Ruth Cohen, who appeared in more episodes of "Seinfeld" than anyone except the main stars, died Aug. 23 of a heart attack in Panaorma City, Calif. She was 78.
Her character on "Seinfeld," the cashier at the Monk's Café, was known by her real name, Ruthie Cohen, and appeared in nearly every episode of the long-running series.
Born in the Bronx, Cohen began acting in the 1980s after raising two children, starting as an extra for shows including "Murder She Wrote" and "Golden Girls."
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills.
She is survived by a son, a daughter and two grandchildren.

Oh my gosh that's sad! I hate to say that I never really noticed her presence, but I do remember a cashier! I'm in the middle of watching every Seinfeld eppy (tough job... but somebody's gotta do it!), so I'll be sure and look for her!

I think her most memorable appearance was in "The Gum" episode from Season 7. She really didn't have a lot of lines, but she had a couple of hilarious scenes with George.

RIP Ruthie! :(
Sad news. I liked how they would point her out on the DVD commentaries. I didn't know she had been in that many episodes.

I just watched the episode where George thinks she stole his 20 dollars and then sees her on the horse and trying to take his spot, it is my favorite episode. RIP.

No, it's when Lloyd Braun was in an institute and then he tries to get Jerry the Chinese gum and the woman who was George's neighbor thinks he is crazy because he keeps blaming Lloyd for everything and Jerry wears glasses because Elaine didn't want to sit with him in the movie and then can't see George and he then wears the Henry the 8th costume lol
