9pm. It's place holder, and so is Fresh Prince at 10pm. I think NAN wants to keep that 9pm slot warm for Chris, and when Chris premieres in September, the viewers will already be in the slot, ready to watch Chris.
I agree, though - it'll be one of those shows to do much better in syndication.

Everybody Hates Chris takes place in the 1980's.
I think Malcom in the Middle will do OK (it fits well with the Nick evening shows, better than HI or Full House did), but not great. Everybody Hates Chris, I really don't think so, but I'm sure they will try to make it work.

I just hope it's not a typical black ghetto show from UPN/CW

You'll be disappointed then-lol. The show has that family feel to it, though. I always thought it was a great show in its first 2 seasons. After that it was almost unwatchable, though.

Wow, I never would have made that comparison. Probably because both are dysfunctional families. I think they're 2 completely different shows, though.

It'll probably do Home Improvement-ok. I bet NAN will be pleased with the ratings, especially for 8pm. I think with the recent acquisitions, both it and Chris will have a lot to live up to, though.

I figured that, anything that Chris Rock is involved in is most likely going to be Ghetto-lol

I agree, two very different shows. Solomon, your friend might have said the two were similar because, as Julie pointed out, both center around dysfunctional families. Because of that, Malcolm can be lumped together with shows like That '70s Show, Roseanne, Married...with Children, etc. The humor might be a little similar, but they don't have much in common.

I can see some similarities, but I think the humor is very different. Even though I'm a fan of Married with Children, I think Malcolm is more of a "smarter" show to say the least, just with the writing and everything. Married was the typical FOX sitcom in the day.

I agree. Although I was never the biggest fan, Malcolm in the Middle was a smart show at times. Smart in the way that Scrubs can be at times. And also like Scrubs, Malcolm can be a bit whacky. Married...with Children wasn't smart at all. I love it though.

Married with Children could just be the dumbest show ever to air on television-lol. But, it's definitely a great show. Love Scrubs, too. And Malcolm was a good show in the early years. Both Scrubs and Malcolm really started getting crazy in their later years, though.

My Three Sons, Patty Duke, Donna Reed, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents would be a complete disaster on Nick at Nite in this day and age. Even if they won't be huge hits, Malcolm in the Middle and Everybody Hates Chris will definitely do better than those shows on Nick at Nite in 2009.

I was thinking the same thing-lol. Those shows wouldn't even work on TV Land nowadays, which is actually sad.

Exactly. I wish more people would understand that. This isn't 1995, Patty Duke has no place on Nick at Nite. LOL
I do think Nick at Nite should still be aquiring shows strickly from the late '80s and from the '90s, but that could just be my wishful thinking.

There is no place for them anywhere on tv it seems. Not even overnight on any stations that only air infomercials.
I don't think any channel would touch Patty Duke (it airs on THIStv), and I think the only channels that would even consider My Three Sons or Alfred Hitchcock would be WGN America or Hallmark, lol. NAN and TV Land aren't classic TV channels anymore. NAN hasn't been since....lord, 2001?
I miss the late 80s and 1990s shows on NAN also.

Yep... they both center around families but Malcolm is MUCH more family friendly to watch than MWC. It appeals to kids and teens, while there's no way MWC does.
I think Malcolm will work well enough at 8 but not in late night, I expect FM to be back at Midnight by August.

It's going to be weird having Malcolm on Nick at Nite, I'm used to seeing it in the mid-morning on FX or around the 5pm hour in local syndication. I'm sure it will do well because N@N loves running shows into the ground.
NAN hasn't been since....lord, 2001?
I think the downfall of Nick at Nite was when they acquired Wings back in 2003. I notice that Wings is back home on USA for now in the early morning hours where it should be. Now I just wish they'd restore the USAM block to its former glory, but that block was lost when NBC merged with Universal and USA restructured around 2002.

I don't think Malcolm is a good fit for N@N, I dunno why it just seems like it will be out of place, same for EHC.
I think Malcolm might do okay at first, I think EHC will flop
