Since I feel like a bit of a party pooper for raining on the other thread, thought it might be good if we started another thread, similar, but upbeat! I'll bet we can come up with more famous people who've beaten the disease than who've perished from it (at least in the last 20 years or so). Feel free to post any additional info, such as this person has also started the "ABC Foundation".
Me First! ;)
A celeb that I really love (yes, even her voice!) Fran Drescher!! Beat uterine cancer (that was originally misdiagnosed as endrometriosis btw) and now heads her foundation for early detection, "Cancer Schmancer"

Great thread Cathie! I actually read Cancer Schmanser- really great, funny, uplifting book. I highly recommend it to anyone battling cancer.
Anyway, contributing to the thread- Suzanne Summers right? I know she had breast cancer at one point (2001?) and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have it anymore.

Jaclyn Smith beat breast cancer.
A Red Sox player, Jon Lester, beat lymphoma. He was 21, and it's one of those huge uplifting stories in Boston. It was a big deal when he returned. Not a dry eye in Fenway Park. His family was there. Not long after, he hit a no-hitter.
Another Red Sox player who beat it was veteran player, Mike Lowell. Terrific guy, the greatest.
Farrah Fawcett. Not quite sure where she is in her battle, but I hope she's doing well.

How sad is that? Stats are 1 in 9 women get breast cancer, yet all three Angels got cancer (although Farrah's wasn't breast). What is great is that so far, all three seem to be doing very well. Last I heard, Farrah's still hanging in there in recession with whatever treatments she's on.
The biggest survivor to date so far - Lance Armstrong! And I still wear a yellow rubber bracelet proudly!

Yes, I always thought that was sadly ironic - all three of the original Angels getting cancer. I think Kate had a mastectomy, if I'm not mistaken. Which reminds me, Farrah's on/off love, Ryan O'Neal, is a cancer survivor, too (leukemia).

How could I have forgotten Olivia? She's one of my favorites, and has been a tireless advocate of women's health since then.

Going back further than most here, let's not forget Arthur Godfrey who was diagnosed with cancer in one lung and the aorta in 1964 yet with radiation treatment would survive more than twenty years despite having emphysema from that treatment!

Good one Cat! So often people seem to forget that men can also get breast cancer.
Christina Applegate seems to be doing very well and also took matters into her own hands and had a full mastecomy in order to prevent it from spreading since the gene seems to be in her family. Go Christina!

LOL - actually he really is. Funny though, my opinion has changed about him since seeing him on Dr. Drew's Rehab. Much of his problems are from the brain damage he suffered after that motorcycle accident years ago.
I actually now feel for the guy. He does come across weird, but his heart's in the right place.

Yeah, I remember Montel talking about it several times. As for Christina Applegate, I have come to respect her so much these past few months. She has proved she is brave and strong, despite her own health problems and the death of her boyfriend. God bless her and I hope it only gets better from here!

Good point. He provided entertaining commentary on the DVD of The Buddy Holly Story.
