View Full Version : Prayers and Positive Thoughts Needed

What I've been fearing for several months has come to pass. When I was leaving work this afternoon, the dean of my department called me and one other person into her office. Even though we were called in separately, we both knew what it was about. Since we both have been fearing for months that this woud happen. Due to a recent upgrade in the computer system (begun late last year) the college doesn't need as many human workers. So my coworker's job as well as my job has been discontinued. In a week's time I went from being employee of the month to being unemployed!

I'm glad that I always save up 80% of my check each week. I have a quite a bit of money in the bank. However, this leaves me without health insurance. Also, I like going to work everyday. Thinking about all the days a head where I'm just going to be sitting around the house makes me feel sick. Since the economy is hanging by rags, it could be months before I find another job.

What I need from everyone isn't sympathy, but I hope everyone can send some positive vibes and some prayers my way that I find a another job soon. Very soon. Thanks. :)

I'm sorry about what happened. Do you think you could get another job somewhere within the college? I will keep you in my prayers and maybe there a job waiting for you somewhere in your area. Keep us posted on what happens keep your head up.

Good luck finding another job soon - hopefully the economy improves shortly.

You can probably get Cobra through work - Obama's plan says if you lose your job due to no fault of your own you can pay 35% of the Cobra premium to your employer. (I think the % is right but I'm not sure) I think this % is good for 6 months. Your employer should know the details. This may not be cheap but it is better than paying 100%.

Since sitting around the house does not appeal to you consider volunteering or doing something else that will get you out of the house.

Good luck :)

Sorry to hear about your job loss, I sure hope you can find something soon. Can you draw unemployment while you search for another job?

Mike, I know all too well the sting of losing a job as it happened to me last year. I recently went through re-training and graduated last February and since then have been in the market. Just be persistent and the right job will come along for you as I know it will for me. I will be praying for you as well.

Thanks everyone. :) Now that I don't have work provided health insurance, I am going to look into those health care programs set up for those people who are either out of work or self-employed. I'm also sure I qualify unemployment. I've also already begun my search for a new job. I filled out two apllications online late this afternoon. They are both at a community college. Not the one I worked at. They have no openings at the college I worked at.

Oh Mike, I just read this. I am so sorry this happened to you. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. It sounds like you have a positive attitude about it considering you've already applied for a couple of other jobs and looked into unemployment, so I have no doubt you will be back in the job market soon! Hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your job, Mike. Even though it may seem hard to believe that you'll find another job soon, believe it anyway!

OH Nuts!

Hang in there Mike! That you were able to save quite a bit, and had the discipline to do this was a very smart thing. Some things that helped me when I had to search for a job was to remember (1) that I had many skills that were transferable (2) to have more than one resume - that if I saw a job I liked I would tweak my core resume to accentuate the skills that most closely fit what was being sought. Keep plugging away and things will materialize!

I'm so sorry to heart this Mike. It's just awful news. It's a good thing that you didn't get your own place. You'll get another job. It may take some time, but it will happen.

Thanks, Janice. My fear that I might lose my job is what made me decide now wasn't the time to get a place of my own. Even though I really, really wanted to. I still hope to have my own place by the end of the year though.

Thank you also, Michelle and Jude. :)

I learned that God closes a door before he opens a new one. Trust Him, because I think that all of this is a testing of the endurance of our faith. Another thing I call it is "Living Caspian." You will understand it more if you see the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
