makes both shows more appealing and funnier than the Jeffersons? I'm asking because both of those shows have sold very well on DVD and now even have a boxset but the Jeffersons has not sold as well as those two shows or done as well as those wo shows in syndication.
What do you think the Jeffersons is lacking that it can do as well as Good Times and sanford and son?

Absolutely nothing. I've always found The Jeffersons to be much funnier and overall better than both Good Times and Sanford and Son. The characters are much more likeable, IMO, and it seems to hold up a lot better nowdays as well.
I just don't get why SAS and GT have done better in syndication than The Jeffersons. They're good shows, but they're not that good. The Jeffersons had a bigger audience on CBS than probably both shows conbined, yet it seems like it hasn't been as overplayed as the other 2.

Especially with Good Times, and what' more confusing is JAMES was the higlight of Good Times and was only on there for 3 seasons and the show still sold well-lol Unless lots of people thought J.J was the HIGHLIGHT of Good times-lol

I don't see what viewers today like so much more in Good Times and Sanford and Son that they don't like in The Jeffersons. The Jeffersons had the better characters and ratings than both shows. But, maybe it's because Good Times and Sanford and Son were released more quickly than The Jeffersons - people knew that the series would finish quickly on DVD, whereas with The Jeffersons, people never know when to expect another season on DVD.

Can you believe Sherman Hemsley thought when Norman Lear contacted him in 1973 he thought it was to be a additional character on Sanford and son??-lol

That would have been a scream!  My thought is that more people could identify with Sanford and Son and Good Times more so than with The Jeffersons. Sanford and Son may have been about drunks, but they were funny drunks, LOL. I really liked The Jeffersons up until the 5th season. I rerally missed Mother Jeffersons when Ms. Cully passed away. Then George also mellowed with time. As for Good Times, it was about J.J. he always made me laugh, though I do admit season 5 was the weakest season. By season six the show had worn out already, even Florida's return couldn't revive the show.

I think all 3 shows are good but Good Times and Sanford and Son has a More Re-Watachability factor.
I cant think of one classic Jeffersons episode. Lots of classic Good Times episodes and When Fred Sanford gets into it with Aunt Ester it is always a riot!

Good Times is funny and also has something of Importance to say about society.

With Sanford and Son, I personally think that it had more of an adult humor to it. With Good Times it dealt with a lot of things that was happening in society at that time, and those exact same things are still happening today. But GT was about all of those things and it had humor thrown in. With the Jeffersons, I don‘t know, I think it was just an extension of All in the Family but with less social issues, It does have it's funny and serious moments like all of the others shows. They are all in different categories, I wouldn't say that one was better than the other.

The Jeffersons was just as "important" as Good Times was, IMO. It didn't deal with a family living in the ghetto, but who says that's what you need for a successful show in reruns? You'd think a show like The Jeffersons, which didn't deal with the social issues but was a whole lot funnier, would be a lot more successful nowdays, considering it ran almost double the run that both GT and SAS ran.

I think that's the one thing that made he Jeffersons rewatchable to me, not a lot of serious episodes unlike Good Times.

I couldn't agree more. When people watch sitcoms today, they want to laugh - they don't want to cry

The funny thing is its now reverse-lol When All shows were on the air the Jeffersons seemed to have the Mass Appeal due to it's 10 year run while GT and S&S didn't have that big of a audience. But now in syndication and on DVD, both S&S and GT seemed to have the bigger fan base while the Jeffersons is not appealing to that many people.

And there were similar eps on both GT/Jeffersons
1. George and Louise as held up in there Apt and Evans were held up in there Apt
2. Baby Jessica shoots a gun/Micahel shoots a gun
3. Florence was in hospital from Gun Shot and J.J was in hospital from Gun shot
4. Girl Gang rough up George and Boy Gang rough up Michael
5. James was a Yeller and Door Slammer and George was a Yeller and Door Slammer
6. Florida slapped Michael in the face and Louise slapped Lionel in the Face
lol

And I have no idea why. Sanford and Son did good in the ratings, and Good Times only did OKAY, yet they both only ran 6 seasons. The Jeffersons ran 11 seasons and had overall better average ratings.

That's true. I never realized there were so many similarities in storylines between the 2-LOL. I think overall, though, Good Times had a more serious theme to it. It had its funny moments, but I don't see why living in the ghetto is more popular today than living in a "deluxe apartment in the sky".

I don't think that Good Times was SO depressing, it's not as if every episode that was made dealt with serious issue. They had like 6 episodes that were downers. Good Times dealt with a lot of societal issues. You can’t really compare The Jefferson, Good Time and Sanford and Son, they are all great shows but they are very different from each other. That is like trying to compare a Navel Orange to a Tangelo, they’re all good.
