My job called today but I missed the call and now I'm worried. They left a message on my cellphone and my house phone but I didn't get either until after the office was closed. My boss said in it "its 3:30 pm. if you get this call us back or call in the morning" they usually don't call me for anything unless they need me to fill in but then they just find someone else if they can't get a hold of me so i know its not that. I know this sounds silly and I usually don't get paranoid but w/ the state of the economy I can't help it. I know I haven't done anything wrong and most people would say "well if you didn't do anyhting wrong than you have nothing to worry about" but clients at the shelter have been doing things lately out of spite like making false claims with dcf against staff. My boss there just went through 2 months of hell being investigated because of a clients false claim. However, I'm low on the totum pole as I'm just a contracted worker. Again this sounds silly and it'll probably be something so inane but i'm real worried.

:bighug: thanks Monika. I hope I'm worrying about nothing.
I'm sure it'll be okay. I totally understand though - with the economy the way it is, I freak out over everything. It always turns out to be nothing. Keep us posted though!

Don't worry.
Let us know what happens though..
I kinda got a scare on Friday. Usually I have my schedule by then and check the personal management computer to see what it is as well as get an e-mail.
When I got to work, it wasn't there and I thought they were cutting hours or maybe they were letting me go or something..
Turns out it was a glitch in the system, I got the e-mail a few hours later...

Since we haven't had an update yet, I'm hoping it was just a call to come into work today. No news is good news so far.
Let us know Kimberlee - keeping our fingers crossed.
Isn't this horrible how we're all so paranoid now. Not a great way to have to live. Hopefully we'll be out of this crisis near the end of the year. Hang in there.

Well, I wonder if the fact I didn't get my schedule on Friday morning had anything to do with this...
At my store, we had 8 managers which was too many managers and we should have had 4.
I figured that they would be transferred out.. Well, I was right about one manager... Another supervisor is now hourly.... Weird thing is, they transferred another manager from another store to my store when I thought they could have kept the one they had previously transferred out.
Three managers were let go. :(

Kimberlee, hang tight and let us all know how it goes! They were probably looking for you to fill in - they said call us back in the morning - it's probably something relatively minor - if it were major, they would have probably tried calling you back again during the day (I would think) or they would want you in IMMEDIATELY. But neither of that went down, so you should be OK.

Hi guys (and girls :) ) didn't mean to keep you all wondering. It turned out to be nothing like i thought, and i feel silly that i even bothered yall about something turning out to be so dumb. after worrying myself all night i called them the first minute this morning and it turned out to be some very minor warning about how i wasn't in proper uniform last friday. (another contracted co-worker tattled on me:rolleyes: ) but i want to thank you all for being there for me, it comforted me alot that i was in your thoughts, it truly did because i had so much anxiety over this and its nice to have this little family here i can always turn to. so thank you (in no particular order) Monika, Doodyville, Liza, Tripperfan & Waterson_fan for your kind words and comfort. Its a scary time and its nice to know we can all lean on each other, to know no matter how bad our day is or how bad we're feeling, we're always among friends here.

Too bad you didn't tell them, you scared me to death!
I thought I was being let go or something... Or ask them, if it something like that, don't call and scare me.

Yeah, really! I thought about it and would have if I wasn't so relieved. Given the economic condition the nation is suffering from you'd think they'd be a little sensitive. But I guess with unemployment rates as they are they probably feel they have a bit of leverage and can wield the ax more freely.
But calling is the only way they can contact me as I'm contracted through them, so in reality I have 2 bosses the one at the place I'm actually assigned and my "mother" company. I see my assigned location boss everyday but I neve hear from my "mother" company boss unless theres an issue regarding coverage or some typeof insubordination. But something so petty like that they could have left it in a voicemail message!

I'm glad everything turned out OK :)
That was pretty chiuldish and petty of your co-worker to tattle about you not being in proper uniform.

 It would be tempting to push that co-worker into dog poo and see if they stay in uniform all day!!
If I were their boss, I'd think they had too much time on their hands to inspect their co-workers uniforms and would make take on another chore or two. ;) That IS pretty petty. Sounds like someone's jealous....

