Well, I've been thinking about the Army for a while now. I have several friends who've joined and it's changed their lives, they love it. I think I'll really enjoy it. :)

I wouldn't mind joining... It'd give me structure and a rigid schedule in my life again. Plus you get to go overseas when you go on active duty. Sigh... Guy friend of mine was in the NG for a few years (honorably discharged now; he has really bad degenerative spine problems from an injury he sustained when he was on active duty in Germany in '05 and '06) and he talked about it a lot. Unfortunately the biggest reason I can't join is no hearing at all... bummer. Oh well. Also I seem to be developing joint problems, thanks to my dad's side of the family. I developed a bad knee at 21 and now I seem to be developing a bad neck (I was informed tonight that my dad's sister and his mom both have really bad neck problems, and the rest of my dad's brothers -- except my dad!! -- have really bad back problems). :(
Kick some ass, Lauren! And good luck! :)

that's GREAT, Lauren! Good luck with it!
In answer to your question, though, no I never have. My older brother was in the navy though, back in the 70s.
Hope you're still able to keep in touch with all of us hon!

Yes, I was in the Navy for a few years. Good luck Lauren, basic training can be a killer for a variety of reasons, but once you complete it, there is no better feeling.

I remember you telling me about that, the Navy is cool :)
I have to lose a little weight before I can start basic, lucky me  LOL, but hopefully I'll be ready by October.
As you all know, my cousin Jamie was in the Army and was killed in Iraq last April. He always encouraged me to join up and I used to tease him that he only wanted me to join because he would get a bonus. I know me joining would mean a lot to him. :)
And Allison, you may not be able to join the Army because of your hearing, but you're still the coolest ****in chick I know! ;) :D

That takes a lot of guts Laura! Best of luck and hope you will still be able to join us during training etc. and afterwards. Keep your head up and go in there, feeling good!
This goes for me too! You certainly are brave for joining the military. I always thought it would be kind of a scary thing to do!

The worst part of boot camp, I think, is all the lack of sleep that you get. lol

 I'd have NO problem with that part. I'm lucky if I get 5 hours of sleep AND feel good.

Can I just say this about the military? I feel their recruting ads are very misleading. In all of them they say "YOURE GOING TO GET TO SHOOT PEOPLE!!1" and it's not true for 98% of the people who join. My dad joined 20 years ago and he's never shot a single person. He has a desk job.

Good luck, Lauren. Even though I don't agree with the current war with Iraq, I have nothing but respect for people in the military. They make the world safe for us. You should be really proud of yourself. My grandfather was in the Marines during World War II, my father and uncle were both in Vietnam and my mom has two cousins who are career navel officers. When I was a senior in high school I wanted to be in the Mariens but do to a problem with my back I failed the physical.
