Three Young Parents
Starring Ellen Page as the 21-year-old newly-pregnant and bisexual Kendall Gauthier, who's life is about to become hectic and even crazier. Kendall is openly bisexual, and had gotten pregnant by her older brother's best friend, James Goodman (Chace Crawford) after a brief fling one summer night. Soon after her fling with James, Kendall and her longtime best friend-turned-lesbian lover, Kari Schuman (Olivia Thirlby) begin to start to come to terms with their feelings for each other and form a relationship with each other. The show starts off with Kendall, accompanied by Kari, waiting in the clinic as she learns she is pregnant. Kendall and James decide to raise the baby together, yet while Kendall and Kari continue their budding relationship. The three young soon-to-be parents (including Kari as well)'s equally different sets of parents react differently, as well as Kendall's brother (and James's best friend), Justin Gauthier (Aaron Hill) who first is shocked to hear about his sister and friend's fling, yet becomes really supportive of their decisions. Kendall and Justin's middle-classed parents, Michael and Karen Gauthier (Timothy Hutton, Dana Delany) are anything but supportive at first. Michael flips out and is enraged that his daughter is now an unwed mother at 21. Karen is upset with Kendall, but accepts it as it is. Kari's ex-hippie, yet still free-spirited parents, Joe and Pamela Schuman (Stephen Collins, Diane Keaton) embrace their daughter's girlfriend (and best friend)'s newfound pregnancy with open arms and tons of support and advice. James's longtime single mom, Linda Goodman (Melanie Griffith), who happens to be Michael's boss, is not very happy with her son impregnanting "that Gauthier girl". Linda is upset enough to take out her frustrations on Michael, and results in costing him his job when he refuses to accept Linda's bribery check (in order to convince him to get Kendall to terminate the pregnancy). Michael, now unemployed, takes out his frustrations about losing his job and his pregnant daughter out on his family. Watch how Kendall, Kari, and James handle the pregnancy and the fact of the three of them becoming parents at 21, as well as the Gauthier, the Goodman, and the Schuman families.
