I don't listen to current country, just stuff from about the mid-50s up to the mid-80s, sometimes a little later, but not much 90s stuff. I haven't delved too much into the male singers yet either, so I just have a couple of ladies.
1. Crystal Gayle (even though her chart success was limited to the country charts, I think she's the very essence of crossover artist, and so I almost hesitate to put her on this list)
2. Tanya Tucker
3. Loretta Lynn
4. Dolly Parton
5. Lynn Anderson
6. Tammy Wynette
7. Emmylou Harris
8. Barbara Mandrell

Crystal Gayle and Lynn Anderson each did duets with Gary Morris. As a fellow soap fan, you are probably familiar with "Another World (You Take Me Away)", which Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris took to the country Top Ten in 1987. They also did "Makin' Up For Lost Time", which became popular due to its exposure on the nighttime soap Dallas. Gary Morris and Lynn Anderson recorded "You're Welcome to Tonight". All terrific songs!!

Yes, he was a victim of Boss Hogg's speed trap. To get out of a speeding ticket he performed "Take This Job and Shove It" at the Boar's Nest.

Ah yes, the infamous Boss Hogg celebrity speed trap. Lots of country singers got caught and had to pay off their (trumped up) fine by performing at the Boar's Nest. Buck Owens, Roy Orbison, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Dottie West were among the "victims".
