One of my favorite characters is James from The Hitchhiker, by R.L. Stine. James was 17, but had the maturity of a 30 year old man(in a good way). james was living on his own and was a bad boy, but he was alos smart and didn't take crap from anybody!

I had no idea where his parents were(If he's 17, I am sure, there should be some mention of parents somewhere), maybe he's an orphan or emancipated from his parents? I don't remember the book mentioing anything, but I am a little jealous. I'm 25, and this kid has more maturity than me!  (I do remember that he was writtne by a grown ass man!:p ) But, I do remember his uncle balmed him for stealing money that james knows he didn't take, and he punched hell out of his uncle... see..."Bad boy".... it tunrs out that some girl stole his uncle's money, but you shpould read this book because james is such a great character!:D

My favorite book character is Father Karris from The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty.

James Bond began as a book character in the novels by Ian Fleming (which I love) before he ever became a movie character.

I also love the character of Ben Mears from Stephen King's Salem's Lot, which I think remains his best book.

I also like Sherlock Holmes, who again started out as a character in the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, before he made it to the movies.

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. This woman is so admirable, anyone who's read that book has to love her!

Becky Sharp from Vanity Fair. She had her own agenda, and did whatever she had to.

Sidney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities. I think he's the best character Charles Dickens ever created.

Pearl from The Scarlet Letter. The creepiest kid in all of literature.

Alice from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. She is such a perfect little heroine. She's young, but still tries so hard to be a proper little English girl.

But my absolute favorite is Sara Crewe from A Little Princess. She may not be a princess, but she always tried to behave like one. This was my favorite book as a kid, and Sara Crewe was my hero. (Not the one from that stupid Shirley Temple movie - I mean the one Frances Hodgson Burnett created).

My favorite book character would be Anne Shirley from L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, Ann of Avonlea, etc. etc. etc. I love those books and have read them all more times that I can remember.

Second favorite would be Jo March from Little Women. I adore that book and the character of Jo makes me proud of strong, brave, independent women everywhere, and broken-hearted at the same time because she gives up so much for that independence. Luckily it has a nice ending.

Third favorite...laugh if you want...Junie B. Jones. What can I say? I teach first grade. I read these books over and over to my classes every year and I have never read one without laughing out loud. Sometimes its the highlight of my day!

Ah, I have so many but none are coming to me right now except for this one:
Clarissa Dalloway, from Virgina Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway.
It's one of my favorite books, and Dalloway's character is the most interesting. I've read the book three times, and everytime I've read it, I seem to have a different view of her.

One of my favorite Sweet Dreams characters is the main character in Backstage Romance. I read the book when I was about 14 so I THINK the main character`s name was Teresa. Teresa joins a play as a stagehand, and then works her way up. During this time, she develops a huge crush on the hot male lead, Jason. They go out to a pizza parlor as friends. Here is a new twist. Another stagehand named Travis has a crush on HER. He asks her out, and she declines him, saying, "I like Jason. I want to date HIM." Travis is crushed, but decides to accept the fact that she prefers Jason over him. She spends more time with Jason, only to see that Jason is a nasty jerk who is arrogantly full of himself. She is HORRIFIED! She goes to Travis, and says, "I`m ready to date you now." Travis said "Now that you find out that Jason is a jerk, you wanna date me? Go screw yourself, Teresa!" He said bitterly and left. I understood Teresa. I would have told Travis the same thing They eventually dated however.

Regina Lazarescu from 'Field of Blood' by Eric Wilson. She's strong and independent, yet vulenerable at the same time. My personal belife is that the first part of her last name (Lazares) is named after the man in the Bible whom Jesus raised from the dead. Regina can't die. She walked away after being hit by a van, no broken bones are scars. Awesome read.
