View Full Version : I just called MPI about the short Color Honeymooners sketches...not good.

I just called MPI and asked them if they were ever going to release the short color sketches that don't air on TV. The woman I spoke to said they are not sure if they have the rights to them and they have NO HONEYMOONERS releases for this year.

I guess that in order to get them, it's time to look for tape traders.

Good thing they hired that historian, huh? It doesn't make sense to me how they managed to secure the rights to an obscure sketch like "Women's Lib," yet they don't even know if they have the rights to sketches that are part of the series they're releasing. And I guess this means that Lost Episodes re-release isn't happening anytime soon either. You just gotta love the treatment The Honeymooners has gotten on DVD over the years...three incomplete sets, two of which weren't released in chronological order. Hopefully one day an actual fan of the show will be put in the position to release this material the way it deserves to be.

The goldmine of shows that both the Gleason Estate and MPI sits on is mindblowing. Maybe this information and discussion of shows needs to be brought up at the Gleason forum on the new website? Maybe then someone and will read it and see that there is a demand for more of these shows?

I posted my list of "Still Lost" sketches from the 50's on that board not too long ago, but unfortunately there seems to be just as much activity over there as there is here.

It would be great if this place became active again with all the regular posters from before! It was fun at that time to post here.

My concern is that there have been previous lulls in postings just because there was nothing happening for us to discuss. However, we are in the midst of the DVD release of the 60s shows and not much has been said. Granted, they were previously shown on American Life, but we are now seeing the full shows with original openings and dance numbers. I thought at least there would be some comments about moments missing from AmericanLife that are on the DVDs. There doesn't even seem to be much enthusiasm for the 1973Women's Lib sketch coming on the fourth set. Maybe it's the summer lull and we'll see the regulars return when colder weather arrives. For the record, I check here regularly and sometimes it's just Frank's daily posts (for which I thank him). I can actually hear the crickets when I log in here.

I've been so busy this summer with the death of my grandfather and other things that I check in and make small postings, but almost all things have come to a standstill in my life except for work and a few other important things. Things seem to have calmed down, though, and hopefully by the end of September be back to normal.

Has anyone seen the new Color Honeymooners DVD? How is the bonus material??? I need to order one soon! :)

I agree about it being quiet here.....I posted some review info regarding collection 4 two weeks before its release and no responses.....it was in the review thread so I'm reprinting here......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a few corrections to your review.... regarding unaired episodes on American Life cable....."The World of Ed Norton" never aired but the other unreleased on DVD episode "Life Upon A Wicked Stage" airs in regular rotation on American Life. secondly the first set did contain an extra, "The Gleason Express" a film of jackie's famous florida train trip and the 4th set contains the mentioned terrific extras...so MPI had extras on two of the 4 sets....your quote was "after all those sets without extras", so just to clarify 50% of the released sets had extras....a way better track record than other companies like sony and paramount....MPI has done a terrific and timely job of releasing the color honeymooners which couldn't really be profitable for them, but they are a company who cares about quality over quanity and profit....kudos to them! BTW...I received my 4th set early and watched the extra's and the 1973 sketch, though not really hysterical, is a joy to have and quite historical...here's hoping we will see the 1976 reunions some day officially released by MPI!
