Cowell: 'The Oscars reek of snobbery'

Acid-tongued TV judge Simon Cowell has slammed Sunday night's Academy Awards - because the Oscars "reek of snobbery".

The American Idol star believes the ceremony - which exclusively rewards work on movies - looks down on TV series and television stars; and Cowell even claims he's viewed as "evil" in Hollywood circles.

He says, "They think I'm the antichrist. They don't like us TV people to be part of it - it's ridiculous. It reeks of snobbery."

And Cowell insists he wouldn't want to attend the star-studded event because he hates Tinseltown.

He adds, "I have nothing to do with the Oscars - and nor do I want to. I'll only go if someone has invited me.

"I hate the whole movie industry. It's so stuck up I can't bear it."

I agree. I never really had any respect for him, but whatever I had was lost when he publicly bashed Springsteen because he doesn't sell records like he used to. Bruce has more talent in one finger than 99% of the people on American Idol have in their entire families

And if that's true, he should explain why Jon Stewart got to host last night, and Ellen hosted the Oscars last year; both are famous for TV and those are only two examples out of many people that have careers solely in TV or have done mostly TV series that have appeared on the show throught the years from time to time.

American Idol, like it or not, has a lot to do with how cute or sexy someone is (someone like Chris Richardson made it as far as he did because he's cute, not because he could sing). You can have J. Lo's voice but if you look hot, you're going to go further. Just look at how Jennifer Hudson was voted out so early the year she was in it because of her weight.... she's the one who has an Oscar now. That must've ticked him off so much since he was all for Fantasia yet Hudson is the one who won an award.

i understand what you mean by this. if i am correct, the oscars rewards talent- actual talent, as opposed to looks. and besides, at least the actors' work is original and their own work- instead of taking other people's recordings and screwing with them. like they do on idol. also, i don't understand why a lot of women and some gay men find him attractive. simon is old enough to be my dad for christ's sake

well, American Idol IS karaoke, no matter how much people try to argue it's not. I remember when she was booted, it was big news even for people who don't watch AI, it was all over Extra, ET, etc... about how they all thought it wasn't right. And she got the last laugh, to spite Simon, who was all about wanting Fantasia to get the role of Effie, like she was "entitled" to the role :rolleyes:
