I have been notified that my part-time job at the motel is coming to an end,
and I have three weeks in which to resign and to find another position. I have talked to
my previous employer, the manager at Wal-Mart; and he told me that they
are looking for two greeters. My application is still active and, when I informed him of my dilemma, he said that he would ask the human resources
manager to look at my application and then "go from there," in his words.
Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.

Me too! I'm impressed that your current job gave you so much notice, though. Most places just throw their employees out without a warning-even if it's not a real "firing"! I'm sure you'll find something quickly; and hopefully it will turn out to be an even better experience for you!:)

It's a small chain, not a big franchise. The manager owns two or three other
motels in the area. He said he was willing to "work with me" if I need more
time. He doesn't want me to end up stranded with no income. I have been
there over two years. Just minimum wage but it's better than nothing. In
about ten months, I will be eligible for Social Security. I just need something
to sustain me until then. Before I worked at Wal-Mart, I was employed at
the local hospital for close to twenty years. Another company bought the
hospital and started laying off people. It's all about profit. It's a pity when
companies put profits ahead of people. But that's life.

Good luck. My mom's boss decided to stop her business, so she's out of the job as well. Not fun.

i'm sorry to hear that tv star collector, on the bright side you couldn't have lost your job at a better time. the holiday season is looming upon us and there are jobs galore out there. i was a people greeter myself, something i did part time and got paid $9.50 an hour to just stand there, wave, smile, say "hello" and hand out a smiley sticker. it was easy but you really do brighten a lot of peoples days by simply smiling and acknowledging them. i had my own fan base after a while.
