Ha! I was going to post this link here myself this morning. I got the email late last night. The video was up for only 48 hours and has been hit way more times than any other singer's clips.

Susan Boyle is AMAZING. And actually, it fries me that people laughed at her when she first came out.

NEVER judge a book by it's cover. There's beauty in EVERYONE. Just because it might not be on the top surface doesn't mean she isn't a beautiful person. I'm glad she showed the judges and everyone else!!

You GO Susan! I hope you win the show - you're flawless!!

Did you see last year when they introduced the cell phone salesman?. When he said he was going to sing opera, Simon and Piers looked at each other and laughed. Not only was he tremendous but he won the entire competition.

I know, (I saw that season). They actually piss me off a bit with their antics and facial expressions. Sure, some are complete morons who only think they have talent, but they should know after Clay Aiken and Ruban Stoddart that plenty of "odd" looking people have incredible talent. Never hurt Aretha Franklin one bit did it!! ;)

Boyle's Got Talent
by Mike Krumboltz
April 13, 2009 12:53:39 PM

204 Votes "American Idol" isn't the only launching pad for aspiring singers. Across the pond, "Britain's Got Talent" scored a huge boost in the Buzz after an unassuming contestant gave an amazing performance.

Susan Boyle (remember that name) became a Web phenomenon after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. The performance brought the audience to its feet and left the judges (including Simon Cowell) either speechless or in tears.

Before going on stage, Ms. Boyle admitted some self-deprecating facts about herself (she's never been kissed and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles). For those reasons and more, audiences were expecting the female William Hung. They were wrong.

Lookups on the sudden star posted huge gains. A no-name just the other day, Ms. Boyle quickly surged into our top 5,000 overall searches. Blogs and gossip rags went wild. The Mirror jumped on the story, reporting that while Ms. Boyle thought she "looked like a garage" on TV, she received a standing ovation when she showed up at her local church.

Other sources write that as a child, Ms. Boyle was the target of bullies because of a disability. But, with her newfound fame, she is getting the last laugh. In fact, she's already meeting with officials from Mr. Cowell's Sony BMG label. This may have been the first you've heard of her, but it certainly won't be the last.

somehow i could tell by her speaking voice that she at least had potential for a good singing voice.

Makes me sick the way people judge others just based on the way they look. I'll never undrstand that. Hearing the audience laugh and snicker, and seeing the looks of disdain on the male judges faces, made me sick!!!

Her performance was absolutely amazing, and even rivaled that of the opera singer from a couple years ago, (who the judges also initially looked down on). I was moved by Susan's performance, and I hope that she leads other people who may not look the part, to go after their dreams!! You're awesome Susan. I hope you win it all!!!

I know! My stomach turned to when I saw the eye rolling from the audience. I loved it though when she shoved those eye rolls and snickers right back in their faces the moment she opened her mouth. As Sarah said, you could tell from her speaking voice that there was something there. Absolute perfection! I've never seen Simon just sit and totally enjoy a performance. There was NOTHING to criticize about it. Susan's my new hero! She also has a great sense of humour you can tell. I'd love to have her over for tea and to chat (I just love her accent even).

If there's a website where anyone can vote for her (even if we don't get the show) I want to get on it and vote my butt off for her. (Although, as the article said, she's already being signed up).

I'm not familiar with Elaine Page, but I do know that Susan's voice is the purest and prettiest I've heard since Sarah Brightman.

American Idol and America's got talent are glossy versions of the old amateur hour and the gong show, but it goes to show how much unknown talent exists. These shows give these folks, who may lack the funds to promote themselves a chance to be seen and heard by millions.

Last year on America's got talent, Terry Fater, was the overall winner. To me he was one of the greatest performers I have ever seen in my life. He signed a ten year contract in Vegas for ten million dollars. I'm looking forward to this summer and another season.

I agree Harvey. I've always loved these talent shows. Watched The Gong Show (although most of the acts on there were outrageous, there was the odd really talented one). Used to watch Star Search (yes, I saw Britney as a little kid) and have watched all season's of America's Got Talent. I LOVED Terry Fater - what a great, new type of act he has and is now very successful in Vegas as you mentioned.

There is a TON of talent that hasn't been discovered. Even the last company I worked for had plenty of talented people. They even had a "company band". Employees who could play instruments or sing formed a band that would play at different company functions. You'd swear they were a professional band.

One company I was interviewed for also has a company band and music is very important to them. I was asked if I played any instruments, etc. (thankfully I do). It's good to have stuff like that on your resume these days.

