Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler, Ellen Page and Zac Efron took home Golden Popcorn awards at last night's MTV Movie Awards.
Smith won Best Male Performance for I Am Legend and reminded the audience how long ago it was when he made the transition from rapper/sit-com star to movie actor: "I was sitting there with my little man [son Jaden, who accompanied him onstage] and I remembered that I was on this stage in 1988. And to be here today in 2008, I just really want to say thank you, guys."
He also admitted that, "I haven't always made great movies, but I've been trying real hard."
Iron Man won Best Summer Movie So Far beating Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Sex and the City.
Ellen Page, who won best female for her under-age mum role in Juno, said in her speech: "This was just a little movie we made, and it was because of everyone who went to see it [that it became] what it was,"
The glitzy ceremony, which doesn't take itself too seriously, saw host Mike Myers in a dance off against R&B star Chris Brown and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr in a mock fight with Ben Stiller over who's the biggest star.
Talking of fighting, Best Fight went to Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet for their battle in Never Back Down.
Superbad's Jonah Hill was probably the evening's most disappointed actor as the film, which was nominated for five gongs, won nothing. He might, however, have been cheered by the sight of Johnny Depp wearing a throwback outfit that recalled his stint in 21 Jump Street which Hill is remaking. Depp won Best Comedic Performance for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
"Thank you for voting for me," Depp said. "Thank you for sticking with me on this very obtuse and strange road."
The 2008 MTV Generation Award went to Adam Sandler, who was introduced by Tom Cruise before launching into a tongue-in-cheek rendition of Bond song Nobody Does It Better while a montage of his own movie clips played on the big screen.
