i know we're only 3 months, 3 days away from christmas this year, and i know you americans also have thanksgiving to contend with as well, but have any of you planned when you're going to christmas shoping hunting for presents and food etc?

i've already drawn a shortlist of what i want to get this year for my family, but i am still going to do some browsing and gift hunting in the next couple of weeks.
and i know, it's not long before we get to the xmas period, time surely flies by so fast!

honestly christmas gifts are for kids. i buy every year because i'm stuck in the cycle of christmas commercialism but theres really no joy in it for me. it gets so competitive. every other second its "what did you get so and so?... oh, really,.... i'll have to get them something else then" i enjoy the traditions and sentiment of the season but not the whole gift giving. i enjoy trimming the tree, looking at its lights, and looking at my nativity scene, listening to christmas music, watching the holiday specials and looking at the houses lit up and decorated yards. if i buy this year it will be only 1 gift per person.

Does anyone really buy gifts anymore?-LOL. I mean, they just seem like a waste of time. Giving gift cards or money is a lot easier. I think this year I'm gonna give my kids money, tell them to buy whatever floats their boat ;) Maybe I'll wrap the money just for the surprise :D

At the end of August, Christmas is the last thing on my mind. I start thinking about christmas at the first of December.

My husband and I love to go to the Tacoma Gift Show that's held at the Tacoma Dome in October every year. I usually buy something for family members there, because most of the stuff that is available to buy is hand made, which is cool.

This year is going to be very cool, because for the first time ever (well for me anyway), we are going out of town for Christmas, so we've agreed not to get each other lots of stuff like we usually do. We're going to San Diego and are staying at the Hotel Del Coronado where "Some Like it Hot" is filmed! I cannot wait!

December.

and I hate buying people gift cards unless it's for something I know would be better if they picked out themselves. There is no joy in shopping for gift cards.

That sounds awesome:)....My financee and I always take a special trip for Christmas too...I have to admit I do my shopping all year long...if I find an awesome deal...I TRY to put it away for the Holidays...but usually end up giving it to the person ahead of time...My Closest friends and I dont do gifts..or just a small little something....we have been doing this since we were 16...we dont buy each other gifts but instead do something for charity in the persons name...like helping out in a soup kitchen or donating food to a food pantry or animal welfare..it really makes us feel good to do something for others.

... Sometimes If I go into stores August-October and I see something I like/or is interesting, or fits what I want to get for somebody, whether it be for a family member or friend, I'll get it. Otherwise, I don't shop until middle of December-right up until Christmas lol. I probably love the season more then most of Xmas Day..

actually, when i go into a store, if i see something that would make a good gift, i'd make a note of it and the price and a couple of weeks later, if it is still on sale, i'd purchase it. i know it is early days but i just want to have a clear idea of what to get for my relatives, and i don't want to do what a lot of people do and wait until november or the last week before christmas to do my shopping because it would be chaotic and there will be people buying things to stock up for christmas day

December.

ditto. i just think they are for people, who either aren't interested in buying gifts for people or have no intention to shell out a couple of pounds or dollars on a gift, that someone might not like afterwards.

if you have an idea of what your parents, friends, relatives like and dislike as christmas presents, then there's no point giving them a gift card.

that's the thing i like about buying presents- it is giving that person something that they really want or have really wanted, which is of worth to them- not giving them some plastic card that has money on it. there's no joy in that. well, that's just me

I do mine throughout the year. As I see something I KNOW someone in particular will like I get it. I HATE HATE HATE shopping during the hol. season as I intensely dislike waiting on lines and massive crowds. Maybe 1/4-1/3 of the time, I give cash/gift cards. My concern with them is that the often don't convey the level of thought that a personal gift does, so I only give cash or gift cards when I think that's what the person would most like to get.

Like Rich, I kinda sorta do my Christmas shopping through the year. Not meaning to, but if I should happen to see something that I think somebody might like, I'll buy it, too. I also hate shopping during the holiday season. People seem to be the rudest that time of year. Good will towards men, my a$$!!

But right now, since it's Sept.1st, to me that starts my favorite time of year. I was at Wal-mart earlier and happened to go down a long aisle that had all the Halloween candy on one side. I got soooo excited because I love Halloween and it'll be here before we know it! It's on Fri. night this year, so it should be rather busy. Can't wait!! So I'm focusing on that and getting my house decorated with autumn stuff!!
