ALERT! There is an epidemic that is spreading further and further. It is called MEANitis. It just seems that more people are being meaner and more rude in this day and age. For instance, I was at my local YMCA and this old fart was watching CNN. He has been watching it the last 3 times I was there. Today, he watched it for over an hour and I wanted to watch something else. He said that he was still watching it (saying it very rudely.) I went out to the front desk and complained. Im sorry, but I think its only fair that when your in places like this, everyone should have a chance to watch what they want. It seems like every time I am there, it is always on Fox News or CNN. I get so tired of watching the same old tired news about crooked politicians. MEANitis is in other places to. People dont say hello on the streets anymore. They dont hold doors open for you. They dont smile like they used to. I try to be a nice person because I could never be irritable and snooty all the time.

One way to help alleviate "meanitis" might be to refrain from referring to someone (regardless of his attitude) as "an old fart."
But I do agree with your general point.:)

Seriously, life is too short. Bring a book and look forward to watching TV at your house. Also, stop taking mental notes everytime someone is rude to you. Remember the people that are courteous and be a good example.

Someone once told me that "life is rude, and so am I" (referring to himself). Guess that puts it succintly enough.

Lately I have been unintentionally rubbing a friend of mine the wrong way and now I feel like I have to walk on eggshells around this person, so maybe something is going round.

Unfortunately, there are always people who are rude, impatient, and self-centered. I try to tell myself that maybe they are just having a bad day. Sometimes you just have to ignore them or act very sweetly to them.

It's the economy, stupid! j/k ;) LOL, all joking and kidding aside though, I think everybody's meaner nowadays maybe because we're all scared to death about how we're going to make ends meet every month. I think we're about to hit Great Depression #2 and everybody's more grouchy because they're worried. Just my little hypothesis anyway.

Still there is no reason for people to go taking their anger out on someone else. I hate that! I'm pretty easygoing but sometimes my relflex reaction is to tell them something to the effect of "knock it off"! LOL.
