LOS ANGELES - In a further sign that Sony Corp.'s Blu-ray has won the high-definition format war, Paramount Pictures home entertainment unit said Friday it will release its last HD DVD titles on Tuesday.


The company intends to switch to Blu-ray after it offers "Things We Lost in the Fire" and "Into the Wild" in HD DVD.

Paramount said it is in the process of determining its Blu-ray release schedule.

Universal Studios said last week it was shifting its focus to Sony's Blu-ray standard.

That announcement came after Toshiba Corp. said it would no longer develop, make or market players and recorders in HD DVD, the standard it invented.

Blu-ray won another key battle last month when Warner Bros. Entertainment chose it as the exclusive format for its releases.

Other Blu-ray backers are Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Co. and News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox.

I couldn't care less one way or the other, I'm still not over VHS replacing beta. :lol:

part of me thinks they should give partial refunds to the people who were suckered into buying HD-DVD

I wasn't suckered. I never had any desire to own HD or Blueray. I honestly never saw a point. In a couple of years they'll come out with something better. I wasn't even aware there was a "war" until it was "won". Like I said: a silly.

*SIGH* I wonder a lot these days. How does any of it make a difference?

i couldn't agree more. there's not that much of a huge difference between dvd, HD and blu- ray anyway. its just an attempt for dvd producers to become more greedy and scam us out of our pockets

:mad: I just transferred all my VHS to DVD and bought a new DVD player and recorder. It isn't Blu ray. :mad: I think they do this so you have to keep switching.
If I was told correctly, you can't play blu ray on a regular DVD player so when they switch to all releasing all blu ray I'll have to start over again. :( :( :(
