Latin heartthrob Ricky Martin is facing fresh speculation over his sexuality after his good friend and skin care specialist Ole Henriksen 'outed' the star in a recent magazine interview.
Henriksen was being interviewed by gay Swedish magazine Salonk when he made the comment about Livin' La Vida Loca's sexual preference.
He's quoted as saying, "He (Martin) is a bit more open about it (his homosexuality) these days than he used to be... I don't know if he has a boyfriend."
And when asked who he'd choose to spend a romantic holiday with, Henriksen replied, "I'd go for Stig Tofting (ex Danish soccer player), but since he's straight, I'd say my client Ricky Martin."

I remember when he did Behind The Music several years back, he addressed the rumors by showing his "girlfriend" of many years. It seemed fake, though, like he was going out of his way to show that he was straight. Of course, I never heard anything about their relationship since. I don't care one way or the other...Ricky Martin was over a long time ago.
Is anybody really surprized about this?

I agree. At this point what does he have to lose, he's been off the charts much longer at this point than George Michael was when he finally came clean

Fame has nothing to do with it. Nobody should out anybody. A person's sexuality is their own business. If they want to keep that part of their life private, that's their right.

true, but Ricky did overcompensate for the gay rumors by making up the girlfriend on his Behind The Music that everyone could see past. It's different when you're George Michael/Jodie Foster and just don't talk about your sex life in interviews beforehand than when you're Ricky Martin or Wentworth Miller and use beards for the public when the personal life is a totally different matter.
Ricky's career is over and has been over for several years now, I could understand why he didn't want to say anything that would jeopardize his fame back in the late 90's, but at this point, he's no more relevant than Lance Bass is

to be honest, I think the reason a lot of gay people care so much about seeing celebrities "come out" is because I do believe that with every celebrity who comes out and says they're gay, it does make opinions change more and more. Once upon a time, "gay entertainment" was Boy George, who had some great songs in the 80's I'll give him, but his image in the 80's was precisely the type of negative stereotype given to gay men, that we're all over-the-top, effeminate, drug-using queens. Seeing more and more celebrities coming out has definately helped make a lot of middle of the road people more aware of the fact that there are gays and lesbians out there who aren't that different from them. Seeing someone like T.R. Knight coming out at the height of his career, as a major character on one of TV's top shows, makes a lot of people realize that gay people are out there and they're just like them outside of their preference. At this point, with every celebrity who comes out, it seems like things get just a little bit easier for gay people and they get more "accepted" by the status quo. And considering T.R. has passed the litmus test on Grey's Anatomy, it makes someone like Wentworth Miller look like a coward since Prison Break doesn't get half the audience Grey's gets, yet Wenty is so worried about ruining his "heartthrob" image.

Then add Jodie Foster to the coward's list. Your're right Irene, it's not official. Who has she told in the media that she's gay? After all these years, and she's only graduated to dropping hints. She won't even take her life partner out in public, red carpet, etc. Afraid of hurting her career, I guess. There's cowardice, by your defination, John. I think Jodie owes her fans their money's worth at the Box Office. Same for other gay stars. It begins and ends there.
My opinion will never change. It's a violation of a person's privacy. I don't care if it's a star or my mailman. It's a person's right to tell who they want, when they want, if they want.

well, Jodie isn't really a "coward" because she treats it as a non-issue, she just keeps it private. She doesn't hire good-looking men to escort her to premieres to make her look like a straight woman. Wentworth Miller being gay has been an "open secret" for some time now, there have been candid pictures of him with the guy who plays Scotty on Brothers And Sisters (this guy used to date T.R. Knight) acting the role of a couple yet he brings female beards out to movie premieres or whatever with him because he is afraid being outted would ruin his career, even tho T.R. Knight is a bigger star than him and being gay hasn't affected his career at all.
I think there's a vast different with "my sexuality is nobody's business" than "uh oh, I don't want it getting out that I'm gay so I'll hire a beautiful woman to go to a premiere with me"

A performer owes their audience nothing but their money's worth. Not every gay person wants to be an activist or help causes or make it easy for other gays. They owe you or anyone else nothing.

