I think I am still in shock...no I know I am still in shock b/c I have been babbling the last few hours and I have not this award go out of my site since I got it.
I was giving an award at my company's annual Admin Conference meeting as the 2007 Rookie of the year. Last years conference was my first conference and this is my second. I didn't even know the company gave out awards for rookie of the year because there were no new managers in 06 so no award in 07 my first year. I didn't even know I was nominated until the V.P. announced my name. I was the only female last year in the group of rookies so as soon as Brac (the V.P.) said she I knew it was me.
No I lied, when he started describing the circumstances of the project in El Paso I was on (it was supposed to be 4-6 months 50 people max, I came home 13 months later after having 357 employees and buying over $4 million in material) When he said that he was approched about a project lasting 4-6 months my mind started screaming OMG OMG OMG over and over. Brac went on to explain that the client said since it was only lasting 4-6 months we wouldn't need a cost controls nor project controls person, we wouldn't need full blown Oracle etc...I went into shock because I know he was talking about me. When Brac finally said "she" most of the other people figured it was me as well because I was the only new female manager last year.
When Brac finally announced my name and I went up to get my award (of course I was at a table at the back of the room) I thanked him for giving me the opportunity. Well, Brac was wearing a wireless mic. He shook my hand and said, "Your welcome, you deserve it. And I am SO sorry" Everybody busted up laughing.
The way the project went down, a person with alot more experience then me should have had that job. I had to learn on the fly and get good VERY quickly. All the other managers had heard some of the horror stories and had asked me if they were true and I could tell them in all honestly that no, it was alot worse then they had heard. So that is why Brac appologized.
Anyway, I need to get to bed pretty soon because I am to meet the other managers downstairs in about 6.5 hours to start off tommorrows day. Hope everybody has a great week.
