Okay, post your top ten of in your opinion "The world Television program ever to hit broadcast"... it has to be a show that has gone off the air. Preferably a sitcom or drama.
Here's mine:

9. Frasier
8. Baywatch
7. The Cosby Show
6. Boy Meets World
5. The Wonder Years
4. Malcholm in the Middle

Interesting list, littlebelle.
a few comments on some of your choices:
#10- I thought it might be a bit higher.
#8- I had a crush on Yasmine Bleeth that nearly approached the one of Angie.
#7- Very interesting.
#5- Another surpriser.
#1- I actually like that show. I have a DVD from season one.
Intriguing choices, nonetheless.
BTW, I changed my signature again.

1. Grounded for LifeThree of those shows don't belong on a worst list. Frasier and The Wonder Years are in my top 10, and Boy Meets World is a good show minus the last two seasons.

Joey
Suddenly Susan
Courting Alex
Dharma and Greg
All American Girl
Grounded For Life
Baywatch
California Dreams
Jesse
Two Guys and a Girl
interestingly enough, apart from grounded for life, they are all 90s shows. i am not a fan of any of these shows and thus i'd rather chew my arm off than sit through any of them- or indeed all of them

In no order:
Joey
Joanie Loves Chachi
Mork and Mindy
The Flying Nun
The Ropers - (that intro says it all!)
Coupling - (U.S. Version of it)
Pokemon - (the post-Misty years, especially!)
Baywatch - (more like Boob-Watch)
Suddenly Susan - (Should be called "Suddenly Stupid")
The Mullets - (the only thing good about that show was that the father was a game show host, otherwise glad that they got trimmed!).

Coupling - (U.S. Version of it)
I actually thought it might have been good since the creator of the British version was involved. Too bad it wasn't; the UK version blows the NBC one out of the water.

Wow! Why doesn't anyone like grounded for life? I own the whole series on DVD! Plus if it was that bad, they never would've released all seasons on DVD. I like Full House too, and own all the seasons on DVD. BTW littlebelle, I sorta consider Full House, Family Matters, and STEP BY STEP to be all similar shows lumped in one category. I know it's weird but they have the same producers, theme song singers, and crossed over with each other.

I'll also add in "Petticoat Junction" to my list.
The only reason I tune in for that show is for the opening theme song credits. Otherwise, it's a total abomination of the Hillbilly trio of the shows. The show was stupid and the last season was really, REALLY bad once Bea Benaderet (if that's how you spell her last name) died.

I loved Will & Grace until the end of season 4; 1-3 was the best the show ever was, 4 was its last real decent year. Eventually it became all about the guest stars and lost a lot of its quality IMO.

I'm going to stick to popular sitcoms that ran at least 3 seasons on major networks
#1 Full House
#2 Unhappilly ever After
#3 SBTB
#4 Who's the Boss?
#5 Everybody loves Raymond (not me)
#6 3rd Rock From The Sun
#7 Roseanne (Sorry Irene & Clare )
#8 Mork & Mindy (year 1 was ok, but, the rest was more rancid than a skunk wearing 3 day old socks)
#9 Alice
#10 The Adams Family

well, I would feel compelled to list shows like Full House that I can't stand, but the truth of the matter is, there are at least 100 really bad reality shows from the past five years that truly deserve "worst show ever"
Full House is Emmy-worthy next to I Love New York or Tila Tequila

that show, as well as dharma and greg, were in many ways so similar to each other, they still sucked. i'm all for romance in sitcoms, as long as its not done in such a sappy cringeworthy way that makes you wanna stick your finger down your throat and gag. and yeah, mad about you was soooo dull, it wasn't even that funny

even though they are not on my list, one on one and my wife and kids- one on one was okay at first but then afterwards it got more stupid and lame. that storyline with brianna sleeping with d-mac to get back at her bf, arnaz was ridiculous, which led to it being cancelled. my wife and kids tried to recreate the cosby show, but it was much worse. the scripts were dire and the humour was just silly. michael's piss taking of his son became tedious and annoying- first time perhaps so but to keep using that same idea over and over is frankly tiresome and a waste of time

Damon Wayans did not deserve a sitcom. He was a freaking comedian who had his start on HBO and his other roles on Living Colour. He did not deserve to a Bill Cosby representative. That was so not him.

he was better off as part of an ensemble cast, but yeah, he didn't deserve to have his own sitcom. speaking of the wayans bros, shawn and marlon starred in their very own show back in 1995. i wasn't impressed with their effort either

I change my mind about "Coupling" being on my Top 10.
I'm surprised no one's yet mentioned this highly over-rated piece of garbage that should of tanked last season, let alone from day friggin' one and that piece of $%^* show is:
"AMERICAN IDOL!!!"
If I wanna see people butcher up good songs w/ their horrific singing, there's a karaoke bar for that! It's also one of the most over-exposed and over-rated (IMO) shows in history.
So if there's room for DISHONORABLE MENTIONS, then "American Idol" is def. in my top list of Dishonorable Mentions.
DISHONORABLE MENTIONS:
American Idol
Almost all of those abysmal, pathetic Reality Shows on MTV, VH1, etc.
Any Reality Show that calls itself a game show!
The War at Home - FOX TV Inane-ness at its WORST! This show was partly responsible for getting the less-inane "Arrested Development." It also had no business being aired w/ "The Simpsons" in its first season.

