Terminator Salvation Producer Defends Bale's 'Rant'
2 February 2009 11:20 PM, PST
An associate producer for the forthcoming Terminator Salvation movie has defended Christian Bale's alleged on-set rant, insisting the actor was a "consummate professional" during filming. A man said to be actor Bale can be heard angrily screaming and using profanity at the movie's director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, for distracting him during shooting by walking into his field of vision.
In the four-minute tirade, Bale reportedly shouts: "I'm trying to do a f**king scene here and I'm going, 'Why the f**k is Shane walking in there? What's he doing there?' Do you understand my mind is not in the scene if you're doing that?"
The man later promises to "kick his f**king ass" before threatening to quit the film unless Hurlbut was fired.
But Bruce Franklin, an assistant director and associate producer on the fourth Terminator film, insists the star was only upset for a short period of time before his "moment" passed.
Franklin tells E! Online, "If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove... It was the most emotional scene in the movie. And for him to get stopped in the middle of it - he is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed."
And Franklin is adamant the rant has only been released to slander Bale, who he worked with on the 2000 movie Shaft: "This was my second movie with Christian, and it has always been a good experience with him. He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise (controversy) about this, but I don't think it's fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it's an art form."
The audio clip, allegedly recorded in July 2008, was obtained by TMZ.com, which claims the film's executives sent the tape to their insurance company in case Bale didn't finish filming the movie.
The 35-year-old actor was arrested in July in London - just days after the recording was said to be taken - over accusations he attacked his mother and sister at the city's Dorchester Hotel before the British premiere of The Dark Knight.

I went from liking Christian Bale in movies such as "Newsies", "Empire of the Sun" (which I watched in History class one year), "Shaft" and "American Psycho", to strongly disliking him after seeing what a total self-absorbed jerk he is. At first, I accepted his eccentricity as being a proffessional actor...then I started seeing him during interviews where he seemed peeved when talking about Heath Ledger...and then hearing about him abusing his mother and sister. Now, after hearing his tirade, I am fully convinced that as talented an actor as he is, he is an egocentric piece-of-$%&@. At least the late Heath Ledger, as depressed as he was, was always a gentleman and a good person. Christian is an all-out a$$#@%&. If he ever pulled anything like that with me, I'd friggin' deck him. Who does he think he is?????

I was in shock, but not too much. He really shouldn't have acted like that.

Unfortunately I don't have speakers right now so I don't know what his tirade was about. I can't find a transcript of it either. :(
Keep it up though and his career will go the way of Val Kilmer's! ;)

Judging by reports and the audio (unfortunately, I do not know how to post an audio link), Christian totally lost his cool when the director of photography walked onset behind Bryce Dallas Howard while filming a scene to check a light, or something. Christian totally started calling the guy out and calling him a not very nice word referring to the male anatomy and kept right on him threatening to "kick his a$$" and "to walk off the set of the DP was still hired". He started in on the director, McG, who apparently didn't witness the guy walking on the set. He then berated the DP for "not knowing how to work with actors", or something.
I think you can find the complete uncensored audio recording on YouTube, or just go on TMZ.
Anyway, it's really intense and there was no call for him to behave that way. He may be the star of the movie, but these people are getting paid to make sure everything is in place...and just because he's the star of the movie, it doesn't give him any right to think he owns the set.

Yep - sounds like he's wanting to screw his career up. He isn't the first actor to think he's God's gift.
Maybe he should speak to some of the ones who've been labelled "difficult to deal with" (i.e. Debra Winger) and see how their careers are no longer being flooded with leading part roles.
I don't find him all that great anyway. Heath stole every scene from him in the last Batman movie without even trying.

I seriously laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes and couldn't breath. But...that's just me.

I wasn't a huge fangirl of him like some women are, but I did find him quite appealing when he was well-dressed in a suit and would watch him just to look ;). Unfortunately I now find him much less appealing because he has made these negative comments. :(

I was half-watching the 10:00 hour of Today show this morning and Kathy Lee likened him to a difficult actress that tried to strangle her director on one occasion, was Debra Winger who she was referring to?

I've heard it on youtube and he seemed pretty pissed off.
As much as I love Christian Bale - especially as Batman, I think he should take a break for a while. I know some actors like to keep busy and work all the time, but he's too busy.

