Just thought I'd let everyone here know that Facts of Life IS being released by Columbia House starting at the end of February. They recently began selling Diff'rent Strokes also. I've called twice this week and representatives have confirmed next month as the release of the series. The reps assured me that the ENTIRE series will be sold in increments of 10 volumes with 4 episodes each until the entire series is available.

Purple eyes, this may be a stupid question, but do you know where I can buy this Columbia House video series?

Tootie: Muffy? Her name is Muffy? What kind of person is named Muffy?

Jo: Beats me, Tootie.

Call 1-800-457-0866 for FOL in February and Diff'rent Strokes as of 2 weeks ago. Trust me.

Inasmuchs I *do* love Facts, it seems ridiculous to sell vidz of a show that is still on all the time on cable! They've done this with All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, etc. Why can't they sell vidz of stuff the stations don't air, like Perfect Strangers, Head of the Class, etc.?

Cause they sell them Uncut, No on screen graphics, no squeezed up credits, no voiceovers!
I'd pay them to get the videos and avoid that junk that channels force on us.

TJ, I just saw a Columbia House ad in the new TV guide, and Diff'rent Stroke is out on Video.

As much as I love being a skeptic about stuff like this, I want to believe that FoL will be out on video within the next few months.

and yeah, FOL on video would be worth it. an extra 4 minutes of footage per episode, no squeezed credits, and the 15 or more episodes N@N refuses to air... it's worth it.

DS is out, I emailed them myself and its now available by subscription.

Woohoo! I'm sorry for doubting your info purple_eyes - it is just that people have told me before that it was coming on video and then it never happened.

I will probably get the next 4 volumes of the Jeffersons and then switch over to Diffrent Strokes.

but the comment that they will be releasing the ENTIRE series, I don't know about it. The only 2 series I have received are Family Ties and The Incredible Hulk and they both stopped after 10 volumes. Laverene & Shirley also stopped at 10 volumes. 10 volumes is usually the norm, unless they've changed that..

Does anyone know the amount of volumes released for other series? Good Times I heard over 25 tapes..

189 DS episodes / 4 episodes per tape X $25 a tape = $1175 http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/eek.gif

Could it have something to do with customer demand?

I wouldn't expect a show like Family Ties to have that much demand for it, but a show like Good Times or FOL would have it's rabid fan base behind it, fueling the release of the entire series.

Just a thought.

All in the Family was always 10 volumes at a time but i got the whole 35 volumes some years ago so maybe they changed it. It sounds to me like theyd do 10 at a time and if demand continues and i know it will they will do more.

I'm sure it has a little to do with demand, but I think of Laverne & Shirley as a more popular show than Good Times.

Good Times was never as popular as Family Ties which was consistently a higher rated show.

From a collectors' stand-point, I can see how Good Times may be more popular as vcr's were not as common in 1974-79.

Just wait until you see Family Ties on Nick at Nite in September and the fans will be everywhere like FOL.. FOL was basically dead after it left USA and even when it was on USA it was never as popular as it is now.. Family Ties will see a re-birth of fans like FOL and a whole batch of new ones once it is on in prime-time.

No problem TJ. I probably should've been upfront in the first post and said I work at CH, but I wasn't sure who was at this site and I don't want to get in any trouble.

By the way, we offer 25 volumes of Good Times right now with more on the way.

Series demand is usually the determining factor in our releasing a particular series to video or DVD, but it also depends on whether or not contracts can be negotiated.

To:Purple_eyes: any chance of "Archie Bunkers Place" being released from Columbia House?
There may not be enough popularity to bring it out. Just wonderin.

I haven't seen many requests for Archie Bunkers Place, but considering we have All in the Family, anything is possible.

I've just received a listing of the 2 DS tapes currently available, they are not in order but that is not a big deal as long as they are all released.. it looks like they will be released in 'theme' sets:

MOVING IN AND OUT (tape 1)
MOVING IN (#1)
THE SOCIAL WORKER (#2)
MOTHER'S LAST VISIT (#3)
THE RELATIVE (#12)

ARNOLD (tape 2)
THE SPANKING (#4)
GOODBYE, DOLLY (#6)
THE TRIAL (#7)
NEW LANDLORD (#14)

I Just wanted to let everyone know that "Facts of Life" is going to be relesed by Columbia House next month. I spoke to them personally and they said "Its gonna be relesed in about a month or 2, the only thing we need is the COPYRIGHT from The Owner of The Facts of Life, then we will get started on making the videos, then we'll relese them to the public (thru their company) soon after that"! So heads up everybody! Columbia House IS relesing FOL in a few months, by spring you can get them!!!

The FOL tapes have already been made and are in stock, but we're not contracted to sell them until the end of February. If anyone calls us to ask for them, reps have to say we don't have them because we're legally not contracted to sell them yet. Applications should be out soon though since it takes 2 -4 weeks to process them and by that time, the contracts will be in place.

I'm really excited about the Facts of Life coming out on video. I've been trying to record the whole series. (minus the first season. Jo's the only reason I started watching the show, and since she's not around in the first season, why bother?)

Don't forget No Voiceovers either on the videos!
I hate those too!

This'll make a great companion to the Diff'rent Strokes tape set and the I Love Lucy DVD set I shall be getting. And since it is the whole series…

No more cut down USA or N@N episodes, no more 3rd generation tapes that people recorded off NBC 20 years ago. In this case, you take the GOOD. The very good.

How do you re-subscribe to TV shows after the series run out but then future volumes are introduced? I want to do that when the future volumes of "Good Times" are released.

purple_eyes: what is the story on Diff'rent Strokes - I received a out of stock notice a few days ago. Have any tapes been mailed out yet or are they waiting until they've built up a certain number of subscribers? I was told that the first 2 tapes had already been produced.

TJ - The demand for Diff'rent Strokes was so extreme that we sold out of our first two shipments of stock. We're waiting on several thousand copies of each volume now. Should be about a week or two before they are available for shipment.