Interesting you bring up Betty White. The best TV is never about us the people -- it's about the few talented enough to entertain us, and that's why Match Game (there's the connection :) ) remains unsurpassed -- as a GAME SHOW! :talk:

I like THE NANNY too. I found her voice most annoying in season one, then it got alot better for me. Yetta's probably my favorite.
FULL HOUSE has got to be the worst show idea ever conceived. Interestingly enough, however, I like STEP BY STEP.
ROSEANNE and THE COSBY SHOW are others that I'm not in love with. Don't know why, I'm just not a fan.
All current network shows suck save a few: MY NAME IS EARL, 30 ROCK, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, STUDIO 60 (off the air), IDOL, BACK TO YOU, SNL, MADTV...
If I come up with more I'll add them.

documentries for me are my definition of reality tv- in the sense that the stories and people involved are real life, as in 'reality'. shows like idol, big brother etc shouldn't really be called reality tv- they all belong in the category of 'lame' tv- which those shows are

Oh, my sweet Lord! You stole my thunder! I absolutely loathe "Reality" shows in any form! As you stated, it has replaced so many sitcoms. I despise Survivor, Big Brother, Idol, Dancing with the Stars, etc. This is NOT the kind of television that I have been accustomed to enjoying for decades and have no interest in acquiring a taste for. I realize that I'm probably in the minority on this issue b/c it is adored by so many, but I just DON'T GET IT.....NEVER will! It has chased me away from evening network television viewing to the point that I am now once again, a Directv satellite customer with NO access to local stations {ABC, CBS or NBC feeds}. I miss my area coverage of sports from those networks, but that's WHY they still sell "rabbit ears" which work fine. And watching sports and our local news is the ONLY times I will watch, unless, that is, I can find a really good sitcom to enjoy which I haven't found, as yet. Yes, I sure miss the "good old days" looking forward to tuning into all the half hour comedies, Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, Jonathan Winters, etc. The almighty $$$$$$$ reared it's ugly head, as usual! It's called "progress," but I strongly disagree! My answer? Click, click, click on the remote and channel "surf!" I REFUSE to watch that REALITY {scripted....if you ask me} garbage.

And I thought I was the only one who like Step by Step yet disliked Full House!
I never got Full House. It tried to be funny... but failed miserably. Its jokes were like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. I couldn't stand their cheesiness and lack of originality!
Step by Step WAS funny. It was reminiscent of THE BRADY BUNCH (which is what they were going for), another show that I'm a fan of, so I really appreciated when they paid homage to the show in some of the storylines (the pilot was probably the biggest homage of all to TBB, as the storyline was nearly identical to the pilot of TBB).

I think Idol has gotten more tolerable with time since fans are no longer rushing to find political statements (I was turned off to it from the first season when people had to blame Tamyra Gray getting voted off on racism, and then more "racist allegations" when Clay's album outsold Ruben's even tho Ruben won.... since they argued that the winner is supposed to have the most success, that explains Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson didn't even make the finals and yet kicked the asses of Taylor and Fantasia, right?). But now people are finally chilling out and realizing the show is entertainment and not political.

I love her show too, even though I haven't seen it in a while.
It's a couple of channels right now and know one of them is Lifetime.

Just a quick note about my selections; I know there are shows more hated than my choices but, I felt i could only add shows that I had seen at least 3 times ( I only saw Seinfeld twice , or it would have been included, maybe in first place! )

I change my mind about "Coupling" being on my Top 10.
I'm surprised no one's yet mentioned this highly over-rated piece of garbage that should of tanked last season, let alone from day friggin' one and that piece of $%^* show is:
"AMERICAN IDOL!!!"
I agree 10000000000000%
It's not like this show makes stars out of people. Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson were exceptions, but they may have gotten somewhere anyway. For as popular as it is....it has no results to back it up. Totally overrated.
And the judges....lol. Ridiculous.

I watched Idol religiously until the end of season 2. Then for the next couple or so years I lost interest in the competition and just watched only the crappy auditions to get comic relief. This season I haven't watched it at all.

