LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC has handed out a full-season pickup to the new Christina Applegate comedy "Samantha Who?"

The order for nine additional episodes -- bringing the tally to 22 -- followed a solid third airing for "Samantha" on Monday night, when the comedy scored 14.2 million viewers, up 500,000 from the previous week.

With its strong start behind "Dancing With the Stars," "Samantha" solidified its position as the highest-rated new comedy this season and ABC's first breakout comedy hit in years.

"Samantha," in which Applegate plays a woman with amnesia, joins ABC's dramas "Private Practice" and "Pushing Daisies" in being picked up for the entire season.

Yes, obviously it is doing high because of Dancing, but it is still doing very well. It has not dropped really (a minor drop for episode 2) and it built to series highs in episode three. That is a great sign, no matter what the lead-in is. ABC has tried sitcoms after Dancing before, like Help Me Help You (with Ted Danson) and Crumbs (with Jane Curtin & Fred Savage) to name a few, and while they started off high (and wasn't as high as Samantha), they went down fast...Samantha hasn't done that at all, which I think it will do well even without Dancing as its lead-in.

Maybe it will do what American Idol did to House. House was about to get canceled for doing 6-7 million or so, but they tried it after American Idol in mid-season and it did well, and kept growing each episode...which is always a good sign. Nothing else has really worked after Idol (well except for 5th Grader).

Now if Samantha Who dropped a few million and kept doing so, like Big Shots is doing right now, then I'd be worried. Still early, but I think it will continue to grow and hopefully the few months when Dancing is not on, it can do 10 million or so.

Yeah. 10 million would be decent.

Watched it for the first time last night and it wasn't a STRIKE or anything, just a Foul ball.
