Oscar-nominated Vancouver film producer Bill Vince has died of cancer. He was 44.
Vince produced the best-picture nominee Capote, which won the best actor Oscar for star Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2006. Vince was the first person the star thanked upon winning the award for the Manitoba-filmed movie.
More recently, Vince produced the troubled fantasy adventure The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus with director Terry Gilliam. The movie's filming in London and Vancouver was jolted by the death of star Heath Ledger in January of this year. Director Terry Gilliam rewrote his movie's script to allow for actors Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Jude Law to play alternate versions of Ledger's character.
Vince, who was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago and passed away Saturday night, is survived by his wife Cynthia and three children.
