do you make sure the other cars that were there before you go first (wait for your turn, in other words), or do you just go whenever, so long as the coast is clear?
i ask because i was personally taught to do the former and it doesn't seem like many other people abide by that. i find it annoying when i wait while someone goes before me and then the person behind them immediately follows.

I always wait my turn like you should. And if another car pulls up the same time as me, I always motion for them to go ahead cause i'm hardly ever in a hurry. But some people are rude, and they go whenever they please.

the official rule here in Ontario is, first arrived goes first, if 2 cars arrive at the same time facind each other, the car going straight goes before the car turning, if two cars arrive together at an angle from each other, the car onh the RIGHT goes first.......I try to go by those rules, but, often, if theres no other traffic, ill let the other car go first as I'm in no hurry, anyway.

Here in Michigan the driver on your right has the right of way. But usually we proceed by whoever gets to the stop first.

wait my turn & let others who were there before me go ahead of me. unfortunately, a lot of drivers have no patience to wait five seconds & often times cut me.

I usually let everyone go before me. If it's busy, then I'll just wait my turn.
You know, for the longest time, there was one driving situation that absolutely baffled me: What do you do if 4 cars pull up to a 4-way stop at the same time.
One day, several months ago, I ran into this exact same problem. 4 of us got there at the same time. We sat for a second trying to figure out who should go first...since no one could figure it out...I went on across.

The exact same thing happened to me awhile go - there were 4 of us at a 4-way intersection, and oddly we all pulled up at the same time. We sat in our cars for about 5 seconds because no one knew what the hell to do
Usually, though, I'll wait for everyone else to go before I go, because if I got in a car crash, I know my husband would kill me ;)

There is an intersection on my street that leads into an older subdivision and it's terrible because not only are there NO stop signs, the area is known as a speed trap! When you drive toward my house, there is a fence with a big row of shrubs and I ALWAYS stop when I get to the intersection. You never know when someone will come barreling around the corner! I have almost gotten hit many times because of this! I cannot believe there are no stop signs at all! I brought this up at our annual homeowner's meeting and they said that the city won't do anything until there is an accident at the site! How stupid is that!?!

I really really do not like 4 way stops, but.... when I do get to one I go by whoever is there first and then wait my turn. If I get there the same time as someone usually one of us just motions the other to go. I hate when you motion for them to go, then THEY motion to you and it just goes back and forth and seems to take forever!
