The High: the 2 Drew Carey airings (YES!!), which is a good sign the show will still be around for the fall as previously planned.

The Low: just look at the schedule

Flash Gordon: The Series is a 2007 TV series. Not to be confused with the classic 1980 movie.

RHI Entertainment's Flash Gordon and The 10th Kingdom to Air on ION Television Friday Nights Beginning August 1

WEST PALM BEACH, FL., WEDNESDAY, JULY 23, 2008 -- RHI Entertainment, a leading developer, producer and distributor of made-for-television movies, miniseries, and other television programming, announced today that two of its most popular productions will be seen on the ION Television Network’s RHI Movie Weekend beginning Friday, August 1 (7/6c). Flash Gordon, a 22-hour adventure series, and The 10th Kingdom, a 10-hour fantasy saga, will be featured weekly in a two-hour Friday evening programming block. The special broadcasts begin August 1 with Episodes 1 and 2 of Flash Gordon. Starting August 8, ION Television will pair one hour of Flash Gordon with one hour of The 10th Kingdom each week.

RHI’s Flash Gordon is a 21st century retelling of the epic intergalactic adventure first introduced in comic strip form in 1934 by legendary comic artist Alex Raymond. Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, Flash Gordon chronicles the adventures of Flash (Eric Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden (Gina Holden) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Jody Racicot) as they find themselves battling the forces of the merciless dictator Ming (John Ralston). Flash Gordon is distributed internationally by King Features Syndicate.

Flash Gordon scored with viewers when it originally aired on SCI FI Channel in the summer of 2007, delivering the network’s best series premiere telecast for 2007. Flash Gordon is produced by Reunion Pictures. The producers are Matthew O’Connor and Tom Rowe.

John Larroquette, Kimberly Williams, Ann Margret, Rutger Hauer, Camryn Manheim, Ed O’Neil, and Dianne Wiest are among the Emmy, Oscar and Golden Globe-winning talent headlining an all-star cast in The 10th Kingdom, a 10-hour miniseries that premiered on NBC in February 2000. The upcoming broadcast on ION Television marks the first time the series has ever been seen in one-hour segments in the U.S.

In The 10th Kingdom, Virginia (Father of the Bride and According to Jim’s Kimberly Williams) befriends a stray dog (Scott Cohen, who turns out to be a prince) on her way to work as a waitress in a New York restaurant. Suddenly, she and her father (John Larroquette, Night Court) are transported via magic mirror from the 10th kingdom (better known to us as New York City) to the fabulous fairy-tale world, the Land of the Nine Kingdoms. In this alternate dimension, the evil Queen (Dianne Wiest) has escaped from the Snow White Memorial Prison and is trying to usurp Prince Wendell’s (Daniel Lapaine) throne. Soon enough, father and daughter are being chased by the Troll King (Ed O’Neill, Married...with Children), his good-for-nothing offspring and the Queen’s devilish Huntsman (Rutger Hauer).

Filmed over a seven-month period in England, Austria, Germany, France and at London’s fabled Pinewood Studios, The 10th Kingdom is directed by David Carson (Star Trek) and Herbert Wise (I, Claudius). The 10th Kingdom is written by Simon Moore, whose credits include the multiple Emmy-winning Gulliver’s Travels. Serving as producers are Jane Prowse, Simon Moore and Brian Eastman.

Both Flash Gordon and The 10th Kingdom are executive produced by RHI’s Robert Halmi, Sr. and Robert Halmi, Jr.

“We are extremely proud of both of these projects and we are delighted that they will be seen this summer on ION Television,” said Robert Halmi, Jr., President and CEO of RHI Entertainment. “We know that the many fans of both will be delighted to see them again while, at the same time, we also expect new audiences to tune in and discover them for the first time.”

“One of the great hallmarks of RHI’s programming is its timelessness and its repeatability,” said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, ION Media Networks. “Both of these series have captured the imaginations of viewers, and they remain just as captivating now.”

I don't get why the only 2 sitcoms on their lineup have to be black sitcoms - I know they had the deal with the African American block, but if they're going to do that, they should have other sitcoms as well.

They are going absolutely nowhere with their current lineup. Obviously something is pulling the rest of the lineup down - or, every show that's airing is getting dismal ratings. I think we're going to see some changes come September.

Well, it's either Quantum Leap, ER, or The Dead Zone bringing it down. On high weeks I think it's probably a good movie or a premiere bringing them up.

I say QL and TDZ are bombing out. Even though the ER marathon bombed, I would think it is doing OK. What do you think Pavan?

I agree - their Mon-Wed lineup has to bombing out pretty badly, and the movies are hit and miss. If the movie's uninteresting, ratings are down. If a good movie is on, ratings are up. Come fall, the Thursday movies will be gone, which is a good thing IMO. I personally think either an airing each of Harvey and Cooper will be gone, with maybe a new sitcom coming in. I'm not sure if Drew Carey will stick around - they could decide to go with two MASH episodes instead at 6pm.

I'm also thinking Quantum Leap will be gone. I don't think Dead Zone will do that well, either.

