It won't be on tomorrow like they had planned (they're showing UFC and movie) or at 1 AM in the morning, or on Monday (all week is a CSI marathon).

Enjoy your CSI everybodies!

All next week is CSI?

Okay Spike, you're getting worse than USA with their constant House marathons.

Unless they haven't updated the schedule on their website, I see UM every day next week except for Monday...which makes sense since Monday is a holiday and its typical for networks to run marathons on holidays...

As of now, that's what it says, and DirecTV says UM for Tuesday. But it was SUPPOSED to be on Sunday, and was even in UM's newsletter..it was also supposed to be on Thursday and Friday and we know how that turned out, CSI marathon. So dont be surprised if they cancel next week too or CSI comes on instead

Ummmm...the spike website still shows that UM is on tomorrow (sunday) as well as all of the other days this week (except monday.) Also, UM was NOT on thursday, but it WAS on Friday.

UM was indeed on on Friday, because I remember the last episode had the Michael Scott Martin segment.

Plus earlier in the day they showed the Sammy Wheeler segment but edited it. The Michael Jordan quote, and the quote about Sammy not bathing were 2 that were edited out.

Spike is big with rerunning the ten things that they have repeatedly.

I'm pretty sure UM will be on this Tuesday. Thats what it shows in the guide I use for TV scheduling and have found to be accurate..... which begs the question, Why does a third party publication seem to have more current info about Spike TV show scheduling than Spike? Their webmaster really needs to think about the irony. Either that or post a disclaimer which says info on this site not accurate, please go elsewhere.

No matter what Spike Signed UM to a 5 year contract so although they may cut down on the number of episodes the show will not be totally cancelled.

No UM today, Monday, and my direcTV onscreen guide says that it's coming back on tomorrow at 11:00am EST (until 3:00pm as usual) so you can set your TIVOs and know that when you get home from work, there will be no CSI anywhere in sight! lol

Yep. No UM on this weekend (Sat or Sunday). No Um on at late night like last night, . All 1/26 is CSI:NY and CSI. What's the excuse now? Another holiday? Huh? Waiting for the next lame excuse..

I guess TV shows are like farm animals: They are all equal, but some are more equal than others.

In any case, consistency matters! There is no disputing that. If Spike is genuinely invested in the show, then they have a chance to prove it by airing it consistently.

If Spike doesn't order new shows this is guaranteed to tank because people will get sick of watching the repeats over and over and over.

Exactly!!!!
And I'm sure they have enough new episodes to go around...if not, then maybe at least spread it out over the schedule evenly throughout the week. I love the blocks of UM and all, but I'd rather have a specific and consistent time for the show to air every day of the week, instead of having to guess when it'll be on!!

The point being they're airing the first show again. Not shows we haven't seen. It's on 12-3 PM Eastern M-F. It will not be on all next week - CSI marathon. Maybe not the week after that, or after that too. So unpredictable.

Sad to say, but who cares? Unsolved used to be my favourite show, but Spike has botched the entire thing so badly - from the new show's all-around design to the sketchy scheduling - that I'm not sure I will even bother watching anymore. Can we get Unsolved onto a real network that actually cares about doing it right?

We could, but a better option would be to flood Spike's office with letters. But only physical letters, since they carry a lot more weight than emails.

Spike TV

But they have to start doing new shows otherwise the death of UM on spike is inevitable. You can't keep showing these reruns over and over forever.

As we have said there are TONS and TONS of stories to profile since UM went off the air.

After running for several hours, most days of the week, for most of this month, Unsolved Mysteries is taking a breather. No broadcasts of UM are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, January 26-28. We're not sure yet about the end of the week; we'll do our best to keep you informed.

One has to wonder if they regret selling the show to Spike. I know from articles that, right before Spike acquired the show, other cable networks were offered to carry it (although no specific network names were given).

Why it didn't go to another network is anyone's guess, but there could be a number of explanations. One is that, by the time they were approached about buying the show, some of the cable networks may have already had such a slew of new projects on the way that they had no room for UM (even if they wanted to acquire the show). Another may be that a workable deal just couldn't be reached.