Taking an escort to a premiere is the same as going solo and leaving your gay partner of 12 years home alone. Huge double-standard you have going on there. I don't care who takes who to what, but if you're going to care, be fair about it. Jodie gets a pass. You're hammering away at some guy I've never heard of. His obligation to his fans is giving them a good performance. It begins and ends there. Again, it's none of your business, and none of my business. Who takes who where, tells who what. We don't own performers. Their lives are their own.

Exactly. Why doesn't Jodie just have her partner with her on the red carpet or in public? She doesn't need to tell the media anything. Then of course, there are people (rarely) like Dolly Parton who is never seen in public with her husband. We know he exists, but we never see him and we never question her abt that. Why not just show the world you have someone and you love them and move on. To hell with the media. You don't owe them anything.
It certainly is not my business and frankly, I don't care abt anyone's sexual orientation. People's sexual orientation changes nothing for me. Whether Jody is gay or straight, she still made some outlandish comments abt Christians, she has an awesome career, I am sure she is a devoted mother and daughter, etc.
And as you stated Janice, not every gay person is out to make a stance on gay rights or advocate anything related to that. There are plenty of people who don't scream out "I'm gay" or anything like that. If the "straight" community doesn't yell it out, why should they? I can see if they had an agenda to fulfill or a point to make, but overall it is no one's business. Being gay doesn't make a person.

I totally agree with you that nobody has the right to out anybody. It's not anyone's business. Celebrities do have a right to their privacy. All I care about is if they entertain me. I've been a big Jodie Foster fan for years. I've grown up with her. I loved The Accused and Silence of the Lambs. Those are 2 of my favorite movies. It doesn't matter to me if she's gay or not. I always respected her for keeping a low profile on everything. That's why I don't understand why she came out attacking her fans lately. It's so unlike her. I don't like celebrities that talk down to their fans. Another reason why I don't listen to what they say about politics. Just because they believe something, doesn't mean I have too. They should just stick to the business of entertainment. People don't like being preached to.

Dolly Parton's husband isn't in the business, so it kind of makes sense that we don't see him. From what I've read, he's that shy type, not Hollywood at all. Same goes for Meryl Streep's husband. The thing is, we know they're married. I've read many Jodie Foster interviews, and the interviewer doesn't go there. They're told beforehand what's on or off limits, for most interviews. I respect Foster's right to keep her private life just that, private.
Everyone's different. Rosie can't get through an interview or even a sentence for that matter, without mentioning Kelly. I saw Ellen's standup back in 2001, and she had then-girlfriend, Anne Heche actually come out on stage, and gave her a kiss when before she walked back.
Ellen and Portia, all over each other at award's shows. Who cares. I think everyone should have someone to love if that's what they want. I remember reading an interview with Ellen, shortly after she came out, and she stated that she doesn't want to become the poster person for gays. I don't know if she's changed, but that's how she felt at the time. She didn't want it to define her, in the sense that it becomes ALL she's about. Who can blame her. I'd hate my sexuality to be a prime focus. Like you say, being gay doesn't make a person.
Ironically, I read an interview with Sean Hayes. He was asked about his sexuality (rude question). He said, and I'm paraphrasing, "It's not an area I want to get into at this time. Ever since Ellen came out, it's Ellen, the GAY comic. Ellen, the GAY this, the GAY that." He used Ellen as an example. He didn't want to be defined, just as Ellen didn't, but apparently she was since Sean used her for an example, lol. Has he come out yet or what? Those door hinges must be rattling like crazy by now. I mean, if he wasn't, he'd just say no.
I think Jodie hasn't come out for fear of it damaging her career. Perhaps it would have, who knows. It wouldn't matter to me and the people I know. And like we've mentioned, many openly-gay performers don't want to become activists. That's their choice, and they're under no obligation to do so. They want to perform, and live their lives, period. Rosie's into it, with her cruises and gay adoption causes. That's her choice. That's the key word here. Choice. I think some people are all about choice, until they disagree with the choice. Many gay artists choose not getting involved in causes. While we're on the subject, I want to give a shout out.
I'M STRAIGHT! :D

I think that John means that in order for Wentworth to keep people guessing and keep his life private, that he is just getting women to escort out for the sake of keeping his image. Jodie on the other hand is just keeping it private and not going through so much unneccessary extra stuff like having her picture frequently taken with men to keep it that way.
And while I think it's okay that Wentworth wants to keep his love life private, if I were him, I'd personally wouldn't go so far, but that is just me. I know I'm no celebrity, but I'm still not out to everyone I know yet and I'd rather not pull a bunch of extra strings just to keep people guessing. I don't think that's fair to the woman. But then again that is just me.
I think people like Perez maliciously outing celebs is pretty much just as adding to the problem and making the situation look worse as same said celebs using "beards" nowadays.