Pavan
08-06-2008, 02:25 PM
Well it is only summer, where viewership is down everywhere. I don't think they will make drastic changes to the lineup in September. Remember, the regular line-up is only Mon-Wed right now in primetime. It could be the RHI movies or Thursday movies dragging them down. I know those RHI movies skew so old.

If things don't pick up in mid-September or early October, when viewership would rise, then it is not good...but right now they are pretty consistent each week, which is not terrible. It's not up and down like in April or May when it would go up by a lot one week and drop big the next week.

ION's primetime ratings for week of July 28-August 4: 0.3/0 HH and 360,000 viewers.

It might have been me.

This week last year:

ION, July 29-August 5, 2007: 0.5HH/1%, 700,000 viewers, 0.2 A18-49

Most troubling for ION is the dramatic fall-off in the young adult demographic:

last summer -> 220,000 A18-49 viewers (0.2/1%)
this summer -> 90,000 A18-49 viewers (0.1/0%)

ION needs to get Mama back in the line-up ASAP!

Pavan

They need to get rid of the Thursday movie I think, that really confuses people on their weekday line-up. I know they are obligated to RHI, but that stuff is very old skewing.

Ion has put a new bug at the bottom of the screen.

"NEW LOOK. NEW SHOWS. POSITIVELY ENTERTAINING".

There is an orange circle to the left that alternates between "+" and the days remaining until the lineup change (30 days as of now).

Oh boy, I can't wait. No really, I can't. <cough>

Last year had this time had Mama, Who's the Boss?, and The Wonder Years (IMO, their best 3 hours to date) getting that 700,000 for them. When they switch to entirely dramas in primetime (and that movie), ratings slip DRASTICALLY. I know it's only summer, Pavan, but it still slipped hugely from last summer.

And Pavan, what happened to your interview with that? Wasn't that supposed to come a couple months ago?-LOL

I'm just hoping that they show the final season of Steve Harvey this time. The last time, they skipped it and started up with season 1 again. Some cool things happen in the last season that I know about and would love to see. If ION pulls that again, I'll switch over to BET to see if they air the final season, (season 6).

I know, it's maddening. Right now, they're on season 4. What ION did a couple of months ago was air right up to the last episode of season 5. Then, they skipped the final season 6, and began airing them all over again from season 1. I want to see season 6.

No clue, Julie. I almost cried, lol. The thing is, I'm watching the entire series for the first time. It's a great show. I'll be catching up soon to where I started. I watch two episodes a day. I believe the RHI deal started in Summer 2007 and it is a two-year deal, so it expires next summer. Check my previous post on this for more accurate details (I think 60s70s80stvfan asked me onc ebefore and I gave the full details).

???????? 310,000 viewers? That is just pathetic compared to 700,000 last summer (and they were airing the movies from RHI then too). If the Thursday movie was doing that bad, they could remove it and air the regular schedule in no time. So we can't really blame the bad ratings on that. One would wonder what the ratings would be if they did that. I think the whole network is just in a state of depression. We all know (and they probably do, too) that they need to go back to their old format. Maybe it will work come fall, but as of now, this just isn't working.

Sounds to me that Mama needs to re-claim the 8PM slot.

Come September, wouldn't you just love to see them go back to Mama-WTB-Wonder Years in primetime? That would really be the day

I agree, though. That is way too pathetic for high quality and expensive shows like ER and The Dead Zone to be pulling in numbers like that, and its obviously those shows that are bringing the rati how much promotion they've gotten already, they're just too embarassed to ditch them for Mama's Family.

clj2

They need to slowly phase this line-up out and go back to the old one. Primetime in October could look like this:

6:00PM Quantum Leap
7:00PM Family Feud 2x
8:00PM M*A*S*H 2x
9:00PM Boston Legal
10:00PM ER

then November

6:00PM Quantum Leap
7:00PM Family Feud 2x
8:00PM Mama's Family 2x
9:00PM M*A*S*H 2x
10:00PM Boston Legal

December

6:00PM Quantum Leap
7:00PM Family Feud 2x
8:00PM Mama's Family 2x
9:00PM The Wonder Years 2x
10:00PM M*A*S*H 2x

I don't know what I would do with the afternoon schedule - maybe air Quantum Leap at 6PM for the first month or so (since its an older show that's been airing, it sort of fits better), and ER/Dead Zone could air on weekends. At first, maybe one of the black sitcom blocks could stay and they could bring Who's the Boss? or The Wonder Years back in for afternoons at first. It would be an odd transition back to the old format. Just daydreaming.

JulieSomoski
08-13-2008, 06:29 PM
How much better do they think Boston Legal is going to do in primetime? Theys hould have learned from their current lineup that the dramas just aren't working. Their loyal viewers are the ones who would rather watch Who's the Boss, or The Wonder Years, or Designing Women in primetime, and not overhyped dramas like ER and Boston Legal.

Hopefully Quantum Leap will be gone come September. They said it would still be there, but I'm thinking it'll be gone. If they were keeping the same fall lineup they announced earlier, I think they would have announced it by now.

