Hi,

Cool! :happyface I am so glad that you have the segment about Sandra Beeman (I only have the update). I have been dying to see that one! I think the update was downright comical with them just being busted and with these big grins on their face and playing kissy face in the back seat of the police car...

Hmm that Paul Whipkey one doesn't sound familiar. Anyone else remember it or is it one of those that never made it to Lifetime?

Yes, I remember it from the Lifetime reruns. I think he was alleged to have been around during some atom bomb/radiation tests and to have suffered some symptoms. I remember the UM broadcast mentioning that all of his teeth fell out.

I believe Whipkey disappeared during the start of The Cold War. He was stationed in California I believe and his family believes he was recruited by the US Government for some type of intelligence mission having to do with Russia.

There were several odd things about his disappearance. I believe when they found his car in the desert they were able to determine that Whipkey was not the last man to have driven it. In addition there was a pile of cigarette butts all around the car. Whipkey was not a smoker.

In addition in the months before his disappearance, government officials began showing up at Whipkey's base and speaking to Whipkey and another officer in private. When the superior officers at the base questioned these officials they were basically told to mind their own business or else there would be consequences. Not only did Whipkey vanish under mysterious circumstance but the other officer vanished under equally mysterious circumstances. It is thought that he perished in plane crash over the desert but nobody is really sure of his fate.

I believe Robert Stack mentioned at the end of the segment that because of the publicity from UM the US Army did comply to no longer list Whipkey as a deserter and changed his status possibly to MIA but I'm not really sure as I haven't watched the segment in awhile (although its on one of my tapes).

I thought it was interesting that the Whipkey case is classified by UM as a "Wanted" case rather than a "Missing Persons" case. Looks like at the time it was first broadcast the army still considered him a deserter.

Just wanted to say thanks for doing this. A lot of us, myself included, really appreciate it, probably more than you know.

I love posts like these, summarizing or referencing original NBC broadcasts. It sheds light on a perspective that you can't get from Lifetime re-runs (such as the updates, or the list of fugitives featured after the Patrick Michael Mitchell segment). I am also loving the Pat Fagan factoid - I've often wondered what goes through the minds of those fugitives that decided, wherever they were, to sit down one Wednesday night, tune into NBC, and see themselves and their crimes re-enacted on TV.

I copied, pasted and saved a detailed episode list someone else posted here many moons ago, and on it the Gretchen Burford case was listed as airing on 09/27/89. But an early 1991 airing makes more sense as Stack said that the murder (which was in 1988) happened "two years ago".

It just occurred to me...

Pat saw that her episode was "coming up next week", which means she was watching the previous week's episode. That means at the exact moment she was freaking out about being captured, Dennis Depue was miles away doing the EXACT SAME THING!!!

I was just going over this list and I think I figured something out. The combined Son of Sam report most likely aired on 1/23/91.

The description Stormer Phillips wrote for that date (Tracey Kirkpatrick et al.) I believe to be the episode that aired on 1/30/91. See the episode guide.

Further, if you look at the 1/23/91 episode in the episode guide, it says the following:

"January 23, 1991

A report on the FBI hunt for a coldhearted con man wanted for bilking women. Also: a repeat segment on sightings of a bright orange fireball that crashed near Kecksburg, Pa., in 1965. "

which is nearly identical to this entry for 2/27/91:

"February 27, 1991

A report on the FBI hunt for a con man wanted for bilking women; a repeat segment on sightings of an orange fireball that crashed near Kecksburg (Pa.) in 1965 and was reportedly removed under military supervision; and an update on a reunion. [Postponed from an earlier date.]"

However, Stormer Phillips has the actual 2/27/91 airing, and it matches this description. I think it is unlikely NBC reran this story that many times. The "orange fireball", as some may recall, was a part of the third season premiere. I think the episode guide entry for 1/23/91 is an error and the Son of Sam/Walter "Curly" Green stories were actually shown then.

Three cheers for Stormer!! :)

Documenting your UM recordings must have taken alot of time, thanks for doing it!! And the fact your working to make these available for board members to see is even better news!!

Mucho appreciation,
Chris

I just thot of something, do you happen to have any tapes of the "hit" 1979 NBC show Supertrain? LOL:crazy:
