The scoop mongers at Latinoreview have covertly discovered who Marvel wants to pick up Steve Rogers shield last seen on Tony Stark’s workbench!

Marvel has been having one hell of a week. First the Jon Favreau controversy, then we have a he said/ she said argument brewing over Captain America’s cameo, oh and tomorrow THE INCREDIBLE HULK opens which kicked all sorts of ass.

Well, speaking of CAPTAIN AMERICA, I have myself a trusted source internally over at Marvel and they are now starting to toss names for the role of Steve Rogers.

The name at the top of the list?

LEONARDO DICAPRIO

Now before some loser film website goes out there and tries to debunk me let’s get it straight. Don’t expect Marvel to go on the record and say “Yes it’s true, we are looking at so and so.” Hollywood doesn’t work like that. Studios and production companies only go on the record to announce the casting of a role when it’s official. I announced the lead in the upcoming Prince of Persia. It took the trades weeks later to make it official. That being said…

NO OFFERS HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY MADE! NOBODY HAS BEEN CAST YET! DICAPRIO IS PROBABLY CLUELESS AT THIS POINT!

Just because Marvel wants him, doesn’t mean they are going to get him. Studios and production companies put together their wish lists when they are casting and work their way down the list. I personally believe DiCaprio is an odd choice. To me, Leo’s tall and lanky figure is perfect for Steve Rogers pre-super soldier serum but I wonder how they are going to make Leo look like a bulked up super soldier. Don’t get me wrong, he has the chops for the role but DiCaprio is awfully busy these days developing ATARI, FLEMING and a host of other projects over at Appian way.

Marvel is aiming real high when it comes to talent and rightfully so, it has paid off for them tremendously. I believe to get DiCaprio, they’re gonna have to nail down a kick ass script and a director first.

Off the top of my head, the only actor I can think of who would be a good choice - and i really really really hate to say it - is Matthew McConaughey.

No doubt, he is fit enough for the costume, but I think he mugh be a bit too old.

well, he meets the criteria alright: blond hair and he has the body to go with it too. and yet it is his strong southern accent that might put people off from watching it. not that i am offending texans or those based in the south

My rommate and I saw the new Hulk movie and Iron Man back to back today, and we talked at length about the new Captain America movie, which is all part of Marvel's plan to merge all the characters into one big Avengers movie, and we agreed on one thing:

Captain America must be played by an American actor.

With all due respect to alot of great actors from England, Scotland and Australia, it would be a total joke if Captain America was played by a non American.

Ther has to be some American actor out there who can play the part.

i was thinking exactly the same lines as well. even if he does have blond hair and the body to go with it, having a british, australian or even canadian born actor play an american based fictional character and doing a fake american accent as well would be laughable itself.

mind you, wolverine from the x-men is canadian but he was played by an aussie, hugh jackman in the x-men trilogy.

btw, anyone remember the crappy low budget version of captain america that went straight to dvd in the 90s?

Maybe Brad Pitt? He has the blonde hair and he can easily get a body like Matthew....

I don't know. I just can't see Leo

I remember that and wow, I wish I didn't.

I think they shot that one entirely in Europe.

A Captain America film shot overseas. That's irony for you. Or is it? I'm not sure. Can someone get Alanis Morissette to clarify?

brad pitt would probably look silly in blue spandex. he does have the bod though. if leo does get the part though, i'd be howling like a wolf

i was thinking that perhaps ryan reynolds would be ideal. i think he'd make a good captain america. although the thing is, he is canadian. or even paul walker (the fast and the furious).

i just went on the IMDB boards and someone suggested wrestler john cena for the role, whilst another suggested -yikes- ashton kutcher!

DiCaprio. No. They'd have to CGI some muscles onto him. Captain America is a beefy, strong guy. I don't think he's the right type in terms of his acting, physical stuff aside. He's done some good work, but I don't see him as a superhero.

I didn't think it was that bad really, although they do need to go with an American actor. Preferably by an unknown. That low budget C.A. was better than the late 70's tv series.

it looked like something that was made in college using a mini camcorder. the picture quality looked poor, so cheap in fact. although this wouldn't be the first time marvel made 2 different versions of a superhero film using the same protagonist. remember the punisher? one had dolph lundgren in it, the other thomas jane froma few years back, although neither of them translated well on the big screen

Paule Walker is a possibility.

Josh Duhamel (Transformers) could do it too.

Okay, I have been thinking about this for a few days, and here are my casting choices.

Granted a few of these guys are probablt too old, but IMO, they can do it.

Tom Jane - He deserves another shot at playing a comic book hero, considering how God awful that Punisher movie was.

Brenden Frasier - his work on the Mummy movies proves to me that he is a certified ation hero.

Nathan Fillon - yes, he is Canadian, but if you saw him in Serenity, you would agree that he is a great actor, and will be a great American hero.

Yes! I had completely forgotten about him but he was fantastic in the Mummy and plays a great action hero!

thomas jane- perhaps so. he's have to dye his blond though. however he did play a blond hair south african bank robber in 'stander', a year before the punisher film came out

brendon frasier- he does have the muscular build of a superhero

nathan fillon- i have never heard of him but then again, i never watched serenity either