Pavan
08-13-2008, 07:36 PM
What about 4-6PM, 60s70s80stvfan? I think the best way to get classic TV back is in the daytime and we are getting another hour in the fall. Trust me, they will not phase out this stuff for classic programs in primetime again. Boston Legal and Criminal Minds will likely do very well for them, I think.

I'm hoping by the end of the year it'll be like this with 3PM & 11PM added:

Mon-Fri
3:00PM Silver Spoons
3:30PM The Facts of Life
4:00PM Perfect Strangers
4:30PM The Wonder Years
5:00PM Growing Pains
5:30PM Who's the Boss?
6:00PM Hangin' with Mr. Cooper
6:30PM The Steve Harvey Show / Amen

Mon-Thurs
7:00PM Mama's Family
7:30PM Family Feud
8:00PM M*A*S*H
8:30PM M*A*S*H
9:00PM Boston Legal
10:00PM ER (Mon-Wed); Drew Carey 2x (Thurs)
11:00PM The Drew Carey Show
11:30PM Mama's Family

Fridays
7-11PM RHI
11:00PM Mama' Family
11:30PM Mama's Family

Sat-Sun
(with 4-6PM added)
4:00PM Quantum Leap
5:00PM The Dead Zone
6:00PM Baywatch

Pavan, I love your schedule! They should definitely add on the 11pm hour, because it makes no sense to end at 11pm. They probably will do a classic block in the afternoon, and I love yours. I'm sure Mama will come back eventually, and it probably won't be in the 8pm-11pm hours like you said.

I love the idea of Drew Carey and Mama's Family at 11pm as well - I just hope that Drew Carey is still on in the fall period. I think Boston Legal will do better than ER, but I still don't think it'll be a hit. MASH will probably do very well.

Well, this is interesting. Carol Burnett & Friends is scheduled to air on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 3PM on ION. And no I don't mean that Comcast or DirecTV stuff. Is it listed on any of your listings, too?

Here on Time Warner of NJ I have "Look Thinner Instantly" listed for that time.....I would never believe ION would ever run Carol Burnett & Friends on a sunday afternoon, if anything they would run the infomercial advertising dvd's of carol burnett.

It doesn't say it'll be airing on their website - maybe it's an informercial for a Carol Burnet product. I'd be ecstatic if they were airing it, though - no matter where I am, I'll definitely turn on ION Sunday at 3pm to check what's on.

Mine says "Paid Programming" from noon until 5PM, with the exception of "Houses for $300" at 3pm. I agree that its probably an informercial for the DVD.

Well listings won't reflect it until tomorrow or Wednesday, because the change was made at 4:30pm ET today, I see. Hoping for the best, but it is possible it is a Carl Burnett infomericial.

It's good to see Carol Burnett and Friends coming on at 2:00 pm CT Time it has been a long time since I seen Curnett and Friends on TV The last time I saw Carol Burnett and Friends was on WTBS-17 weeknight's at 5:05 pm CT Time.

Aaron, read what we just said. We don't know what it is, it could be just an infomercial selling Carol Burnett products. And it is not every Sunday, just this Sunday. It's not on any of ION's highlights or anything, so it isn't an ION show.

And Carol Burnett & Friends was on USA and TV Land way after TBS.

searching google, I found these demos for ION primetime last night, which are just absolutely horrendous. These are the demos from the top 20 markets - I'm not sure what total viewers were, but they were obviously extremely low. I found this list at pifeedback.com:

8:00 ION Quantum leap
9:00 ION Dead Zone
10:00 ION ER

I find it very interesting how one show does better than the others in 1 market, but drowns in a different market. Some shows couldn't even manage a tenth of a point in some markets, hence the 0.0 rating some got. If you average the numbers, here are the final household demos for the 3 shows:

Quantum Leap - 0.2/ 0
Dead Zone - 0.3/ 0
ER - 0.3/ 0

Those numbers are absolutely pathetic. What would that even average out to in total viewers? If this is what ION's getting with these shows every Monday-Wednesday, no wonder 2/3 are getting pulled. It must be the movies that pull them up.

Can't tell the total viewers unless we have the HH numbers. Demos is just 18-49. And this list is just the top 20 markets.

According to pifeedback, these are the household numbers and NOT the 12-49 or whatever demos.

You said demos in the original post, though...but it seems they are HH/share's:
http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63310451/m/595101551?r=268101551#268101551

Then it seems the shows are doing just about what they are averaging for the week 350,000 viewers or so (top 20 markets atleast). And those are not final numbers, just overnights.

Then it seems the shows are doing just about what they are averaging for the week 350,000 or so.

If that's the case, then the movies don't seem to push the ratings up or down - I'm sure the entire network averages about the same thing.

I wish ION would have continued to release those daily ratings like they were late December. They did it for a week then stopped-LOL

Damn it, Pavan, I forgot all about that-LOL. I was really adamant in seeing what was on, too - if it really was Carol Burnet and Friends, we really missed out. I hope someone caught what was on.
