A Croatian man has drunk nothing but Coca-Cola for the past 40 years after making a promise to his mother that he would not touch alcohol.

Pero Ajtman, 71, of Karanac, started drinking Coke in 1968 and has vowed to carry on until the day he dies.

He explained to 24 Sata: "My mum didn't like me drinking when I was a young man as she was very religious. She made me promise never to drink again and Coca-Cola was the only thing that tasted as good as wine so I started drinking that.

"Now I have a glass in the morning, before and after lunch, with my dinner and then before I go to bed. I never drink anything else."

The pensioner added that he has no desire to give up his liquid habit, vowing: "Coke is my drug now, and I'll drink it till I die."

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with. We never once saw him eat (and I worked with him for four years). We'd go out to dinner or lunch as a dept. and he'd just sit there drinking his Coke. He'd have a Coke on his desk from the moment he got in the office to the moment he left.

I kept trying to tell him how bad this was for him but he was hooked big time!

We'd have a Secret Santa at Christmas and he would always get a case of Coke or some Coke merchandise and loved it. He was super skinny and the killer was that he just drank Coke and never ate!

I hope that guy brushes his teeth twice a day because If he doesn't I bet they aren't good.

It may have already rotted his teeth, and he's wearing dentures; maybe, maybe not. There's a chance it didn't bother his teeth. In any case, the guy is 71. I see nothing about it affecting his health. He doesn't drink alcohol, and I have a feeling that he doesn't smoke, but I could be wrong. Some people drink a lot of coffee in the morning, then soda, then booze and butts and whatever else. This Coke thing isn't something I'd want to do, but it works for him and doesn't appear to be harming him. To each their own.

i read somewhere that before they switched to using caffine, coca cola used cocaine or some other drug as an ingredient for making coke.

An old co-worker drank nothing but Dr. Pepper. The work was hard under the hot Texas sun, but as long as he had a sigarette and his Dr. Pepper, he was happy.

Yup, he is like me and I have been drinking Dr. Pepper for 13 years now and now my teeth is very yellow :(

I had a big Dr. Pepper addiction during my high school and college days. One day, I decided to quit cold turkey. I don't even want soda anymore.

Not only that, drinking pop like that can also mess up your kidneys. So this guy is fortunate to be around.

I love the taste of reg Coke but have it maybe 1X a yr. All that sugar. And yes, I've heard that coke is very bad for the teeth. Not surprised. I drink Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper 2-3X a week. But I DO love the taste of an ICE COLD reg coke - I just discipline myself to stay away from it.
