If this is not voted as one of the worst lyrical songs ever, I don't know what is. By the way, Scott, nice 80s leather jacket. Can I borrow it? Even covered by Marilyn McCoo.

Even the original was bad enough by Charlene.

Now Charlene was all MILF-a-licious and all that way back when, but damn, that song was sooooooooo sappy and melodramatic, I simply HATED it!!!! Still do.

It makes Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is seem like a masterpiece compare to this dreck. Honestly.

That song was a classic, It has no business being mentioned in the same sentence as "I've Never Been to Me"

If you really want to compare "I've Never Been to Me" with another piece of dreck then I suggest the following:

"Having My Baby" by Paul Anka and Odia Coates. No other piece of dreck written before or since can compare with this lame excuse for a song.

In fact, I think "Having My Baby" was actually voted worst song ever!!

Just kidding, guys. I love Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is. Just thought of a bad ballad and I sort of forgotten about "Having My Baby".....frankly, I thought "Having My Baby" is the worst 70s ballad ever. Thanks for the update.

Couldn't agree more. I HATE that song, and the only other 70s ballads that might be worse are Muskrat Love and All By Myself. *shudders*

The following year, Charlene released another song, "Used to Be", a duet with Stevie Wonder that was penned by the writers of "I've Never Been to Me", which did not reach the pop top 40 chart and only reaching #46 on the pop charts. Both records were ranked the third and fourth worst records of all time by Jimmy Guterman and Owen O'Donnell in their 1991 book, The Worst Rock n Roll Records of All time. Not surprisingly, the Used to Be album, which accompanied its titular single, was not as successful as her previous album.[citation needed]

In 1984, Charlene released another album, Hit and Run Lover. Motown attempted to revamp her image in order to appeal to new audiences by highlighting her in a segment of the film The Last Dragon, which was under development by Motown's founder Berry Gordy. She and other Motown artists, including DeBarge and Vanity, were strategically placed in the film to appeal to the MTV craze of the time. Charlene's song "Fire" was used along with a sexy music video depicting her as a goddess. Although the film managed to improve some of the other artists' notoriety, Charlene's appearance in the film did not catch on and she was dropped from the Motown label the following year.[citation needed]

Because of her one big hit, Charlene became known as a one-hit-wonder in music. Charlene and her hit "I've Never Been to Me" was featured on VH1's 100 Greatest One-hit Wonders show, hosted by William Shatner in 2002. Her ranking on the list was #75. In 2006, "I've Never Been to Me" was released as one of the songs on SingStar Anthems, one of the popular SingStars.[citation needed]Charlene is set to re-release the song in the form of a dance remix via download music

Chuck Berry didn't write "My Ding-A-Ling." It was written and originally recorded by Dave Bartholomew in 1952. Some of the lyrics in Chuck's version were altered and he may have rewritten those himself.

"I kissed a girl" is the worst song for 2008...in my honest opinion.

Isn't that song a remake? I thought someone recorded that back in the 90s.
