Anyone here ever suffer from chest pains? If so what did you do or take to make them go away? Anyone suffer chest pains as a result of anxiety?

I am just asking because I am suffering from chest pains today. :( I'm pretty sure it's anxiety related.

I never used to get them until the past year or so and it's definitely from anxiety. It IS a horrible feeling. Don't really think there's much you can do other than try to take it easy when it happens. If you're at home, I found sometimes taking a warm bubble bath and then watching t.v. can sometimes at least reduce them.

They are quite scary - especially when you're in your late 40s and are a smoker....

Hope yours goes away soon!

(btw - yes, I'm on anti-depressants and anxiety meds now).

only once. it was so bad i went to the emergency room and got treated there. it wouldn't have been related to anxiety though.

I use to get them all the time, but it seems like they've gone away since I've been medicated.

If it gets too bad Jen, definitely call 911. The heart is nothing to mess around with!! If you ever feel like you're having a heart attack, take an aspirin. I've heard of people's lives being saved by doing that. I hope you feel better soon!

One Saturday in June of 2002 I felt a tightness in my chest, my arms felt limp, and I developed a cold sweat from the top of my head to my toes. I wanted to lie down but my wife said "no, we are going to the hospital". She gave me a aspirin and we went. I had a heart attack while on the stretcher taking a ekg. The physician told me that taking the aspirin probably saved my life. Aspirin is a blood thinner and a attack occurs when blood clots develop and blood cannot reach the heart. I take a baby aspirin everday, not needing Plavic, a prescription blood thinner.

That is an amazing story, thank God you were okay!! It's amazing how something like taking a little pill can be the difference between life and death. Thanks for sharing your story, and giving first hand information on how taking an aspirin can save your life. I truly am glad that you ended up okay!! :)

Chest pains are nothing to overlook. Don't think they will just "go away" with something you take because sometimes they don't. You should make an appointment with your doctor, because you may have high blood pressure or could be having a mild heart attack. Don't be in denial and think it is all anxiety.

Problem is that most people are afraid of doctors, fearing bad news, so they don't go. As you said, they feel time will make it go away. If it's serious, it just won't go away. Better to get bad news then just sitting around doing nothing.

I've been having them more recently after the panic attack I had last month, but I've been experiencing chest pains as a result of anxiety since I was about 8 years old. It's terrible. You feel like you can't breath in all the way or it'll hurt. I really don't do anything about them. I usually just try to relax until it goes away.

Five years ago I had a pain in my left arm. It felt like it came right from my veins. Whenever I got upset it would shoot right into my chest. I would sweat all the time and it was the middle of winter. There were some nights that I just couldn't get to sleep because it hurt so much. I went to the doctor and they didn't know what was wrong. It finally went away after about 6 months. It's best to go see your doctor and be sure that nothing's wrong. Chest pains are nothing to fool around with.

About ten years ago I suffered from chest pains due to anxiety. This may very well be why you are suffering from pains in your chest. However, I would consider seeing your doctor just to be on the safe side. I hope that you feel better.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear that. I had some bouts with them due to anxiety in my earlier teenage years, but haven't had any for about the past 2 years (thank God). I hope you feel better.:(

Another thing I've heard is that if you're ever by yourself and feel that you might be having a heart attack (like Harvey did), not only try to take an asprin, but cough as deeply as you can - it actually acts similar to CPR while you're getting yourself to the hospital.

And remember, heart attack symptoms in women can and often differ from that in men.

I'm guessing the anxiety over Easter with your mom and her boyfriend had you worked up. Is there anyone you can talk to about how upset their relationship is making you feel? No reason to ruin your health.

I've had chest pains because of panic anxiety. That's not fun at all. I've been taking pills for four years, and I don't dare to stop taking them. :(

For those who posted in this thread, thank you. I appreciate it.

I think my chest pains were a result of anxiety and allergy medicine. I think I took a little too much allergy medicine accidently. Add to that my mother's ongoing relationship with her boyfriend. She's so wrapped up with her boyfriend that she was oblivous to the fact that I was in pain. I would probably have to be severely injured or deathly sick for her to notice. :(

Awww, that sounds terrible. Your mother should be able to find time for both you and her boyfriend. It might not be easy for her, but...

I hope that it is nothing more than anxiety and a reaction to your allergy medication, but I would still have your doctor check you out to be on the safe side. When it comes to having chest pains, you don't want to take any chances.

I've been on antidepression/anxiety meds for 7 years. I hate taking something everyday, but I also like to go out of the house and function like a normal human being, so I just keep taking them.

It's such a...idk if it's a Catch-22, but whatever.

I can get up and go to work, so the pills are worth it. Before, I used to skip college all the time. Not good.

btw...nice to have you back posting. :)

It's unreal what stress and anxiety can do to a person. Jenny, you should get yourself checked out, to be on the safe side. The phrase, stress kills, is true. It's scary.

Thanks everyone. I started on a new medicine that will be in addition to the medicine I already take. I'm hoping it will help.

Occassionally, but it's because of my asthma. I generally get them when I play basketball or football.

That's not from the asthma Darren. You should only get chest pain during a full blown asthma attack - not from activity. If you're getting chest pains without wheezing, you should be checked out by your doctor.

I've had asthma for 45 years and only got chest pains during an attack (or the day following because of sore chest and stomach muscles). Mine was so bad that I couldn't even play sports other than swimming. I'd mention it to your doctor the next time you're in.

I do get the pains with wheezing. In my case, I get it during full court games. It's not as bad if I'm playing on one hoop, but in a full court game, it's worse. I also get mucus in my throat a lot. That's the most common in my case.

I never got chest pains from my asthma but I have gotten rib pains. When that happens it becomes hard to even try to take a deep breath.

Exactly - that's what I meant about chest pains during or after an attack - it's more just really sore muscles. (And they're NOT fun either)

Darren if you're getting actual chest pains, that might be more than just asthma. As I said, I'd have it checked out. Especially if you're feeling any numbness or tingling in your arms or fingers when it happens. Also, if you're getting a lot of mucus, try to cut down or preferrably out, dairy products. It's now been found that dairy products contribute to mucus in the lungs. (Found out from my dentist who's asthmatic himself).
