View Full Version : Does Anyone Else Think There Are Plenty Of Other Shows That Should To Be On TV LAND?

I don't know if it is just me but TV LAND sucks now. They seem to be catering to the reality show crowd now and it's idiotic. There are plenty of other older shows out there that should be aired:
Charlie's Angels
The Untouchables
Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
Highway to Heaven
Kung Fu and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues
Family
The Streets of San Franciso

I agree it's over, TV Land doesn't even deserve wish lists anymore, it's like asking MTV & VH-1 to go back and play music videos 24 hours a day...its a Viacom owned network and if they have a business model at all, it is to stray from the their original premises for their networks without having the guts to change their name because if it is one thing their good at is branding name recognition but not formats. What I will never understand is the missed opportunities for other networks to start a 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's classic TV channels, this would be perfect for the Encore Group, they practically do it with their westerns channel, they run rifleman, big valley, etc. and speaking of missed opportunities....where is a talk show channel?, running classics like Mike Douglas, Merv, Dinah, Johnny, Letterman, Davidson, etc.

It's not even a home for classic TV anymore... :(
The gems that they do have like I Love Lucy and The Jeffersons and the Brady Bunch, etc. all air at odd times...I mean come on, The Brady Bunch at 4:30 a.m.??? And the stuff that does air in primetime is like that stupid knockoff of Top Model- She's Got the Look (Sorry if anyone is a fan)! I am sure the show's great, I just don't think that's a network that should be airing it. What about WE or Oxygen??
Nonetheless, TV Land and N@N are not what they used to be AT ALL!!!

You know I love you king....lol....but that's not the point.....TV Land shouldn't run movies, Cinemax doesn't run "I Love Lucy", if they want to run movies call it MovieLand and the same with reality shows, or call it Realityland. Viacom brands a channel with a name, changes formats and doesn't have the guts to rename the channel.....at least court became, trutv, etc, etc. MTV means Music Television....no longer true.....VH1 means Video Hits 1....no longer true..........obviously any ratings they garner from new stuff yes will be much greater than a rating for a 50 year old episode of I love Lucy but they started the channel and knew ratings for classic TV can't compare to new stuff.....but are we really suppose to accept that in a 1000+ channel universe there is really no room for a channel that caters to classic TV anymore? I used the expression in another thread that todays cable networks are "monkey see, monkey do"......I mean now sarcastically we really need channels to show more of "That 70's Show", "Roseanne", "Hangin With Mr. Cooper", Saved By The Bell, Mash, the list goes on and on........................now someone will post next I really love "That 70's Show"..........lol...........good watch it 12 times a day and buy all the dvd's while our television heritage of classic TV disappears. So I'll continue to collect and buy DVD's and run my fantasy station in my home where "Ozzie & Harriet" and similar shows glow from my non-plasma, non LCD screen daily and nightly!

A genius? I think not. Not when reality programming has been around since the beginning of THE REAL WORLD on MTV. And that began in 1992. Sixteen years ago. They are a moron for losing millions of viewers who have been loyal to their station for years.

I've said it before; but in case some people didn't see it I'll say it again: TV LAND says they were losing money by showing 100% classic programing.
But, the (sort of) good news is-they do read all the complaints about them on here and other sites, and every once in a while act on them. Unfortunately, it's just every once in a while. But, just the fact that they've brought back "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and "HOGANS HEROES" is proof of that. Unfortunately, they shred them to ribbons, though.

TV Land reminds me of the public transportation system in Philly, it's the only one in the city and they know they can do whatever they want because there buses and trains are the only ways for people without cars to get around
Just like in TV land's case, they know it's no other cable station like theirs and know they can change and switch up as often as they like because it's no other station they are competing with like how MSNBC is Competing with CNN.

That's the thing that gives me hope. Just when it seems like they're trying to be all movies and all original programming, they add stuff like "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Hogan's Heroes," and not only that, but they also air them in good timeslots everyday. "Mad About You" and "Just Shoot Me" have quickly disappeared to middle-of-the-night timeslots, so it's obvious that the 1960s stuff is doing better for them than the 1990s stuff. I just don't get it.

Uh, no. A) I have the whole series on DVD. B) I'm not that into that show. C) The only time I bother with anything on television anymore is if it runs on Encore, which airs shows commercial free and complete or on American Life.
Everything on TV Land is BBB (Butchered Beyond Belief). So, what difference does it make what they air if it's missing 20% of the show? Would you care about getting a book with 20% of the pages missing?
Unlike most people, I don't rely on what crap gets aired in 2008. I got what I wanted in the 80s when you could still get shows off-air uncut and with no bugs on the screen. Even when you had to take something cut, like on USA network, it wasn't that bad, maybe 46 minutes for an hour show. Now, they cut hour shows to under 44 minutes.