Well..... the thing is, if the rule is for employees to wear a certain uniform or certain dress code then it should be abide by..
Sorry PunkyPower.
I think the managers could have at least waited until she came to work to tell her.
Now, that being said... I have a co worker who had been wearing flip flops at work and she works on shipment, putting merchandise away and she isn't supposed to wear flip flops. Now, if you go to Target or Old Navy or any other store or hospital, do you see employees wearing flip flops?
That employee doesn't know that I expressed concern that she might get hurt then turn around and sue if she did get hurt. That didn't do anything as to talking to my store manager so... Nothin' I can really do.

Kimberlee, I too am glad it turned out to be nothing, although if that co-worker had an issue with something you did, that person should have said something to you directly instead of tattling behind your back to a boss. If someone did that to me, I would have been irked, too. That person just seemed to show a lack of respect.
Times are tough right now, something I know all too well. :( Oh well, I can't let it discourage me.
Take care.

In that case then I would say something. Actually, don't know what the laws are in the U.S., but here in Canada, her supervisor would be the one most liable if she were to get hurt at work. He could be fined up to $250,000 and lose his job. The company could be fined up to $2 million!!!!
If it were a safety issue, then o.k., but if it was because she didn't have an apron on or something then it's stupid and petty.
Still, I wouldn't go to a manager first, I'd just mention it to the co-worker themselves - only for their own good.

Don't be sorry about it Waterson. I'm not disputing that I was in the wrong for not wearing my uniform. Any consequences from that infraction is my own fault. I just didn't like how he went about it. However, if it was for safety reasons my uniform was required I would not blame him.
I work as a security officer though and depending what site you're assigned to the clients there dictate uniform specifications to conform to their type of business. For instance at the hospital I worked at they preferred a standard uniform that looks similar to a cops'. The site I'm at now is more laidback and the client doesn't mind if I wear civilian clothes or uniform, she usually leaves it up to whats comfortable to me as my duties also include clerical there.
Now 99% of the time I do wear my standard uniform as sometimes we have an unruly group in the shelter and it kind of puts more "authority" into the directions I give them, but most Fridays I do go casual. My security company boss however is a stickler about being in uniform unless told otherwise by the client, however, i don't think the client ever officially told my security company that uniformity is a nonissue. I might have her tell them that for future reference.
Th person who told on me was a per diem who's only been there twice in the past year so is oblivious to the daily work environment and atmosphere and so I was mad how he went about it especially since hes not familiar with the site

My job just called me and after reviewing tapes regarding another incident they came across a guy sneaking in the building through a 2ND floor window (don't ask me how) during second shift (shift before me) and jumping out sometime before dawn on my shift. Apparently this has been on going and has happened as recently as last night and they're mad that I never saw him. But there are 4 sides to the building and i can't see all sides.
To give some background i work at a women and childrens homeless shelter that also has subsidized apartments. the tenants in those apartments have strict rules to follow like curfews (anywhere between 10pm -11:30 at the latest) and they also are only allowed visitors on certain days, fri-sun 12pm -8pm although you can have that privelege taken away for not going to group meetings, failing apartment inspections, not completing 20 hrs a week of either working/schooling or volunteering and other infractions. no men are allowed to stay overnight. period.

Do you walk around the place, like maybe if the guy was seen, maybe they expected you to maybe notice him?
Forgive me for saying this but...
Maybe you need to find another job..

i do inside tours though that would not help that much as i don't have xray vision and can't see through the walls of the apartments. i suppose i might hear a mans voice through a wall but haven't noticed anything thus far.
as far as outside tours i do not do them because of the area i'm in and at the time of night i work, nor does the boss at that assigned site want me to be outside at that time of night. there are plenty of drive by shootings where the shelter is located and i will not do exterior tours around the perimeter.
the man in question was not seen inside the building as far as actual hallways go or other common areas, he entered and exited strictly through the window and did not go out of the apartment anytime in between so it would be almost impossible for me to know he was there. there are 36 cameras i have to watch so its hard to focus on one.
believe me i'm not one of those lazy barney fife type security guards you see in the movies. i've been highly recognized and commended for my work at numerous sites.

Oh I know. I just wanted to get the layout of what you do. I just thought maybe the guy has been really sneaky but maybe um.. if they know what window he comes in and out of, then maybe have an officer just before you start your shift and wait near the window.
Surprised your bosses haven't thought of that yet.
EDIT: Or maybe put cans near the window or on the floor or something like that.
On a Brady Bunch episode, Greg did that on the doors when they heard there were robbers in the area but turns out the dog took Cindy's doll.
