The origin of the name "Shemp" is kind of interesting. He was born Samuel
Horowitz, but his mother had trouble pronouncing "Samuel" and it came out
"Shemp."

from what I heard, she didn't have trouble pronouncing it, but with her thick lithuainian accent, it always sounded like she was saying "SAMS" or "SHEMP".
