Hey everyone! What sayings or lines have you heard on a sitcom that you say now because of it? IS it "Sit on it" or "Heeey" or even "Hello"?

Good grief, T, for someone your age, you're might ate up with Happy Days...that show was off the air before you were even born! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
But, to answer your question, I'd have to say it would be some things from ALF and Beavis and Butthead. Lots of sayings.....

It really shouldn't matter when someone was born and when the shows were on. I was born in 1987, and L&S was cancelled in 1983, but it's still my favorite show... As for sayings, I don't say many catch phrases from shows, but I'm always quoting from L&S whenever someone says something that reminds me of something one of of the characters once said...

------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

Do you know like EVERY line from L&S? I mean really!!! Sometimes its even pathetic!!!! Just Kidding. I think you are addicted to L&S....Not that I aint addicted to Happy Days but still.

I already KNOW I'm addicted to L&S, ya don't have to tell me... And I would just like to say that it might be pathetic, but it's my life and if I want to spend it memorizing quotes from L&S anad spending my money on eBay buying L&S memorabilia and taping the episodes and taping the movies that have people from L&S on them or were directed by someone from L&S then that is how I'm going to spend it. (Sorry if I sound cranky, but I'm having a bad day)

Don't you worry, LS... *I* still thing you're cool! As a matter of fact, you're probably the coolest person I've ever met on the internet! And you are the *only* person I've ever met on the internet that I am actually envious of! Now, back on topic...

Whenever someone says anything like "I have never seen anything more disgusting than *that*!", I always try to follow up with "Hello!" in my best Squiggy voice. No one ever gets it, but I enjoy it!

I also use "Of course not, don't be rediculous!" and "Smeg Head" on a daily basis. They are a part of my daily vocabulary!

C'mon, LS... you've watched enough sit-coms.. you know what you have to do!

Find the coolest person in school and pay them to hang out with you. At first, the cool person will only hang out with you when forced to do so. But then the longer you hang out, the more that the cool person will like you! Soon, the cool person will be coming over to your house and having you take off your glasses, let your hair down, and wear make-up and cool clothes. Your popularity will grow more and more until you are the most popular person in the school! But then your old geeky friends (that's us on the message board, by the way) will say stuff like "You've changed" and you'll turn your back on us, only to realize that popularity isn't what's most important... it's *real friends* that are important! We'll all hug, learn a valuable lesson, and then Cousin Oliver/Screech/Lenny & Sqiggy/Potzie will say something funny so we can all laugh af the credits roll!

Hmmmm... broke... okay, Let me think. What would a sit-com star do?

Got it.

Convince your favortie teacher to appoint you as a tutor for a really popular guy who is having problems getting a passing grade. It would be helpful if he is involved in some sport, so he has the threat of being cut from the team if he doesn't improve his grades! Once you are tutoring him, he should infuriate you by always cracking jokes and not concentrating. Threaten to leave, and he should start explaining to you that he *really* needs your helps, and he'll do *anything* for you if you can just get him a passing grade.

There's your hook http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Make him agree that if you can get him a passing grade, he has to take you to the big dance (you should ALWAYS be having a "big Dance" in school). Spend every waking moment with him tutoring him, and he will pass the class. However, a few days before the dance, some girl named "Mitzi" is going to ask the guy to take her to the dance. So he's going to try to get out of your date. But don't worry! The guy is going to learn a valuable lesson about respect before the night of the big dance, so go ahead and get all dressed up for it. He'll pich you up at around 8.

Go to the dance, let your hair down, take off the glasses, blah, blah blah... And then everyone realizes how cool you are, and you become popular!

See... I *knew* that television had taught me to deal with any situation!

What if she can't teach him cause she's too busy thinking about L&S and not the work!??!?! Just Kidding. Great Idea though! She will have to get a beautiful gown so the guy will think she's a hottie, and then go to the dance let her hair down take off the glasses yada yada yada. You dig L&S? Will it work? If not I'm sure silentbri can pull somethin else out of his sleeve!!!