What I loved to hear is that Susan is currently unemployed - talk about going from rags to riches over night! I just hope she's got good representation. She's so vunerable that she could really be taken advantage of.

I wanted to bump this thread back up, and post a link to Paul Potts amazing performance on the show from a couple years ago, for those who might not have seen it. The first time I saw this, I was actually in tears. I just love it when the underdog goes out their and completely shocks the world. Get a load of this performance!! Still gives me goosebumps!!

Boy I hope so! I've never really been interested in seeing Les Mis, but after seeing her performance, I even want to go see it (with or without her, that song is beautiful). I've rewatched hers (and the other guy's) performance over and over and get goosebumps from the moment she opens her mouth every time.!

Have you heard the other clip of her they've now found? It's on YouTube also - linked to this one now. She has the most amazing voice I think I've ever heard. It's so CLEAR and pure.

It sounds like you guys get Britian's Got Talent in the U.S.. I've seen the U.S. version, but it doesn't look like we can get the Brit version in Canada (which is really stupid). When does it air? I'm going to see if I can follow this season now online if I have to.

lol... her voice is beautiful indeed, but i still don't really see the surprise of it. maybe because i've done choir activities with people about her age (and level of physical attractiveness) who had amazing voices. with age comes more time for training.

she reminds me of julie andrews. i really prefer that style over the generic pop sound that most auditioners use.

I see exactly what you mean Sarah - and knew you'd feel that way. I guess I'm just getting a kick out of seeing her get her chance - like I'd like to see with so many talented people. I'd LOVE to hear you sometime. Maybe you could record and upload to YouTube or something. I'll bet you're fantastic too. Your octave range alone shows you MUST have an amazing voice.

I also get a big kick out of her personality. Here she is, like so many of us who got teased and were the underdog in school, but she's grown to be sure of herself and say "screw you" in the nicest of ways. LOL

And I agree - it's when people sing show tunes, classic songs etc. over pop that it really shows whether they have great chops or not. I'm glad young people still appreciate and enjoy and realize the "classics" for being just that - ageless and timeless music. Who cares 40 years from now if you've got your "Sexy Back"! ;)

That's what I was going to ask her myself. I think she sounds just as good, if not better then many of the people that make it on those shows, and with her being able to play the piano as well, that's an added bonus!! I can't sing, or play an instrument, so I'm incredibly impressed. It sounds like we have a prodigy on our hands here at S.O.!! ;)

A person's looks is what we see initially. But, it seems as if people these days are focusing too much on looks. I think women are under more pressure to look good. The media tries to tell them they are not attractive if they are not rail thin like those models. It's really sad.

I totally agree with you. The media is oftentimes downright cruel to people who don't have a rail thin body, or perfect physical features, and it's totally unfair. It's like my mom, she's a little overweight, and is not what one would consider a typical beauty, but she's the most beautiful woman in the world to me. When I see the media making fun of someone's looks, I think about my mom, and how if anyone ever mocked her that way, I'd go crazy, and hurt them very badly.

I'm not into the typical beauty anyway. The most beautiful often have the worst personalities. Someone like your mom is someone I would pursue. Maybe not a perfect 10 in looks, but someone with a great personality.

I appreciate you saying that about my mom Darren, it put a smile on my face, and I know it would hers too. Thanks!! :) For me, I mainly go for the way a person's heart is. I can be attracted to someone beautiful, or not so beautiful, it all depends on how they are on the inside. You can have the most beautiful girl in the world hit on you, but if their heart isn't right, I'm not the least bit attracted to them. Their inward ugliness outshines their outward beauty.

Which is sad, because the average American woman is a size 14; and besides that, most guys prefer women with a little meat on their bones to an anorexic looking model (who looks like a twelve year old boy with no boobs and no butt)

Size 14? I don't know how big the average woman is in terms of weight, but I read somewhere that roughly 2/3 of the US is overweight to some extent. People call me skinny all the time and tell me to gain weight. I'm 6'2" 165 with a muscular build. I don't know what most women prefer, but I'd imagine they don't want a rail thin guy either.

Simon is a jackass! When the American Idol tryouts were in Seattle a few years ago, he said that people in Seattle had no talent. I don't even watch the show, but I know that one of the finalists, Blake Lewis, is from Seattle.

Hmmm....

I refuse to watch American Idol because I can't stand to see the audience taunting these people-whether they can sing or not. Some are probably doing it for a joke, but there are some that are serious about persuing their dreams.