I know what John meant, and people shouldn't even be guessing. This Wentworth guy wants to take ladies to events, he's an adult with a free mind to do so. If the reason he's doing it is to keep his image, I say whatever. I really do. He's not the only celeb doing that.
Foster hasn't come out either, and I'm guessing for image reasons too. If she wasn't gay, and was married to a man. I think he'd be at her side at the Oscars, and talked up in interviews. Wentworth and Foster's methods may vary, but their reasons are the same. My guess is that Jodie will come out when she's about 55, and her leading lady days are about over.
Yeah, this Perez creep needs to stay out of people's bedrooms. He's a piece of work.

Perez outs celebrities because he's jealous that he can't find a boyfriend
I honestly don't think Perez has really outted anyone any more than the rest of the media has. Lance and Reichen were slowly inching their way out (and remember that Reichen was already an openly gay reality star a few years before Lance came into the picture) and Perez was far from the only site posting pictures of the two together. T.R. Knight has been the only celebrity to come out in the past few years that was really a surprise to a lot of people
I blame it all on stalkerrazi sites like Perez, TMZ, etc... even five years ago, it was easier for celebrities to keep their lives private but now if you manage to step outside the house, you're gonna wind up on Perez or something of that ilk, and it's really sad.

i really don't a **** about their sexuality or who they are sleeping with- gay or straight i don't really care because its not as if it affects me as a person what they do and who they do it with.
a couple of months, years ago i used to think that a person's sexuality was an issue that needed to be discussed. but then i also thought about race, gender, age nationality etc and then i realised, who cares? we are all human at the end of the day and despite our differences, we are all the same species. and if people cannot accept that- then well, they are bigots really.
as for ricky martin, i couldn't care the slightest- besides, i am not that keen on his music and i do think he is overrated as a celebrity and i have never understood the attraction as to why a lot of people find him 'sexy'

I agree. I remember when Freddie Mercury died, people were taking him out to task for not coming out and being a spokesperson for the AIDS cause. I say, if someone chooses to be private about their sexuality, that's their business.
But in Ricky Martin's case, it just looks bad when they go to such great lengths to invent a girlfriend. It just reinforces the rumors, IMO.

I remember how poor Freddie Mercury was being talked abt for not coming out and talking abt his AIDs illness and so forth. WHY SHOULD HE? Does every well-known person who has a debilitating disease have to announce it to the world? Remember what happened to Rock Hudson? Boy that poor man could not even die in dignity because people pounced on him for not coming out that he was gay and had AIDs. At that time though, people were worried for Linda Evans because she had kissed the man. We know that is not how AIDs is passed, but back then it was thought that is one way to get it. It was paranoia. We can't change the past but we can learn from it and if Freddie wanted to die in peace without being a spokesperson for AIDs that is his business. If a female celebrity has breast cancer, is she taunted for keeping it private? If a well-known man has prostrate cancer, is he commented on for keeping it private? No! So why does a celeb who is gay or straight have to come out to say they have AIDs or HIV? We don't need celebs to "endorse" a disease. It doesn't change a thing if people themselves don't change their behavior or adhere to warnings.

well, you can be out and not be some huge spokesperson/"ambassador" for the gay community.
T.R. Knight did it just right. "I'm gay, but I hope that you don't consider that the most interesting thing about me". Michael Stipe said essentially the same thing when he came out. Neither of them acted like Elton or Boy George or Rosie or Melissa Etheridge and tried to play the role of "gay ambassador to help make straight people more understanding" and neither of them really offended anybody, they made the statement and it was done. And both Stipe and Knight are well-respected by straight and gay people alike, neither of them are considered obnoxious like Rosie or Elton. Melissa and Ellen on the other hand have been able to be themselves, open and yet not get overly obnoxious and publically make idiotic comments that came back to bite them.