He keeps this crap up and he'll have plenty of time on his hands!!! ;)
You know that Superbowl ad that had Kevin Federline tossing fries at a fast food joint watching a rap on t.v.? All we'll need to know is Christian's size for his new uniform. ;)

I haven't heard the rant online, but I was watching Chelsea Lately last night and they played the rant. What I find kind of strange is he's talking in an American accent when I thought his normal voice is an English accent since he's from the UK. Always when I heard him speak in interviews or what not he talks in an English accent, so if he's being himself when he's ranting why is he speaking like a character? I'm just saying; since it's an AUDIO do we really know it's him.
Not that I really care. I've never been a fan of his, so I could care less whether it's him or not. It was just something I noticed.

I'm not sure about the strangling - have never heard that, but she gave Penny Marshall an ultimatim on the set of A Leage of Their Own when Madonna was hired. She said it was going to be her, or Madonna, so Marshell let her walk off the set and the part went to Geena Davis instead.
I know she and Richard Gere hated each other's guts and Shirley McClean didn't get along with her at all. Anthony Hopkins has hinted about her difficulty, but he's an English gentlemen and wouldn't go further about it.
She's a fabulous actress yes, but it's not like the old days of Marilyn Monroe where you were hired by a studio and protected by them. Actually, even Marilyn got her hide fired from a couple of things and was ready to be fired from Something's Got To Give when she died.

Actually the article I read about it said that this incident happened around the same time as the thing with his mother and sister but is just coming out now. Maybe he has calmed down and was just going thru some crap, but now he's got more damage control to do. Sounds like somebody could be out to get him - why was this leaked so long after?

Co-Star Defends Bale Blow-Out
3 February 2009 11:05 AM, PST
Christian Bale's Terminator Salvation co-star Terry Crews has come to the actor's defence after a taped on-set rant was leaked on the Internet. The Dark Knight star could be heard angrily reprimanding an assistant director for walking onto the set while Bale was shooting a scene.
Furious Bale demanded the crewmember be fired, while hurling abuse and profanity at the careless assistant.
But co-star Crews insists too much is being made of the actor's outburst.
He tells HollyScoop.com, "Anyone can have a bad day... I'd get mad too if I was the number one star in the world and people started to mess with me. He is a class act! He is one of the greatest actors ever.
"I'm vouching for him. I know he's a nice guy. I know he's all about his work."
Bale's angry rant was caught on tape and sent to the insurance company behind Terminator Salvation - just in case the actor decided not to complete the film following the incident.

A lot of people seem to be coming to Bale's defense in this and say he was justified. His co-stars, producers, media commentators, and other stars such as Whoopi Goldberg have given him support.
I noticed that while a lot of fans don't like him for doing this people in "the business" seem to be supporting him.

I always knew about Debra Winger as well. Many other actors/actresses as well. But, sadly, I think when a female movie star throws a tantrum, people always label her as being "difficult to work with", or the dreaded "B" word starts flying around. But when a male movie star does the same thing, he is often defended and praised for it, many thinking he's showing ambition and initiative. Sad, but true. Personally, I think it's wrong for an actor/actress to verbally abuse anyone onset. I think even Cybil Sheppard commented on his rant saying something like how because he's a man and he's this heartthrob everyone's jumping to his defense, but if a woman had done the same thing, she'd be blacklisted from Hollywood. BTW, I love the mash-up...so funny. I don't think Mr. Bale would find it funny, but the laugh's on him, ain't it?

Wrestler Director Backs Bale
5 February 2009 4:15 AM, PST
The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky has defended Christian Bale over a taped on-set rant which was recently leaked on the Internet. The Dark Knight star can be heard launching a foul-mouthed tirade against a crewmember on the set of new movie Terminator Salvation.
But Aronofsky has backed the actor over the outburst and called the four-minute rant, which includes the use of the F-word 35 times, "reasonable".
He says, "I think he was right. I don't think he was out of line. It is a sacred time between action and cut.
"Sets are very, very high-powered places where things go awry all the time and emotions are high. People are out there working really hard and exposing themselves, especially actors, and they need to be protected.
"Although it's never good to lose your temper that bad for obvious reasons, we don't know what scene he was doing. He could have been doing a deeply, deeply intense emotional scene."
