do you like any of their newer stuff? I like some of the 80's and 90's stuff but I think they've really been on a roll in the past few years. Thank god that Andy stopped bleaching his hair because he looked like a 70 year old in the Breathe video :lol: . His solo album from 2005 was really good too. They've been real workaholics the past few years and they already announced a new cd for 2008 (and they released a new cd and an ep this year, following an acoustic cd last year, a new cd in 2005 plus a solo album from Andy then). It seems like ever since Andy found out he was sick, he's really been stepping up because they had a period for several years where the material wasn't up to par and they were really sparse, and then suddenly he admitted that he's HIV+ and the band has been back on track soon with a lot of the best material they've ever recorded.

to be perfectly honest with you, i listened to some of their recent material, and i have to say, i prefer the 80s and early 90s erasure. i just couldn't get into their newer records. nevertheless, they continue making music, which is great and they have been one of the pioneers of the dance craze- not just in gay clubs but in dance clubs in general too

well, they are a bit more mellow these days it seems. Ever since Always was a big hit for them in both England and America, it seems like they've been doing the more midtempo thing. Andy's "Electric Blue" solo album is more along the lines of classic Erasure. Crazy was more like classic Erasure than anything they've recorded in the past several years. I do think a lot of the material is superb and works well with his voice tho, and many of the songs have been remixed. But if you want classic Erasure, Andy Bell's solo record is the best option to go for. He also does a track with Jake Shears on there.

i also think its an age thing too as well. i mean andy and vince aren't getting any younger, but then again tell that to tina turner, cher and countless other older singers in the music scene. i love listening to always, that is a brilliant song, very midtempo but with a catchy chorus to go along with it. i am more fond of the older erasure material because it is just so poppy, energetic and great. thanks for the link btw, dean! :)

you are right, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and the rest of the synthy bands who rose to prominence in the 80's have mellowed out quite a bit now that they're older, but I do think that it's more Vince than Andy who is mellow now, judging from how Andy basically got the disco ball out when he went to record his own album.

But I do think Erasure and PSB have been passing the torch onto Scissor Sisters (and it kinda shows when Andy and Jake have worked together a few times already) and other younger groups in recent years who are as vibrant and flamboyant as they were in their heyday

Mika is definately part of the "new" wave of that type of flamboyant pop artist. However, I think the verdict is still out on him. His first album was pop perfection and catchy from start to finish, but I am holding out for his sophomore effort before deciding one way or the other about him, since a lot of the younger artists need a sophomore effort before you can tell if they're going to be great (The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Maroon 5, etc...) or just merely good (Franz Ferdinand, etc...) and Mika may very well be one of those who used up all his good songs on the debut album.
