Michael Caine Hates Remakes

Michael Caine hates movie remakes because they "lack imagination." The British actor has seen many of the movies he originally appeared in be remade, including Get Carter and Alfie, and he believes new adaptations of old films are just lazy.

But Caine insists the 2007 remake of Sleuth can't be classed as such - because the Harold Pinter-penned screenplay has made it into a "brand new movie."

He says, "When they said they wanted to remake Sleuth, my first thought was, 'Why make it at all?' I do not like remakes. It shows a lack of imagination. But once I saw the script for Sleuth, I realized it wasn't a remake at all. It's a brand new movie."

I agree with Michael Caine 100%. Many remakes are just lazy...and that's not even counting old TV shows made into movies...

With remakes, they just screw up movies you liked, and give more attention to movies you hated.

I'm with Caine here. The occasional remake every now and then is just fine with me, but every other month it seems there is a remake of an older movie and 9 out of 10 times it's completely inferior

As you all likely know by now, I consider remakes to be pure vandalism, my love of old films from the silent era on is a passion, and I prefer my old films pure, in lovely B&W, with Mono sound! :lol: Remakes of old movies are like re-painting the Mona Lisa with crayons!

lol. I only like remakes when it tells a story the orginal left out. Like the remake of 'The Fog.' Nobody knew what made the fog pissed off until the remake told that story. Halloween: although I have yet to see it, I think it tells why Micheal goes postal.
But, like Caine said, some are just retarted and makes you wonder if they were high as a kite when they wrote it.

Yeah, doing Jaws: The Revenge probably wasn't the greatest career move. And that was during a time when it seemed as though Michael Caine was in every other movie that was being released.:D

I do agree with Mr. Caine. The slew of remakes - and in some cases of stuff that wasn't that great in the first place - is getting tired. The Honeymooners?? Only two men should ever play Ralph and Norton and they have passed on. There's no imagination left in Hollywood anymore. I wish people would stay away from the bad remakes on opening weekends so that maybe Hollywood would get the message that we're tired or them. However, if they continue to make money, then Hollywood will continue making them.

I'm looking forward to seeing Michael Caine as Alfred again in Batman: The Dark Knight next summer.

I just remembered that Michael Caine was in the Bewitched remake, playing Nicole Kidman's dad. He was actually one of the few bright spots!

If they ever remake The Godfather, IMO the greatest movie EVER - that may just push me over the edge!:mad: :crazy:

I don't think Godfather Part III is all that bad. Certainly not on the level of the first two, but not as bad as everyone seems to think it is.