Of course, this is all just speculation.

Didn't HBO first acquire the rights to UM from Lifetime? Then they sold it to Spike. I know I read something about HBO.

How about if it was on HBO? LOL....I don't think many of you would've liked that since that's a pay channel.

The positive is it would've had no commercials but the negative is HBO would've probably demanded high ratings and it may not have lasted long.

Yes and no. Yes, HBO was involved in the acquisition of the show. No, the articles never explicitly said anything about the network actually airing them. It was the network's distribution wing that first acquired the rights. A lot of HBO-produced/distributed programs have included shows that were aired on other networks and never shown on HBO (such as the Fox network '90s sitcom Roc).

True. In fact, because HBO is a premium channel, more than half of all cable subscribers don't have it. As far as I can tell, the intention all along was for UM to air on a cable network that is more widely available. From what I have read, both Lifetime and Spike TV (the show's former and current networks, respectively) are each available to over 80 percent of cable subscribers. (As for the part about a demand for high ratings, that is probably one of the main reasons why the show is unlikely to ever resurface on NBC or anywhere on non-cable primetime.)

TracyLynnS
01-27-2009, 08:10 PM
If UM were to be only available on a cable pay channel, I can tell you right now, that I'd never be able to see another episode on TV. I can barely afford my basic cable, after losing my job in 2007, DH losing his job in the fall of 2006, losing our house that we had put over $100,000 down on, losing all our saving, all while have NO debt (not even a car pmt), cable is an unneccessary luxury.

I've never had a pay channel in my life (I'm 41) and I only got cable tv back in 2000, once DH got a raise at work. Before then, it was rabbit ears and with fancy aluminum foil shapes stretched between them.

I think that's how we orignally got the first UM eppies, on NBC, with rabbit ears, for free....

Internet service is a different situation altogether. MI has a 10 cent per soda/beer bottle/can return policy. I've picked up discarded bottles for 17 years to supplement our income so I can pay for a few luxuries like the internet, trips to amusement parks, and stuff like that. And yes, it's worth it! lol

How the hell is Spike still on the air? Most of their shows are garbage and they have, without a doubt, the WORST website of any TV network I have ever seen.

Every time I get a UM e-mail update from CM, I get the sense that they would like to strangle the Spike people themselves. I bet they do wish that UM was on another network.

How does Spike ever expect to get loyal viewers to follow a show if the schedule is always changing?

I'm starting to think the person at Spike in charge of the schedule is either high or a Schizophrenic. Or both.

You gotta admit than show MANSWERS is pretty cool. I've learned some amazing things on that show and they back it up with physicists and doctors.

If UM can't cut it on free TV then HOW did it manage to stay for so long? You would think a channel like A&E would be good for UM.

Housework and laundry!? The gods would never be so cruel! It's all spike's fault. They're evil!

However... The cleanest rooms in my house are the two with TVs, so I can watch UM while dusting and vacuuming during the commercials. Also, lots of laundry can be folded during the UM marathons. And the bills get paid and the checkbook gets balanced during the commercials...

Seriously, here in MI, it's been 20 degrees and below for weeks and weeks. There's nothing else to do but chores in the house. Without UM as a distraction, housework is pure torture.

Spike = 13-year-old's dream

If people in foreign countries judged American men by what they viewed on Spike, I might want to see this nation fall into the ocean, too.

IMHO, UM is the only shred of decency on that channel. MANSWERS? Seriously? I thought it was made by a junior high AV class. It has to be one of the most sophomoric shows ever made. After they did a segment on how to beat a drug test using an artificial penis, I knew it wasn't for me.

Didn't Spike tv used to be TNN?

Yes. It started off as The Nashville Network in the early '80s. By 2000, the network's country music format was phased out in favor of other programming (including reruns of popular shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation). The channel was then renamed The National Network. It was renamed Spike TV in 2003.

Interestingly, The National Network was among several cable networks that expressed interest in UM back in 2000, when plans were underway to revive the series for first-run cable. In other words, Spike's acquisition of UM in 2007 wasn't the network's first attempt to carry the show.
