Was The Rose with Bette Midler was kind of based on Janis Jopli life story, some fiction I know but, the rest it sure reminds me of Janis Joplin in her drug days.It was sad to see Rose(Bette Milder character (misspelled) to go from playing to millions of people and to be a drug attic which took Janis's life.

he Rose is a 1979 musical-drama film which tells the story of a self-destructive 1960s rock star who struggles to cope with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of her ruthless business manager. The film stars Bette Midler, Alan Bates, Frederic Forrest, Harry Dean Stanton, Barry Primus, and David Keith.
The story is loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin. It was written by Michael Cimino, who went uncredited, and Bo Goldman from a story by Bill Kerby, and directed by Mark Rydell.
The Rose was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Frederic Forrest), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Bette Midler, in her screen debut), Best Film Editing and Best Sound.

I think there are similarities to Janis' life, but ultimately it's not the same story.
Bette Midler's best performance by far.
And eerily, I have a feeling that it was Amy Winehouse's biopic, even tho she wasn't even born when it came out
