Rosie O'Donnell almost landed in our living room on a daily basis as Jerry Seinfeld's female best friend, Elaine Benes, on "Seinfeld," the character Julia Louis-Dreyfus nailed.

That would have to go down as one of the worst casting decisions ever if it had actually happened.

oh my word. i wonder if anyone would post a picture of the cast but with rosie's head super imposed on julia louis dreyfus's body. in fact, the thought of it makes me want to hurl. not because she is fat but because she is an obnoxious person puke:

My sentiments exactly!!! Plus Julia Louis-Dreyfus was so perfect in the role I can't even imagine anyone else in the role of Elaine.

Oh my GOD! That makes me completely sick to even think about Rosie O'Donnell as Elaine?puke:

I know what would have happened had she joined the cast; you'd have three normal (well as normal as Jerry, Kramer and George can be!) characters and one loud obnoxious one. I can tolerate watching "Rosanne" but Rosanne's obnxiousness and loudness ruins that show for me. Same with "The Nanny". I have only watched one part of one episode and that was only because the late Stanley Kammel (of "Monk") was in a guest spot that lasted about five minutes. Otherwise I cannot stand that show!

Rosie would have been completely out of place on "Seinfeld" . Can you picture her with Patrick Muldoon (David Puddy), or even making out with Jerry... well, anyone really? :barf:

I read that the "fab foresome" had a wonderful friendship and working relationship during the show and I seriously doubt that this would have happened had Rosie been cast as Elaine. I can see a mid-series recast happening a mile away!

UGH! Now I'll have to go watch some "Seinfeld" so I can see the "real" Elaine and get that image of Rosie O'Donnell out of my head!

I read that they are all still friends, and I think that's great. The whole cast - supporting and recurring characters - had awesome chemistry.

That's probably what helped to make the show so successful. They all loved each other and loved what they were doing. I was looking through this book about the last episode called "Sein-Off... The Final Days of Seinfeld" and they had pictures of the cast after they finished taping. It made me teary-eyed, really. Julia Louis Dreyfus was visibly upset and they showed them hugging each other. I would have lost if if they would have shown Jerry in tears. There was a picture with Jerry Stiller (Frank Costanza) and he was crying.

Never thought I'd cry reading a Seinfeld book! :crybaby:

^ I thought you'd enjoy that! "I really love y - United Airlines." Uh-huh. Hey, if Jerry and Elaine ever DID marry, would "Shining Star" be their first dance as a married couple??

Now that dance I would LOVE to see! Oh, and they'd have to call each other "Shmoopy"!

I don't know. I'm one of those people who doesn't believe everything they read. Although Rosie wasn't fat back then, she was never a beauty, and I think they wanted someone hot and sexy looking in that role. It added to the sexual tension between her and Jerry, her never-ending dating....Rosie O'Donnell was never suited for that role, but you never know, lol.

^ I see your point, Janice. In any case, I think we can all agree that it's a VERY good thing that JDL was cast. I just can't picture anyone playing the role as perfectly as she did.

Yes, I could see Patty Heaton playing Elaine, now that I think of it - but I still prefer JDL. :D
