Sanford & Son Season 7

Season 7 opens with Esther suing Fred on assault charges. Fred, Lamont, Bubba, and Donna were celebrating the degree that Fred got in the previous year, when an unconvinced Esther still calls Fred a heathen. Fred and Esther go at it again with each other until Fred socks Esther in the stomach. In court, Esther recounts the many incidents involving her and Fred. Fred defends himself, and Bubba defends Fred. Lamont is a hostile witness. Just as the judge is about to rule, F. and E. go at it again, resulting in the judge holding the two in contempt, and throwing out the case. The sparks continue on.

Fred, Grady, and Bubba are watching "The Dating Game" with Jim Lange as himself, and are shocked to see Rollo [bachelor #1] and Lamont [#3] on it. They compete with Rick Watson [#2] for a date with a pop-jazz singer and fashion model named Madeline Morgan [Barbara McNair-this is '77-'78]. Madeline asks #1 his honest opinion of #3. Rollo's response stuns and angers Lamont, who ends up telling Rollo off. #2, who had suffered camera fright, ends up laughing hysterically, breaking the tension. Then it comes time for Madeline to make her choice, she picks-RICK! Lamont and Rollo are stunned, as is Fred. L. and R. continue fighting as they head to Fred's house, but soon make up, to Fred's chagrin.

Rollo becomes a stand-up comic and is invited to appear on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson". However, Johnny does not appear [Joan Rivers-playing herself-fills in, the 1975-80 set is used]. Rollo tells what turns out to be unfunny jokes about Lamont, Fred, and his friends, the audience does not laugh, and Rollo is booted off the stage. Fred, watching with Bubba, says "serves dummy number two right". Ed McMahon and Robert Klein make cameos.
