I recently began watching TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and fell in love with motion pictures during the Golden Era of Hollywood (1920's-1950's); and the movie stars during this period. Is there a particular movie(s) or an actor or actress that you are very fond of during this time?

Taura dear, it's TCM-TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES. You said TMC-TURNER MOVIE CLASSICS.:)
Any way, I like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Loyd, Lon Chaney (I like to watch the silent movies on there sometimes)
Bob Hope & Bing Crosby, the Marx bros., Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant-and others I can't think of right now.
As for movies, "THE GOLD RUSH", "CITY LIGHTS", "WINGS", "THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME" (both the silent one and the sound one with Claude Rains), "BEN HUR" (both the silent and the sound versions), "THE GRADUATE", "SLEEPER", "SILVER STREAK". (and many others I'm too tired to think of right now)

If you want to learn more about the stars and movies, go to wikipedia for the list of AFI 100 years...100 stars. Then go to youtube for clips of them. That's how I got really into it. Very interesting and fun stuff.

Ha, thanks for correcting me; this is what happens when you do not pay a lot of attention when you are creating a thread.

Carole Lombard
Joe E. Brown (and practically all comedies for that matter!)
Oh so many... so, so many...
The leading men:
William Powell - you gotta respect a man who can down 30 martinis a 90 minute film.
Rex Harrison - he was the King of Siam, the ghost with Mrs. Muir, Doctor Dolittle, even Ceasar himself!
Gene Kelly - he sang, he danced, he acted, he directed, he choreographed... did I mention he was gorgeous?
Yul Brynner - The first bald guy in Hollywood under the age of 50
Robert Taylor - I'm such a sucker for that pencil-thin moustache!
Robert Walker - sadly he's nearly forgotten now, but an amazing talent
Cary Grant - so charming, so classy, so - Cary Grantish!
Dana Andrews - he was sadly under-rated during his lifetime.
Don Ameche - probably the most likable guy in Hollywood
Louis Jourdan - simply the best looking guy Hollywood ever imported!
James Dean - the guy died far too young, but what a legacy.
Errol Flynn - that man was so handsome you don't need a reason.
Tyrone Power - same reason
The leading ladies:
Jean Harlow - she looked like a goddess, and sounded like a waitress from New Jersey
Deborah Kerr - one classy lady - with a hair color I'd kill for!
Carole Lombard - taken far, far too young - but what a great life
Ingrid Bergman - do I really need to explain her?
Audrey Hepburn - or her?
Grace Kelly - our American princess
Judy Garland - the little girl with the great big voice and the big brown eyes
Doris Day - I can't help but love her - no other reason
Debbie Reynolds - I wanted her for my best friend in highschool
Marilyn Monroe - she had an aura around her that's impossible to explain
Bette Davis - this lady had Attitude (with a capital A)
Carole Lombard
Joe E. Brown (and practically all comedies for that matter!)
Oh I worship Carole Lombard. She was so beautiful and had (by all accounts) a wicked sense of humor. She was taken far too soon. I don't think Clark Gable ever got over her :(
My grandmother actually knew Joe E. Brown! I was so surprised to see him listed! Not exactly your typical leading man, but he was wonderful. Probably the only man to succesfully upstage Marilyn Monroe!
Buster Keaton
Personally, I always preferred him to Charlie Chaplin. He seemed so genuine - just a nice boy from Kansas, who happened to be made of rubber and could defy gravity ;)

I always thought Chaplin was overrated. He may have been the first silent
screen comedian, but Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd make me laugh more.

Well, it goes without saying that I am an Audrey Hepburn fanatic! I love TCM as well and wish I could get it at home, but I have to settle for watching it when I'm on vacation somewhere that carries it!
My other favorites are:
Katherine Hepburn
Cary Grant
Jack Lemmon
Shirley MaClaine-her older movies
Tony Curtis
There are so many others, but those are my favorites!

I'm not sure who is considered the first, but Max Linder, John Bunny, and Ford Sterling were making silent comedies years before Chaplin came along.
