Why is it that bachelorette auctions are considered "sexist" and "degrading" (which I agree with) while bachelor auctions, which I believe have been going on for a little longer, aren't considered "sexist" and "degrading" (which I think they are)? They totally did away with the bachelorette auctions after NOW and a whole bunch of women's groups and feminist organizations rallied, but even when a bunch of men's groups tried to stop bachelor auctions, they still continue.

I've never been to one, but I don't see the problem with either one. The only negative I can think of is how do you know you're not getting set up with a total psycho?

Personally, I think both are pretty dehumanizing. Selling people off like that. Even for a lighthearted joke, or charity. People aren't property. Maybe I'm reading too much into this. I think it's wrong. However, to answer your question, for some reason, people don't think that the degradation of males by the media or society in general is offensive the way female degradation is. Whenever a woman is depicted as weak and helpless, it causes a stir, but whenever they show a man being emasculated, everyone laughs it off. It's just anti-male bias in society. But, still, either way, it's wrong. There are TWO GENDERS out there, PEOPLE!!!!