::cracking up:: Since when was this the give LS advice board? And I'll have you know T, that in school I force myself to not think about L&S (even though I still don't pay attention), except for lunch and study hall, and occasionally social studies, but that was just last year because I hated the teacher and that class was so incredibly easy for me. The tutoring part might work though, but forget the popularity, I'm goin' for the cash... oh geez. I just realized I only have two more weeks of my precious summer left, and next week I find my doom (in other words, I get my schedule)...

Not THAT good of self control. There are a few times when I started reciting an episode in my head and the teacher called on me. Lucky for me though, if I try I can concentrate on two things at a time and I actually heard the question. And I knew the answer too, which is always a plus... Then there was that time when my study hall teacher (who I hate from the bottom of my heart and will probably have for social studies this year) read the back of my folder (which happened to have L&S quotes on it..hey, I was bored in band one day...) and started cracking up while reading it. Then he asked what it was from and I said "Laverne & Shirley, it's my favorite show" and he's like "That was before your time!!" ::rolling eyes:: Well, DUH, I knew that...

Actually, the gown for the dance would be one that either her mother or grandmother has in a closet in the attic. It will be a tender moment where the two of them bond... LS accepts her mother/grandmother as an actual person who was once a girl just like she is, and the mother/grandmother will finally realize that her little girl is becoming a woman... (*sob*, *Sniffle*)

...Make sure to end the sceene with a joke about "Boobs". Either much larger or much smaller than is required for the dress. A good boob joke can always lighten up an otherwise "deep" bonding sceene http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Uh, we don't have an attic... and I couldn't care less if I bonded with my mother (I know that sounded really bad, but it truly wasn't meant rudely). My family is not what you would call a sensitive group... anyway, something I think I should've said right at the beginning, I hate the school dances and I don't WANT to popular because if I was popular I'd have to talk to a bunch of people and I'm one of those people who never raise their hand in class (except for English) and when I do talk it's so quiet you have to ask me to say it again.. and again... and again... and I'm sure you get the point. Anyway, I think I'll stick to my nice, quiet little self but maybe I'll start talking in class more - one year my teacher thought I was cheating since I didn't look like I was paying attention (which I wasn't, it was boring) but I got straight A's in that class...

But LS... that's *exactly* the type of girl who this type of thing happens to! Don't you ever watch TV? You have to be the shy, quite girl in order for everyone to be shocked when you suddenly become popular! And of COURSE you don't want to bond with your mother... if you *want* to bond with her, then you would have done it in some other way before going to the attic with her! Bonding isn't something you plan on doing, and no one ever really weants to do it.. it just kinda happens!

I remember when N@N stopped showing I Dream Of Genie, and that used to be my favorite show a few years ago. They also stopped showing The Odd Couple. Now Bewitched and Happy Days. What about Laverne and Shirley? I Love Lucy? What if those get cancelled too?

LaverneShirley

There are two parts to a sitcom. One part is the situation, and one part is the comedy (hence the name situation comedy). If you have the same plot everytime, but different comedy, you're going to get bored with the plots and forget about the comedy. You'll think "Well, this one's funny but last night there was an episode just like it on." With shows like Happy Days, they have different plots, and the ones that are similar are spaced out. (I don't know if I'm making sense, but I know what I mean...)

OK, I was a bit hasty about my last remark, but the show *doesn't* have the same plot every time. OK, Lucy does tend to try to get into Rickie's show a lot, but sometimes they have a bet, or try to lose weight, or enter a contest to win money, or have a fight. It's not like it's the same plot in every episode.

I Love Lucy follows the same pattern as your basic "Curious George" childrens book; The situation is introduced, The main character (George or Lucy) reacts to the situation in a way that produces conflict and/or danger, and the situation and conflict are resolved wiht no one having gotten hurt.

3 easy pieces. I think they keep I Love Lucy on N@N because it was the first sit-com to use this formula, and every sit-com since has followed the same patern. Lucy is like a text book of how a sit com should run. But just like most text books, it ultimately becomes boring and stale.

Personally, I always hated Curious George... anyway, I Love Lucy IS a classic, and I'll admit I used to love it. But now that I've ssen every episode a million and one times, it got boring. L&S ang GI never get boring to me just because they're my favorite shows in the entire world and that'll never change (if I can help it), so I know why some people don't get bored with Lucy.
