View Full Version : Is Amanda Overmyer Idol's "Worst"?

Well, Amanda Overmyer's hair is about as big as Sanjaya's...

The comparison between the hard-rocking nurse and the most infamous American Idol contestant ever would end there, except for one other thing: Like Sanjaya, Overmyer has won the endorsement of Vote for the Worst.

"She mumbles through her song, does crazy dancing and basically makes a mockery of the competition by singing every song the same way," the Idol-subverting site declared. "This is why we love her."

To Idol blogger Rickey Yaneza of Rickey.org, Vote for the Worst's selection only proves producers' contentions that this year's batch of contestants are, on the whole, "good to go."

"She has a limited vocal range. But she's not a total trainwreck," Yaneza said Monday of Overmyer. "She's not the ideal Worster. But the pickings are slim this year."

Vote for the Worst originally threw its lot behind the love-him, hate-him Danny Noriega and the model Amy Davis. Davis' elimination in the first semifinals round left the site looking for a new female champion, which it found the following week in Overmyer.

"Her rendition of 'Carry on My Wayward Son' was one of the worst vocals on Idol. Ever," the site judged on Feb. 27.

With Noriega eliminated March 6, Overmyer, hailed for her "striking style" and "rawness" by rock journalist and Los Angeles Times blogger Ann Powers, became the last Vote for the Worst candidate standing.

If the site was really trying to rid the show of its weakest link, it'd be gunning for Syesha Mercado or Kristy Lee Cook, according to Yaneza.

"The worst right now is Syesha," Yaneza said. "At least with Kristy Lee, she's hot."

"Unfortunately, they [Vote for the Worst] hate her. They think she's a plant."

True enough, the site has called the teenage singer "a plant," as in a ringer, for her onetime Nashville record deal. And plants, not bad singers, are what Vote for the Worst seems to most hate. The site, after all, is dedicated to drumming up votes for contestants who "the producers are rooting against." Hence, it's season-five endorsement of the Simon Cowell loathed Taylor Hicks, the eventual winner.

In the case of Cook, who was picked apart by the judges last week for her frenetic country rendition of "Eight Days a Week," the site has decided "she's too marketable and slightly boring compared to Amanda's wild chile."

So Overmyer it is.

And if the Vote for the Worst votes keep the licensed practical nurse from Indiana safe this week and earn her a spot in Idol's Top 10 summer tour, well, worse things have happened.

Hey, I like Amanda! I think she has GREAT hair! Personally, my least favorite right now is Chikezie.

VFTW is just as fake and greedy as they (rightfully) claim AI is. they don't choose the worst contestants, they choose the people they know already have an established fanbase and that will last at least a few weeks, so that they can say that it was them who got the contestants through. Danny Noriega wasn't the "worst" either and neither was Kellie Pickler (their main pick back in Season 5), but both had established fanbases and were guarenteed at least a few weeks.

Amanda had one terrible performance (Wayward Son), but the rest have been ok.

I gotta say, Amanda was never my favorite int he early stages, but she's growing on me from what I've seen. She's very likeable.

Amanda is one of those people that stand out to me. I think, 'when's Amanda going to perform?' But if they say, 'and now, here's Brooke White', I think, 'oh. I forgot she was on.'
They need a better Worst than Overmyer. And not Syesha or Kristy Lee. I like them, as well.

Right now, I would pick Chikezie as their "Worst." He's a great performer, but his voice just isn't good at all.

Kristy is quite clearly the weakest one left. i kind of like her, but...yeah.

Amanda definitely does stand out over the other contestants. I think she'll stick around for a few more weeks, but I doubt she'll win.

I think the weakest links right now are Brooke and Kristy. Kristy stands out a little, but she doesn't have the greatest voice. Brooke to me was terrible last night and deserves to go home soon.

I"m not a huge fan of Chikezie, either. Just something about him isn't very likeable, and his voice would be nothing without the band to back him up.

On the other hand, David Archuletta was AMAZING last night. By far, the best performance in weeks. I was literally blown back by his voice.

Brooke is definitely not a weak link. she's my second favorite, and i hope she makes top 3. she's one of the most unique contestants ever on this show and one bad performance doesn't change that.

but David Archuleta needs to win. cause he's awesome.

i think everyone this year is really talented, but the top contenders are David Arch, David C, Brooke, and Jason, and Amanda, Kristy, Ramiele, and Chikezie are the weaker ones of this group. they're all still good, but they've been disappointing lately. Michael is close to the weak group too, because his last three performances have been very blah.
