If this is indeed true, I like the movie already!

Christian is a great actor, but isn't he a little old for the part? John Conner should be, what, 25 now? Christian can't pass for 25 no matter how much makeup and lighting tricks they use

Awsome! I've heard of Christian Bale and I'm sure I've seen him in a few movies, but I can't replce his face so I don't have a dog in the race about him playing the part. I'm sure it will be sweet, tho!

Bale's probably best known for Batman Begins, you might also remember him in American Psycho, The Prestige, Velvet Goldmine and from when he was a kid in Empire Of The Sun

I've been falling in love with Christian Bale lately. He's a fantastic actor and soooo good looking. He reminds me of a young James Brolin.

I loved The Prestige. That was Hunk Paradise with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman.

I loved his work in THE MACHINIST. Great work. Not to mention the guy lost over 50 pounds to play the part!!! He was so damn skinny in that movie but he wanted to look the part of a man who hadn't slept in over a year. I beg you to see this movie if you haven't yet.

I was just thinking about that movie. I watched it a few times but keep on falling alseep! I cringe when he bends over the sink. You can see just about every bone in his back. Too bad that wasn't part wasn't wrote for a woman. Nicole Richie could have done it. lol!

I just got this from Netflix today, Irene, on your recommendation. I'm looking forward to watching it tonight, and I'll let you know. I'm surprised that I haven't seen it. It got some good reviews.

How come Eddie Furlong isn't reprising the role? Whatever happened to Eddie Furlong, anyway??

I hope you like it as much as I did. It is weird at times. I couldn't keep my eyes off of the movie. This was the first movie of Christian's that I had actually seen. I hope you enjoy it.

Wow! I absolutely loved it. Christian Bale is a fantastic actor. That was an extraordinary performance. We're going to be seeing him around for decades to come. I knew that bald guy in the movie had an alter ego thing going on. What a face on him. I'm surprised we're not seeing that nut in tons of movies, lol. Thanks for the recommendation.

No prob. Janice. Glad you liked it. That was indeed a fascinating movie. I happened to catch it one evening on cable and decided to check it out. Just reading the info abt a man not having had sleep in a year was all that caught my eye! I am glad I took the time to watch it. Bale is indeed a fantastic actor. ;) I need to see his performance as John Lennon's killer.

You know, I had read that somewhere too. I wonder if that is true? That is scary...and kinda crazy. Robert DeNiro, remember how he packed on the pounds for Raging Bull? :faint:

I said to my husband that it's too bad that Christian didn't have another movie to make after The Machinist....to utilize his weight loss, again. A movie about a drug addict or the Holocaust, something along those lines. Then again, he was probably anxious to get back to his gorgeous self, lol.

Oooh great idea. I read that Christian was the one who decided to get that skinny, the director was shocked that Christian was losing weight for the role. It wasn't required, but it did give creedence to the fact here was a guy who had not slept in a year and the effect it took on his body. Great performance. I would have loved to see him be awarded an Academy Award for that role.

In one of her first roles, Jennifer Jason Leigh (who is pretty slight to begin with) lost a substantial amount of weight to play an anorexic in the TV flick The Best Little Girl In the World. I read she did so under a doctor's care, but that is still pretty scary. What if something goes horribly wrong? Thank goodness she and other actors like Christian Bale regained the weight and seem healthy now.

I remember that movie. She played that role well. That is what I think when I hear or read abt an actor losing or gaining lots of weight for a role. Even if it is under doctor's care, it can be a scary thing, because everyone is different and no doctor can't be certain how someone's body may react to such a dramatic change to their weight.

A person can really screw up their metabolism doing that to their bodies. Jennifer Jason Leigh was on the heavy side in The Mechanic, which was probably filmed almost five years ago. Not fat, by any stretch, but I was surprised, as I hadn't seen her in a while. I've seen her since, and she's thinner, and looks great.

I read that for her role as the anorexic girl, JJL wasted down to 86 pounds. She's not a tall girl either - probably 5'3" at the most. A person can screw up not only metabolism, but also the kidneys, digestive system, you name it. It's admirable that they want to look as realistic as possible for a role, but you have to wonder sometimes if they're going too far.

So true. Which is why even being under doctor's care, no one can know what they are doing to themselves by losing or gaining an enormous amount of weight. What they do for one role, can injure themselves forever.
