View Full Version : Have you ever been to a Chiropractor?

Last week, at about 4am, I was watching a local tv show by my city's Chamber of Commerce. Tell me I wasn't desperate, lol. The guest was a Chiropractor. For some reason, I always had a negative opinion of that practice. Yet, this doctor just blew me away. It was if he was talking to me. He said that when he's with a patient, they're the most important person in the room. He said that MRIs, X-Rays and other tests are important, but what matters most to him is how the patient is living their daily life. I live mine in chronic pain.
This doctor has been in practice for 27 years. I'm seeing him next week for my spine and neck issues. I was fearful of having someone work on my neck, but I spoke to him on the phone, told him that I saw his interview, and he explained the process. There's a spinal stimulator machine involved, all sorts of things. He also told me that he also treats patients with Fibromyalgia. Those are my medical conditions. My neck/upper back and the Fibro. Best thing is my insurance covers it! :) Sorry, I didn't mean for this to be so long. I'm hoping that someone can tell me of their experiences with a Chiropractor, good or bad. :)
I hope things go well with you, Janice!

Quite a few people in my family have gone to them over the years and I've heard nothing but good things. I hope your visit turns out just as positive.

Heh... the Google banner at the bottom of the page is showing me results for fibromyalgia and scar-free spine surgery. Just found that amusing. :)
Anyway.
I have apparently inherited back/neck problems from my dad's side of the family. I have no back problems, but I used to go to the chiropractor at least 1-2 times a year to get my back adjusted when I was a kid/teen. The last few chiropractor visits have been because I have neck problems now... They didn't really help, but then the pain went away on its own eventually ("eventually" = around a month).
I had to go to the chiropractor over two weeks ago (before I turned 23) because my neck was hurting so much. Mine helped make my neck not hurt so much, but I was still having pain after that. Before I went, though, it was so bad I wanted to cry. After the visit, the pain finally became a LOT more bearable.

I find them to be quacks. But if it works, use it. Hopefully it will work for you, Janice.

I hope the doctor can help you with your pain. It must be terrible to have to suffer with that! I've never been to a chiropractor before, but I've heard stories... both good and bad.

I'm thinking of asking my doctor if water therapy will work for my balance problems that are caused by my H.S.P.

I just had a appointment with one a month ago. I messed my lower back up and could hardly walk. After he adjusted me, two days later I was fine. I hope your visit goes well. :)

I have never been to one, though I probably should with my back problems. I do hope that you find a good one Janice and that he/she can help you with your pain.

I have been to a few. One helped with my sinuses. One though was really rough. I was sore for 2 weeks after my visit with him. I never went back to him. My latest Chiro was great, plus they give massages. I quit going because even though I had insurance I was paying 80 bucks a week seeing him.

Have you ever thought about trying acupuncture to help you get relief from all the pain you're experiencing?
I've never been to one but my husband has. He had a motorcycle wreck several years ago & it really messed up his shoulder. He went to his regular doctor for awhile but all he was doing was giving him pain medicine for it. So he tried a chiropractor and it really helped him.

I was referred to one after my car accident 2 years ago (I was hit by a truck) as I was in HORRIBLE pain in my lower back that made it difficult to walk, however, I felt that physical therapy was sufficent enough. After a few months with them, I was back to my old self. :)

I had the consultation with the doctor last week, and he told me that my spine was twisted. This is my cervical spine, (my neck). I went for my first visit today, and I loved it. For 20 minutes, I was face down, with some electrodes hooked onto my neck, and covered with all these hot pads. After that, he aligned a few vertebra. He warned me it would hurt. Wow, did it ever. Again, face down, and he has his arms all wrapped together....tells me to take a deep breath, then when I let it out, he comes down on me like a Sumo wrestler, lol. He's a small guy, thank God.
The cracking noises were so loud. My husband heard them from the next room. All I know is that I had one spot that was always sore to the touch, C5/6, and he cracked that sucker back where it belonged. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time. I haven't typed this much in a while. I feel great, and even took less medicine tonight. I think I'm onto something here.
Over the past 18 months, I've seen so many orthorpedic docs, neurologists, a neurosurgeon, physiatrists, rheumatologists, etc. Specialists after specialists. The best doctors in Boston in the best hospitals. Nobody could help me. This doctor can, I think. He cares. He's very compassionate. He wants to make me better, and that's half the battle.

I'm giving that some serious thought. I wish insurance covered it. Still where my doctor practices, they offer it dirt cheap, and my doctor highly recommends it. I think $20 a visit. I'd also like to get a theraputic massage, nice deep tissue massage.