I agree. It shows how much results don't really matter when Chris Daughtry came in fourth or fifth place that season, and yet his album has sold three times what the top 2's albums have combined. He was going to be a star anyways and even if he came in fifth place on Idol, he's the "star" of the season, not Taylor Hicks or Katherine McPhee. Same thing happened with Jennifer Hudson. She left early on if I recall, and she's an Oscar winning actress now.

It was aimed for an audience of 6-13 year olds, not teens and adults. For the kids, it was funny.

Yeah, if those people had the drive enough to try out for Idol, they have the drive to pound the pavement in Hollywood. I think they would have gotten noticed anyway.

you're so right. other than kelly clarkson and carrie underwood, what happened to the other so-called finalists of the show? those types of shows do not make stars out of ordinary people with talent- unless you are very good, all it will do is chew them up and spit them out, time and time again. reality tv shows are all about securing ratings- they don't care about the people who take part, although i don't understand why people would choose to subject themselves on tv, believing that by appearing in shows like idol amounts to instant fame and success. they should better think again

other people from AI who have had success:
1. Chris Daughtry (fronts a popular band)
2. Clay Aiken (his first album was huge)
3. Jennifer Hudson (won an Oscar)
4. Fantasia (stars in a popular musical, doing well on Urban charts)
5. Jordin Sparks (just released her debut album and her first single made the top 10, her second one has only been out for a month and is already in the top 40)
6. Kellie Pickler (doing well in country, second best-selling contestant from her season)
7. Bucky Convington (country)
8. Elliott Yamin (had a top 20 single this past summer)
9. Diana DeGarmo (Broadway star now)
10. Kimberly Locke (had a top 10 single a few years back
11. Mandisa (won a grammy this year, album is doing well on Christian charts)
12. Ace Young (also won a grammy this year)
13. Katharine McPhee (her album was disappointing, but her debut single did reach the top 30 and she's going to be starring in a few movies)
14. Jasmine Trias (didn't do well in the US but she's huge in her home country of the Filipines)
i'm sure there's more. don't get me wrong - AI is a manipulating franchise of a show, it's only intent is making money, and i can totally see why a lot of people hate it, and i probably sound like a retarded fanBoI right now, but to say that Carrie and Kelly are the only two people from AI who have ever had success is completely false. not everyone is a SUPERSTAR!!!111, but many people have done well for themselves.

I think people are realizing Idol might help you get your face in the public, but talent still wins out, and winning the competition is no guarentee. Chris Daughtry had one of the biggest selling albums of last year.
I do feel bad though for the Idol rejects who turn into ex-boyband members in terms of having doors closed for them. Justin Guarini anyone? nobody even let him have a career, he released an album that got no promotion or airplay and suddenly he was a hasbeen. It's not like radio even tried to give him a fighting chance. Same with all the other losers (and even winners in Ruben and Taylor's chance) who are now without a record label. You have to get promotion and airplay to even get your music heard. Of course Taylor Hicks' album wasn't going to sell, nobody even gave it a chance. If radio even played his single 1/100th as much as they played "It's Not Over", who knows how it might've done. I always thought Taylor seemed like a novelty anyways,

Taylor winning that season was ridiculous though, lol. everyone knows it. Chris was the producers' "chosen one" (ie the one they push and want to win and have an obvious bias towards).

I agree with mostly all of these (: Although there was only one family guy episode that I thought was pretty clever. It had a scene where one of the characters made a reference to Alyssa Milano and then it showed Alyssa (real life Alyssa) sitting on a couch watching the episode and gets pissed and tells her agent to sue the show. Other then that one scene I think it's a terrible show.

1. Full House
2. Home Improvement
3. Everybody Loves Raymond
4. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
5. Third Rock from the Sun
6. 7th Heaven
7. America's Funniest Home Videos and it's ilk
8. any reality show (Except Americain Idol. I like it. So sue me.) or talk show
9. Mad About You
10. Pretty much any sitcom that has come out in the past few years.
And, of course, my absolute least favorite shows to watch are homicide investigation shows and true crime stories. I will never understand how people can enjoy murder mysteries, real or fiction, but that's just me.

I agree about crime shows I never got into any of the CSI type shows and the like. I don't really like reality tv either. I understand why people don't like Full House because now i'm older and it is a kid's show but I think i'd rather watch it then some of the shows on now because I feel like there are very few family type shows on now a day everything seems like it has to be edgy or something.

Before you read my list, I'm not claiming the show's are bad, because what's good and what's bad is all about personal taste. But I really don't like these: (in no real order)
1. Everybody Loves Raymond
2. King of Queens
3. Joey
4. Two and a Half Men
5. The Hughleys
6. Run Of The House
7. Grace Under Fire
8. Who's The Boss
9. Rosanne
Can't think of a tenth one. :p

I agree fully, the idea that one of the most horrendous crimes perpetrated in society is somehow fodder as "entertainment" is totally immoral and disgusting to me, also.
