I been doing some Research and realize that the problems we had 30-35 years ago are alot like toay, For Example

High Unemployment Rate
Slow and failing Economy
A War that shows no end in sight
Gas Crisis
High Shopping Prices

better TV shows, music and funkier fashions
people weren't as down on unemployment because they were too busy gettin high
the economy had better prospects for a turnaround

I don't know...I'd have to ask someone who was old enough to have been dealing with it back then. At least there aren't lines at the gas station; there's plenty of gas, it's just expensive. But damn...I'll take $1.72 over $3+ anyday!

People were much more creative in the '70's than today, plus the music was better (ELO, Rush, Frank Zappa, Ted Nugent, etc.) plus people were experimenting more with everything - people wern't as easily offended or as careful with life as we are today.

Plus, all my favorite '50s TV shows were still on as reruns!!! YAY!!!

I've had the same thought. Although the gas crisis was a lack of it more than high prices. Inflation was crazy that's for sure. The Canadian dollar was higher than the U.S. back then but you still couldn't pay for things with it in the U.S.

The unemployment rate wasn't as bad though. This is more of a depression than a recession we're in. This one is going to be a little worse than the 70s. And as you guys say, at least the music and t.v. was better back then so we had better things to distract us.

I was born in '72, so I just barely remember the late 70s (1976 on). Seems like people were MUCH more layed back then and had more fun. It was an interesting mix of values left from the '50s and the youth movement of the late 60s and early 70's. People weren't so offended or uptight and seemed more willing to listen to each other. Great TV shows, music and movies. For me, the 70s was the Golden Age of sitcoms- seemed like anything was possible back then.

There really isn't a gas crisis now. The price per gallon (about $2.20 where I live) is not unreasonable when inflation is factored in.
And the current unemployment rate (7.6%) is not "high." Some people here weren't around when it was 10% in the early 1980s (as high as 10.8% in late 1982).

LOL I remember when gas prices rose to 50 cents a gallon! I thought that the world was coming to an end!:lol: Before that I could fill up my Chevy Vega for $6.00!:woohoo: And I totally agree! The music and tv was so much better then! I loved the 70's!:D

Yep - I remember hitting the couch cushions to scrape up enough change to buy gas for a Saturday night. We scraped together $1.15 and it was enough to fill the tank for a night of "cruisin' the strip". Much simpiler times for sure!

($1.50 got you into a Saturday matinee movie too).

You are right Cathie! I was 22 when my husband and I drove a silver Vega with red interior and an automatic shift on the floor. (I thought that was cool!) I loved that little car. Now, get this. We bought a brand new 1978 white Corvette for only $8,000.00! After that we went to a Monte Carlo and then a Chevy Chevette. We had 2 of those. My husband worked for GM. Those were the good old days! In the 80's we had a Chevy Cavalier and two Astro Vans. Also a couple of pick-ups. Of all of the numerous vehicles that we have owned I like the Chevy trucks the best! :wave:

The social and and political problems facing the country in 2009 are not all that different than what faced the country in the 1970's.
